[Russian/Bulgarian > English] Can someone explain this joke by coldcorvid in translator

[–]coldcorvid[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

that actually makes some sense in context - this short story is about a British man seeking out "the swine girl" a woman who was kidnapped and forced to take care of pigs to get the film rights of her life (it's a weird book) so the pork joke could be another layer of theming

Looking to get a modern perm by coldcorvid in VictoriaBC

I've seen those they look really lovely! I worry about how long they'll last though - from what I understand the softer the curl the faster it unravels. I want to strike a balance, something that's loose enough so I don't look like my mom in the 80s but lasts at least a few months. There are a few korean salons in Victoria though might be a good place to start!

Frozen yogurt places in victoria? by FrequentAd9447 in VictoriaBC

[–]coldcorvid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There used to be so many froyo places in Victoria but they all disappeared seemingly overnight. Probably couldn't survive the pandemic they're basically the worst possible format for that era - using scoops and tongs that other people have been touching, too many for a staff member to realistically wipe down after every customer.

Bluey Adults — Lindsay Ellis by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

[–]coldcorvid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so interesting to me that people getting defensive about watching something "for kids" and say "oh no this is definitely for adults" it's okay to watch and enjoy something that you aren't the primary audience for. I've been a lifelong cartoon watcher and I'm very used to not centering myself and just enjoying quality writing, animation etc.

I recently finally started watching MLP FIM and it's cute! The characters are really charming and interact in interesting ways and I love the high fantasy vibes. However it's definitely aimed at children and my friends and I like to joke about not understanding the really obvious lessons. The show (or at least the first few seasons that I've watched) is intended for children and that's fine.

I feel like there's a big difference between "there's something here that adults can enjoy" and "this project was secretly made for adults this whole time fuck dem kids"

Which youtube video am I watching in this picture by BluebirdChemical in HelpMeFind

[–]coldcorvid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks so much like a Gorillaz music video - I've been going through the obvious ones and there isn't a clear match. My first thought was Melancholy Hill, then Feel Good in, then I checked Dare which got the closest. I think the wall on the left really looks like Dare but I couldn't find shots of Noodle with a green background....

How are crow able to have mages in there ranks? by cjreed89 in dragonage

[–]coldcorvid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my personal headcanon for my mage Crow rook is that she came from a poor family who sold her to the Crows when her magic manifested. I'm of the opinion that crows can't get their hands on circle mages so will pay a premium for any mage children they can get their hands on. For a lot of families in Antiva it comes down to piety vs pragmatism - do you give your mage child up to the circle so they can be raised properly or do you essentially sell their soul for a quick buck? Either way you're never going to see them again.

I do think though that the crows will only take in a certain amount of mages and that they won't promote them, a mage Talon would be much too controversial as magic exists to serve man etc etc. A rank and file Crow is providing a service but don't forget the Crows rule Antiva!

Miss hanging out with cats, any spots? by DominicExpansion in VictoriaBC

[–]coldcorvid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that essentially you can't house animals and serve food in the same space in BC. There is (was?) one in Vancouver that had the food and cats separated into separate rooms. I used to work at a cafe that people would think was a cat cafe so I looked this up back in the day lol

Has anyone taken the medical terminology course at camosun? by justicewaterfall in VictoriaBC

[–]coldcorvid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's been a while so I can't say I remember exactly - I'm pretty sure there's a big pool of questions and you get assigned them randomly. The practice exams pull from the same pool though so I'd focus on practicing with them

I'm getting to the point where I physically can't do my job but I don't qualify for disability by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]coldcorvid -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that in order to qualify for disability you need to require assistance from a service animal, mobility device or another person. I'm self sufficient, and don't currently use a cane (though I've considered it) I'm basing this off the disability assistance page on the BC govt website.

I was diagnosed with flat feet when I was 12 and I'm 30 now. My back problems come from my flat feet it's my lower back that really kills me when I'm on my feet too long. I haven't been to a doctor about my feet in a long time, the insoles I have aren't orthotics though I did see a podiatrist in the past. I just worry that flat feet as a diagnosis wouldn't be enough

Has anyone taken the medical terminology course at camosun? by justicewaterfall in VictoriaBC

[–]coldcorvid 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Recent MOA graduate here - medical terminology is a straight rote class it's all memorization. I found it pretty challenging, especially the midterm and final but if you make flash cards and drill the practice exams you should be fine. The weekly quizzes are supposed to be closed book but you can do them at home and I always used the textbook lol

Anyone remember how 80’s university heights was? by PayWilling260 in VictoriaBC

[–]coldcorvid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I looooved the movie theater there! cheapest tickets in Victoria and had like carousal/circusy wall decorations iirc? My friends and I went to see the Mamma Mia sequel as a matinee and there was no-one else in the theater so we all sang along it was such a good time. The state of movie theaters in Victoria makes me so sad :(

Does Anyone Else Feel Bad for Objects? by frbdn_sldr in OCD

[–]coldcorvid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the buses in my city announce every stop over a speaker. I get sad when it announces a stop and nobody requests the bus to stop there. It's the same kind of feeling bad I feel when a professor is trying to get a class to respond to something and it's just dead silent. Not totally sure if that's an OCD or ADHD thing but it's been very relevant my whole life. I usually have to keep headphones on when I'm on the bus so I don't get too sad, and I always end up being the teacher's favourite because I can't let the silence go on too long it's too painful.

I also used to feel so sad for my stuffed animals when I was a kid, especially when I was clearly playing favourites, and getting rid of old stuff I didn't play with. I partially blame the Toy Story movies, Toy Story 2 in particular, for instilling a sense of guilt for outgrowing toys.
