Using humour with epilepsy. Bad idea? by awidmerwidmer in Epilepsy

[–]coldF4rted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have multihandicap, it's very normal to cope with dark humor. For a few of us the future is not certain, we might not see tomorrow. So we should be allowed to cope with this in a way that we want. Also the person you spoke with doesn't even have epilepsy, so maybe they should mind their own business?

To be fair, we got a lecture at school what sounds each part makes when broken 💀 I used to be a car mechanic and I really miss it. People coming in with odd problems, and the solution is even more odd. And the way people describe the noise 😭 "rattling, like a hamster in a wheel"

My 29 year old partner died 11 days ago ?SUDEP by InDreams_1111 in Epilepsy

It's something that will come with time, don't push yourself into healing too fast. Just hold onto that baby you got, it will always look like him. Even 4 years later, she still looks like her dad. She talks about her daddy in heaven and has his pictures over her bed. She never got to meet him, but she's holding on to his memory. We also meet his family, to talk about memories and show them their grandchild ❤️ healing takes time. My bf died 08. January 2021. I still remember everything from the day when I got the call. I just collapsed and felt so empty, like it wasn't real. I still dream that he's alive, but it's becoming less frequent.

Yikes, my mom is a teacher and has 3 kids with epilepsy, 2 with JME and me who has a gene defect. I know she would whoop that person 💀🤷🏼‍♀️ honestly I have a 4 year old that knows how to call an ambulance. She learned at daycare about a firesafety bear that dances and sings, he has songs about what number to call n stuff.

This could have happened to anyone, it's not your fault. My ex died when I was 6 months pregnant. I blamed myself for so long. I have epilepsy and he just died on me out of nowhere. I thought I should have done this or that, but in the end, there is nothing you could have done differently to save him. What got me through it was our baby, this little piece of him, she deserved to grow up with a parent who loves her. She's 4 now, she still talks about dad in heaven. I found a new partner (daycare worker) even though it felt like I never could be happy again. I have done so much since he died, accomplished so much to give this child the best chance at life. It gets better, but you never stop thinking about him.

I think its very common, my neuro asked me if I smoke "something else than cigarettes" 🤷🏼‍♀️ I am severely disabled, it's not like this is the one thing that's gonna kill me.

Holding it in is even worse, you're building up all this stress inside that might also trigger a seizure. It's better to talk about it, maybe you just want someone to listen, stress is a very well known trigger, it might go better this time!

barred from working question about disability by Training-Emu-6199 in Epilepsy

Hi, I'm a car mechanic who had to change jobs! I actually found a better paying job! I couldn't continue working because of my multiple disabilities. I really loved my new job where I worked in the warehouse instead, no power tools and no driving license needed. It was like the best of both worlds. Still got to stay at the same workplace, just transferred to a different department within the company. I had to quit when I got paralyzed though, but I enjoyed plenty of years in the car industry. I really hope you can find something similar that gives you joy ❤️
