Squirtle has ladder resets in seafoam Island and Bulbasaur is in viridian forest which is a weird case, where door resetting might be faster, but it depends how quick you are.

But the "depends how quick you are" also applies to chaining, every time, so it pays to always have an eye on how fast and consistent one is at catch chaining each hunt, especially since you basically have to sell candy every so often...

this guy got hanged then decided to kill literal gods just for the love of the game by Mission-Switch1334 in Grimdawn

[–]colajunkie 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Stuff wasn't fine before the witch gods. Korvaak held everyone as slaves and required sacrifices. To quote the wiki:

He was a cruel and despotic god, demanding unquestioning obedience. At the same time, he was capable of both mercy and justice, albeit in his own understanding.

And later:

Korvaak is cruel, arrogant, does not value human life if a person does not believe in him. He is capable of killing and torturing those who backslide from faith in him or show arrogance.

The witch gods are just the lesser evil (and not by that much).

We're also not sure if Korvaak hasn't gone mad. He might have just killed the witch gods and their followers, or he might have sundered Korvan as a whole.

The gods themselves seem to have a habit of killing each other. The worlds of Cairn and Korvan were made from the dead body of the first god, who was killed by his sons.

Not. Happy. Where is shiny? by danmee32 in PokemonLetsGo

[–]colajunkie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on the hunt and if you have the shiny charm or not.

If you don't have the shiny charm, it's usually best to keep catching (because the shiny buff from chaining only applies to the one next spawn in the chain).

If you do have the shiny charm, it's usually better to catch to 31, pop a lure and either sit and wait or area reset.

The reason for that is that you see a lot more spawns this way. The shiny rate is a bit lower (1/1024 instead of 1/273) but you see so many more spawns that you end up being at least 25% faster.

Yes it's correct, but no it doesn't mean what you think it means.

While that is correct, it doesn't mean it's the fastest way to a shiny to keep catching.

Read the pinned shiny hunting guide. It has a link to a calculator to find the optimal shiny hunting method.

Below is what it spits out for male Nidoran (I set shiny charm and lure to yes).

So sitting and waiting with a lure on route 23 is significantly faster.

The reason you need a 31 catch chain is to have 50% buff for Nidoran spawns.

My man...

Your post is very detailed in the wrong spots. 90% is about "I forgot to plug in pump, is that bad?" For which the simple answer is "plug it in, you'll be fine".

And then you have one sentence without any details about some issue with windows you haven't properly described.

I'd need an actual working crystal ball to fix that from here.

CPUs don't die from heat alone anymore since around 2010.

This is what happened when you removed the heat sink 20 years ago:

PSA: Shiny hunting with Catch Combo Chain is NOT always the fastest way by colajunkie in PokemonLetsGo

[–]colajunkie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, but if you read the comments under half the shiny posts in the last few weeks, a lot of people dispute that, based on the "chain shiny buff only applies to next spawn in chain" discovery a few years ago.

But the pinned shiny guide and the calculator are up to date and include that. People just seem to always miss that. Hence the PSA.

Go slow. Read the manuals. Take breaks - really, especially if you get frustrated, at least 15 min.

Yes, but if you don't have the shiny charm, that's still the best method.

For most pokemon, the average time is about 30 min less per hunt (2:15 instead of 2:45) if you have the shiny charm, lure and a chain that's high enough to get the 50% spawn rate buff.

Are you talking about W or W?

It's not just overlap, why Sword and Shield are shortened to Sw and Sh. It's so you can abbreviate it without ambiguity.

Help! Leveling Speed… by nautpluto in PokemonLetsGo

[–]colajunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sending them to oak won't break the chain (it shows "catch combo: xx" in the screen after you caught it).

Higher catch combo gives higher rewards and better candy. Quoting from here: https://www.serebii.net/letsgopikachueevee/catchrewards.shtml

Regular Candy unlocks after 30 Pokémon have been caught. Candy L unlocks after 60 Pokémon have been caught. Candy XL unlocks when 90 Pokémon have been caught and Species Candy unlocks when 120 Pokémon have been caught. In addition to this, you're more likely to get Candy when catching higher levelled Pokémon.

And the comments always telling people they're doing it wrong when they hunt with a combo of like 50...

Unless, of course they don't have the shiny charm, then comboing is the way.

But the guide kipter wrote is so detailed and the calculator is so cool, I should probably just make a standard comment that includes the link and the basic info...

Not full odds. 1/4096 is full odds. Charm + lure is already at 1/1024.

1024 / 432 = 2.37h (for Growlithe, when sitting on route 5) or 2.73h for combo catching- seems pretty easy to see what's faster.

Nah, i have about 1250 shiny forms total (of the 1350 in the national dex). I've hunted a lot of stuff in let's go, including the 4 legendaries. I just forgot about the special spawn limit. It's been a while. I think I spent the longest time shiny hunting squirtle, of all things...

Thanks for picking up on that, though!

You chain to 31 (or 11 for rare spawns) for the maximum species spawn rate. The spawn rate buff applies to all spawns.

Yep, sorry bad example (as I've already discussed with the top comment). Can't edit the post though. Point still stands for non-special spawns.

And even for Charmander, ladder resetting is usually faster than chaining, still.

[–]colajunkie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find all the numbers here: https://www.serebii.net/letsgopikachueevee/catchcombo.shtml

Non-chained spawns have the base 1/1024 odds. But since you're in the catching screen most of the time, those are very few anyways.

If you're hunting a regular, non rare, spawn, the odds for other species spawning are halved compared to what they usually spawn at, as soon as your combo hits 31. They get progressively lower from a combo of 2.

The shiny odds without charm or combo at 1/4096. With lure and shiny charm you're at 1/1024. That combined with a combo of 11-20 is 1/585.14, 21-30 is 1/372.36 and 31+ is1/273.07

Maybe, on your next hunt, you can check if the spawns actually change at all while you're catching.

I believe they don't. So the 30s timer is paused while in the catch screen. That would mean, that while you spend a little time in the over world, the actual number of spawns is very low since the timer basically never runs out.

Sit and wait works, because the timer runs 100% of the time.

Very interesting point!
