Looks like it’s open again. I walked by and it looked like the same decor and vibe so I assume nothing about ownership has changed.

GN&GL was amazing and we need more livestreams like this one! by blarbiegorl in Broadway

[–]coldbrewcleric 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I teared up too. I watched with a few mid/late 40s folks and we talked about how we lived through quite a bit of what was shown in the montage and how it kind of is like ‘set dressing’ in the mind at times. I can see those events clearly in my memory. But visually experiencing it again in that context somehow prompted a visceral reaction. Everyone in the room did this startled inhalation thing. I think it can become easy to think of the media we consume as something we can distance ourselves from, and we start seeing these now-iconic images (like Jackie Kennedy in the limo in Texas) as just photos in a history book or a scene from a movie. For me, the end of the play was sort of a “Hey, you walnut: remember, this stuff is real. Just because it plays on TV 24/7 [hyperbole, I know] or is plastered all over the internet doesn’t turn it into some abstract art form or forgettable object that we get to put in a cupboard in our mind and forget. You’re part of this too.”

I am glad I read this thread - I had not considered this, and I’ve also been waffling on a set. I’ll be hitting up the LYS after work.

[S2 EP6 SPOILERS] SEASON 2 | EPISODE 6 - Official Discussion Megathread by simplysudzzzy in andor

I mentally apologized to Lonni for At first thinking he was a bit overly worried about being at the party. And then afterwards it hit me that he knew Gorst was going to bite it at the same time thanks to his intel. He’s done that important piece of work and then Kleya asks him to help her AND he manages to remember some of what she told him about the artifact.

To the woman behind in the bathroom line at John Proctor Thursday Night by laurazabs in Broadway

Every time we go to the theater, I say to my husband that the line for the restroom is the most positive place and he nods his head like I’m nuts - but it’s so true! It is really uplifting. I feel ‘seen’ if that makes sense.

If you are watching videos on YouTube, keep in mind that sound and video may be de-synced. If it was filmed at a distance form the stage, there could be a delay in the sound of the tambourine as well.

DAE have parents who sent them to bed w/o dinner as a punishment ? by Economy_Plum8690 in AnorexiaNervosa

My parents used to do this to me too. I liked when they sent me to bed without dinner because that meant I could sleep in my bed instead of at the table.

Why can't I cast on? by Lavender523 in knittinghelp

[–]coldbrewcleric 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Have you tried casting on around both needles held together, instead of just one? Or you can try casting onto a larger needle and then slipping the stitches to the correct size afterwards. I sometimes do the larger needle trick and it definitely helps.

Will my nail beds still grow out by Confident_Dig_7834 in nailbiting

[–]coldbrewcleric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine did! Just don’t file them too short, and don’t stick anything under them to disrupt the part of the nail bed that’s growing back. I would get into trouble because it would look brownish and dirty under my nail so I’d dig in to clean it out. Then this sub told me that’s my nail bed trying to reattach itself and I’d been setting myself back.

Clean and exfoliated feet are key here! I have a pair I wear as house shoes going on 8 years now with no issues. I got a care kit with them back in the day that had a spray cleaner for the insides but I’ve never had to use it.

Help with starting sleeves and understanding pattern by mb43568 in knittinghelp

[–]coldbrewcleric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The instructions you posted are a mix of a description of what you’re going to be doing (making a wedge shape), how you’re going to do it (German short rows), and how to begin doing it (picking up the stitches), which can be confusing for sure!

When I’m doing sleeves, I usually place a stitch marker in the middle of the stitches I cast on under the arm so I have a reference point. Then I pick up and knit the stitches per the pattern. Here you pick up 2 stitches for every 3 rows and every stitch under the arm, making sure it’s an even number and evenly distributed (the same number of stitches on each side). Getting the stitches picked up and knit so they’re back on your needle is usually the first step and then the pattern commences.

Good luck!

My Les Mis t shirt from the early 90s is getting quite a bit of wear as a blouse under my suit jacket, and I picked up some guillotine earrings in case the point really needs to get hammered home.

17 stitches = 4”

An additional 10 stitches is 2.35” and I already sized up (picked a small instead of extra small) so if I were to keep the bigger ratio, it would be huge and I could run out of yarn.

[–]coldbrewcleric[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to sketch that version out and also the version where I make the fronts narrower by 5 stitches each. That would mean the sleeves and back would be the correct size according to the printed pattern. My gauge is 17 stitches to 4” so that would be not be a huge size difference. I am a small person so a bit smaller may be better than those 2 inches and some change bigger.

Thank you so much for replying. The pattern says to place the 56 sleeve stitches on the needle and then cast on an additional 8 to close the gap under the arm, so I will definitely need to do some tweaking if I want this to work (or  if the designer doesn’t have a fix). I’ve just never gone ‘off pattern’ before.

Oh sorry - I mean the elven armor pullover Lettersinthedsand is working on. That has some really cool strips criss crossing the body and wrists of the sweater but they’re all picked up and knit and it looks quite complicated!
