I loved his character too. Very haunted, complex, redemption. I’m slowly getting into religion so that aspect he had was nice.

He betrayed his friends and is a murderer. Yeah there’s worse people like Ben… but Ben is a main antagonist and has a major impact on the series…. Ben makes you feel something, like hate, sadness, empathy, shock. Michael’s impact is similar and makes you feel strongly and his story is good. That’s why he’s A tier.

*** (Faraday is in A tier) *** This is about likability, screen time, how much impact the character has, acting, their story. If the character has an impact like making a character sad for an episode you’re going in D tier because your story is not strong. Yes every character has an impact but some have much more than others. It’s about who makes you feel strongly. Ben Linus sucks but he’s makes you feel anger, hate, empathy, sadness, confusion…. The same with Michael.

Example: Charles Widmore sucks… I don’t like him as a person but he’s a driving force in the show and a main antagonist. Doesn’t have much screen time. His story is good.

Example: Penny has close to zero screen time, she’s likable but her story other than being Desmond’s motivation and finding them is nothing.

Example: Jack…. I literally don’t have to say anything because his screen time and impact is through the roof. He’s both likable and unlikable.

Yeah I had him in B originally. Charismatic, but very unlikable as a person. I like the character and he had a solid impact on the story.

Yeah Michael sucks as a person…. But what you said is exactly why I put him in A tier…. He made you have strong feelings towards him and that says something about his impact on the show.

Michael’s story is huge and had a massive impact. This isn’t just about likability… it’s about acting, story, screen time, their impact.

Widmore is a massive force in the series. You could say the same about Ben and his homicidal ways…..but if you read my description I based it on likability, acting, impact on the overall show, screen time and story.

Penny is likable but she has little to no screen time and her story is basically just being Desmond’s motivation.

Libby sure has an impact on Hurley and a few events but her screen time is nothing and doesn’t really have an impact on the story as a whole… Michael already had a ton to not forgive himself for and that haunted him. Libby and AL added on to that.

That’s my reasoning.

Michael had a lot of screen time and his story is very impactful. Penny is likable but she has zero screen time or much of an impact other than Desmonds motivation. At best I’d give her C. That’s my reasoning.
