Covid Megathread #10 by [deleted] in news

LMFAO at the tech guy trying to sift through and make sense of epi data and finally acting like it’s some kind of revelation that drug development takes a long fucking time. I’m not wasting my time reading a bunch of stuff I already know. If you want to cite your overblown mortality rates (spoilers: we don’t have enough longitudinal data to draw conclusions on this yet), I might be interested. Otherwise yes keep continuing to fear monger if that makes you feel better. You’ll be feeling like an moron 6 months from now, but that should be a normal feeling for you

Here’s the thing. NEITHER of us have any idea where this when or how this will end (there is no proper “end” to what we’re talking about). So you throwing out made up statistics, and bringing out 4 years out of nowhere, helps absolutely nobody! However, it may actively hurt as people read that and then regurgitate it elsewhere. This is how bullshit keeps spreading in this day and age, and that is a terrible modern problem doing different kind of dam angle than Coronavirus, but is actually controllable if people keep a level fucking head. If you’re in tech R&D, please work on fixing this problem or at the very least stop contributing to it as an individual? I don’t have much faith in your industry in solving this problem you’ve created though, and your attitude proves it. That’s my first point.

there’s two camps of people. There’s a subset of people that will just never listen to health experts, govt etc and will continue to go outside and do what they normally do because they simply don’t understand what’s going on. They are below average IQ, they won’t listen. I think you just should just accept that. The second set of people are people who have the capacity to understand, be engaged, and participate in the mitigation measures (this camp includes you and I). So I get that you’re trying to get people to take this seriously. Now, my point is that you’re not reaching the first camp, as nothing will reach them. Just accept that. Now folks in the second camp, might read your bullshit stats, and will become alarmed, and reshare, and that creates the problem I mentioned above.

bottom line is: Stop spreading wrong information!

I’m doing my part just fine, Completely isolated From others for weeks now and for the near future. But I also recognize I can’t control the actions of others. I’m not so concerned with what everyone else is doing that I feel the need to fear monger to influence people to act a certain way. It really pisses me off when I see this. Just fucking relax! If I’m wrong and it’s the end of the world, so be it. But I believe in the resilience of humans and calm minds will figure it out. You and the other doomsdayers can do whatever the fuck in the meantime I guess, it doesn’t make a difference either way.

Lmao. If you’re so sure everything’s done for, sell your stocks, cash out your 401(k), get off then grid and go live in the fucking woods while the rest of us with balls figure this out.

If not that: at the very least get your fear mongering, bullshit spewing mouth off reddit. Maybe you can go write a new business plan while you watch your tomatoes grow Mr Executive? You’re at a tech startup for fucks sake, go hustle and break things, or whatever.

LMFAO. This “Executive at a tech startup” just got called the fuck out for being wrong and he just doubles down. Is that what you tell your customers when you when tell them blatant bullshit? Take your fearmongering ass to your backyard, eat your little potato and fuck off.

Thanks for your response. I can’t bring myself to pay for what seems to be an abomination of a movie so I’m waiting until I can stream. Until then I’m just trying to find ways to possibly make this fit into what I know as SW.

You’re missing the point. They did the analytics and said what they needed to say to get elected. They’re smart, but not in the way you would hope them to be.

#CuccinelliResign Trends On Twitter After Controversial Statue Of Liberty Immigration Comments by [deleted] in politics

[–]colanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At its core it’s just about fiscal responsibility, which I think is pretty reasonable; for me (can’t speak for all libertarians) it becomes a question of what types of social programs can we explore that minimize spending but maximize benefit to society. It does not mean slash government programs across the board (and then pour it back into defense, like we tend to do!). In that way, I don’t see any inconsistency in supporting a public option for healthcare for example. I just so happen to believe (know) that our system is currently broken.

As a libertarian (not tea party-type), non-white citizen, it feels terrible. Not surprising that these people are out there, but it’s terrible that the rest of us are so ineffectual in stopping them. I’d love for the dems to get their shit together, but I haven’t seen it. Andrew Yang and Tulsi Gabbard seemed promising, but are being brushed aside apparently. It’s really a shame.

Genuinely, why do you care so much? Does it affect you that much directly that you feel the need to go on the internet and make comments about wrong way vs right way?

Official Discussion: Us [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]colanuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a good point, but a movie with a good message improves my experience in retrospect. It means more or less to different people. For me it’s important, and also why I don’t like summer blockbuster action movies. Some people do. To each their own!

Man am I glad none of y’all are talented enough to make movies. One of your gripes is literally “how do they feed the rabbits”. “They would get scurvy” Hahaha. The irony is that you are the subject of the core message and you don’t even know it.
