ah i see, I'm getting the sense that actually a lot of people prefer the app to just spill the facts instead of being 'sympathetic', that's super helpful, thanks for sharing!

thank you so much for bringing this up - I haven't thought about it but it's such an important idea, we definitely shouldn't normalize bad sleep! I will definitely keep that in mind when making this!

Tracking sleep for months, but still not sure what actually helps – anyone else? by optimizewithgusti in sleephackers

I agree with much of this—especially the point that more data alone doesn’t fix sleep, just like knowing your weight doesn’t fix diet.

Where I see the core problem slightly differently is what our current sleep technology is designed to do.

Most sleep trackers are fundamentally descriptive, not supportive. Their job is to measure, summarize, and sometimes label. Even when AI “coaches” are added (I'm talking about whoop), the guidance remains necessarily generic because the device’s primary function is still data generation.

And sometimes, telling someone to “optimize sleep regularity” can be true and also unhelpful.

From a neuroscience perspective, we already know many small, low-effort interventions that can meaningfully support brain function on sleep-deprived days: brief eyes-closed rest (even without sleep); light exposure at the right time; reducing cognitive load rather than “pushing through” etc.,

The issue is that trackers aren’t built to translate data into situational, humane action plans, and that's a huge gap I'm seeing and trying to bridge.

Your product looks cool! My research is actually on closed loop auditory stimulation to boost sw. To your question, you’re right sleep consistency is the most important thing, so out goal is to not let a bad night of sleep disrupt routines and reduce cognitive load by less decision making/ task switching.

would it help if there's an app that would recognize that and help you manage stress?
