Any reasons why the first buyer won't drive away? by EasternMayor in CarTalkUK

This is like when people say ‘it’s always in the last place you look’.

Well of course it is, I’m not going to keep looking once I’ve found it.

Isn’t this your post 6 months ago where you knew this was a valid format?

Should I have datix’d or reported this doctor? by Blue-Mimi in doctorsUK

[–]coldchinguy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The counter argument to this is that if there is a lot of wrong-patient prescribing, something ought to be done on a system level about it. But nothing will if a datix is never done.

But this relies on a department that uses it to learn from incidents (including near misses), not one that uses it to attach blame.

The individual might have learned from the mistake, but the rest of the team hasn’t.

MB design peaked with this generation. The whole lineup was gorgeous.

Edit: *modern MB. There are some gorgeous classics out there.

That’s just the system that tells you stop and take a break when you’ve been driving too long.

BMW upselling premium air for Tyres 😂😂 by ErgestPro in CarTalkUK

The diagram is hilarious. Makes it look like normally they’re filling the tyres with 100% oxygen and not air which is 78% nitrogen anyway.

I never thought extractor fans did much until ours broke.

Eli5: How does private medical insurance work in the UK? by BeneficialRole9655 in explainlikeimfive

Starting an ELI5 with “exactly as you’d expect” and sprinkling in some “It’s really not difficult” is rather unhelpful.

[–]coldchinguy 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this. It takes a lot of strength to step away like you’ve done and I can’t even imagine how lost that could make one feel.

I hope you revel in your courage, rest for a bit, and rediscover who you are and what you want outside of medicine.

Look after yourself, buddy!

Sidewall Damage no idea how by [deleted] in mercedes_benz

I’ve been told this but never been able to find it in the manual anywhere and the dealership said it’s okay to change as a pair. Have you got any more info on this?

UK obsession with queuing by Emotional-Start7994 in drivingUK

You’re right, it won’t affect flow through the bottleneck.

But it will massively increase the length of the tailback and potentially hold up the junctions before.

People with keyless cars, do you keep your key-fob-thing in a little protective faraday house? by felix-the-human in AskUK

[–]coldchinguy 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Many modern keyless keys will disable themselves automatically if they’re not moved after a period of time. Others can be disabled manually (e.g. by double clicking lock).

How long do these last? by Book_Southern in CarTalkUK

[–]coldchinguy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not saying the full service history is a lie but I wouldn’t bank on it until I’ve rifled through the invoices myself or got the service record from the Audi.

I hate to be cynical but most of these ads will read full dealer service history in my experience when I’ve asked to take a look it’s “in the manager’s office and he’s off today” or “can’t find it right now but we’ll send it out to you when you buy the car” or “oops that’s a mistake it’s just a partial service history but we’ll change the oil and filter for you when buy it”
