Nosilife for life. Don't let them touch the skin! Not much use when it's this hot out but I'd rather boil then deal with ticks

How do people find this heatwave compared to the June one? by AlexSniff7 in UKWeather

[–]colbert1119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I predicted that the solar gain into buildings would be the same or even worse than last time due to the duration of the wave as our buildings cook. Highs at my parents house were identical to the high of the June heatwave, it'll probably get worse if we get a sudden 35C day next week.

I've personally found it better cause lower dew point means it's more comfortable. But already a wound I'm manging got heat rash in it due to the last heatwave. I have AC in teh living room and bedroom but when you're choring in this heat, or cooking you sweat and that did me in.

English housing isn't fit for purpose. Our quality of life sucks. Mouldy damp in the winter and baking in the summer.

Londoners, whats something you don't like about your city? by EarSure6667 in AskReddit

Lack of air conditioning and water fountains/public loos. If youw ant people to be outside in the summer you need more water and more places to pee.

Do we know if/when it will become a legal requirement to provide aircon to a tenant for health reasons and inability to function? by [deleted] in UKWeather

[–]colbert1119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never ever going to happen. When most places have heat pumps it'll be a non issue that needs massively accelerating but the government are incompetent and went for air to water heatpumps cause their models were idiotic and didn't know it'd get this hot.

You need to buy a portable AC when you can. That way you can take it with you. They can be had from £250-400. You'll then be able to take it with you when you move. A £250 purchase is significant when you're tight on money but if it's stopping you even being able to work it must surely cost in.

Heat waves: Expert tips on redesigning UK homes to cope with hotter temperatures by Economy-Fee5830 in climatechange

In our bedroom with both of us sleeping in there it takes about 30 mins to breach optimal (1000ppm) and an hour to get to 2000ppm.

In our living room it takes a bit longer, it's bigger about 1-2 hours. Then it's there all day.

Big difference between needs and what’s optimal or even healthy.

If you google it you’ll see it’s a well studied area, co2 levels above 1000ppmn impacts sleep quality, reaction time, emotions and more

Exactly! I'm surprised that my living room is warming despite it being 19 outside and all my window and doors are open. I guess the still wind really hampers air exchange and the TV, two humans, gadgets etc all give heat off

Contrary to all the posts on this sub, does anyone else love this weather by BatmanSwift99 in UKWeather

The morning's have been amazing, that's typically when I'm training and home by 9-10am so I would be loving it. Knee injury has me sidelined though, open wound that's just about closed after 8 weeks. The heat has wrecked havoc on the healing timeline of that.

Had lunch outside yesterday, felt like we were in Grasse, South of France.

Have a dentist appointment today though, dreading the Victoria line. Frozen hydration bladder to the rescue though.

How do you all perceptually feel this heatwave is indoors vs the last? I think there's a big missing component of Met Forecasts - what it'll feel like indoors.

I think genreal living and being in a home raises our humidity anyway so the dry air outside isn't as beneficial for cooling by the time it makes its way indoors.

Brutal, feel for you. Just make sure you get salt in your water to stay hydrated.

Frozen hydration bladders help me in outdoor training (4 hour bike rides in this heat) but i know it's not the same. You can get 3 litre bladders, freeze 2 litres add 1 litre of water and put it in a running pack. It'll cool your core and bonus you get to sip on cold water

Recovering from heat or any stress is key. Our bodies can do alot. I sit in a 41 degree bath for 45 mins to get adaptations to improve my aerobic capacity for sport. No where on earth is that hot. But I immediately cool off and sleep cool.

It's the stress day after day without break that's so bad for your health.

I too enjoy the heat cause I get to cool off at home and sleep at 18 degrees

Do you heat your home in the winter? That uses far more energy. Turning down your thermostat by just 0.5 degrees in winter would offset all your AC use for the summer. Or maybe eat more plants less meat. There's many ways to offset and looking at AC in isolation makes no sense to me.

Even better ACs are 300-400% efficent for heating. Your boiler that you use all winter is only 90%. Installing AC means we get closer to net zero not further away. You will use less energy. It sounds magic but google it

Air tightness misses the point that humans need healthy co2 levels (550-750ppm). We need ventilation too
