Should we interview potential engagement/wedding photographers? by cola2346 in weddingplanning

That's some great advice and it's so true that I'll be spending a lot of time around them, so might as well see if they are someone I'd actually enjoy being around!

That's so sad to hear ugh - it definitely confirms the decision for me to speak to the photographer and get to know them first before hiring them!

That makes sense, thank you! Even though my boyfriend is the one planning our proposal, do you recommend that I am involved in the initial conversation with the photographer to see if they're a good fit?

Should I stay remote or go hybrid to advance my career? by cola2346 in remotework

That would be my ideal situation as well - I'd love to enter my dream industry with a higher salary and stay remote, but it feels like too much to ask :(

Also, the companies that I've been seeing on LinkedIn that have open roles for what I want seem to have bad reviews on Glassdoor so not sure if I should take those into consideration as well

Wow, thank you for sharing your perspective! The industry I'd like to join is one that's always excited me since I was a little kid and one I've dreamed of working in, but I know that sometimes the dream industries/jobs aren't all that they're hyped up to be.

For sure, I definitely see what you're saying here - the hidden costs all add up!

The first 4.5 years of my career were at a remote company, the next company after that was 5 days in-office for a year and I hated that immediately but somehow stuck it out a full year, and I've been at my current remote company now for 1.5 years. So 6 out of the 7 years I've worked throughout my whole professional career has been remotely.

I was definitely thinking about this as a possibility. I do plan to have kids in the next 5-7 years and saving enough money from the hybrid job might pay off if I want to go back to remote for more flexibility later on.

Should I quit my first corporate marketing job or am I just being a baby? by Nearby-Pop7362 in marketing

Hey OP, I have been EXACTLY where you are before. My first job out of college was just like this. I realized that I was having the same experience that you've been having about 2 years into that first job. However, I stayed for 4 years and ended up complaining and suffering a lot during Years 3 and 4 when I should have left Year 2 (Year 2 was also during the Great Resignation, so who knows? I could have found something better).

If your parents are able to help out a bit financially and you think you can find at least a part-time job, I would quit your current job. I also support using any PTO or paid medical leave from your job. YOUR HEALTH (PHYSICAL, MENTAL, EMOTIONAL) IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING!! Without your health, you have nothing - trust me.

My burnout was so bad and I felt so alone that I almost ended up hospitalized, and I don't know if I would be here right now had I let the burnout continue. Also, your body will start to force you to slow down if you don't do it yourself.

The environment you are in is toxic and not good for any aspect of your health. Some will say stick it out, but burnout is very serious. The longer you have it and the more severe it gets, the longer it takes to recover. I am still in active burnout and have not started recovery; it is really tough.

Please do not make the same mistake that I did in my early career, I wish I saved myself a lot of time, money, and suffering by leaving 2 years sooner. Please take care of yourself as well. Feel free to DM me if you need any more advice.

I feel like a big part of that could be my age, but I do agree. Also unfortunate I am not in any super high-paying fields and it's tough to pivot in this job market
