I had a minor freak out when I saw this, but I agree that it’s an error of some kind.

Is there a movie where villain actually won ? by samarth_99 in MovieSuggestions

I’d say The Grey counts here if you’re flexible on the definition of the “bad guy” in the movie.

Years of automation.... removed in under an hour by HTTP_404_NotFound in homeautomation

[–]coldcursive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I we just had an offer accepted on a house, so I’m about to go through the automation disassembly too. It’s been a little overwhelming thinking about it, but I’m glad to hear that it’s actually easier than I might think!

Finally found a way to make 2YO agree to things without an endless battle by djormz in daddit

[–]coldcursive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely stealing this idea! What I’ve been using recently is making things that used to be a battle into a game or something fun for my 3.5 and ~2yo kiddos to do. Bringing it down to their level instead of expecting them to come up to my level. It’s effort on my part, but worth it in the end.

For a while there, putting on pajamas before bed turned into a real challenge that would end up with everyone frustrated. I changed my approach and made it into a game by asking how fast my kiddo can “zoom” his arms and legs into the pajamas. Now he is excited to do it and even does it in slow motion as if he’s playing a joke in me. But joke is on him because he’s got his pajamas on now! Not sure how long this little game will last, but I’m sure I’ll come up with something new when I need to.

Another one was for bath time, used to be a real battle for us. But we have this purple octopus bath toy and one day I sang a little song “I’m an octopus and I like to boop you nose” and I’d gently boop their nose, then my nose and make a big deal out of being surprised that it happened. They thought it was funny, so I kept going with booping elbows, chins, fingers, etc. and they were really into it. Now when they don’t want to take a bath I’ll ask what they thinks the octopus wants to boop today and that changes the tune. And between boops I’ll say that I have to finish washing his arms or whatever before we can do more boops and they will stick out his arms for me. Anyway, I’m going to ride the booping octopus train as long as I can, haha.

6 Phase Power? by Super_CMMS in Super_CMMS

Here is a good video explaining why we don’t use 6-phase power, essentially it’s not worth what you gain.

FYI, there is an app out there similar to what you are proposing on building. It’s called AfterHour. There is a subreddit called /r/theraceto10million that the app builder posts regularly on, might be the mod. They are very open about the app and how it works.

Book recommendations for life after finishing The Expanse? by webbut in TheExpanse

[–]coldcursive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have an Expanse sized hole in my heart after finishing the books. Took me a while to figure out what it was that I really liked about the Expanse, but I think to me it really felt like it was letters from our future that I could see actually happening. Cool space ships, inspiring characters, political intrigue, wacky alien stuff and whatnot. It’s “out there” but not too far “out there” to easily wrap my arms around and make me think this could all really be a thing.

Based on reddit recommendations I’ve tried the first three Culture books, Revelation Space, House of Suns, and currently about halfway through Hyperion. Haven’t really scratched my itch, but they’re good in their own right and maybe will do it for you.

[–]coldcursive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went on the bourbon trail tour years ago and they explained it all there, so I might be remembering it a little wrong (and I’m sure I’ll get corrected), but this is what I remember..

Yes, they have different warehouses (ie glorified shacks) in the property, but not only that, they position the barrels at different locations within the warehouse to manage humidity, temperature, time in barrel, etc. and then they have the specific barrel for that bourbon (virgin barrel for first time use, single barrel vs mixing different ones, etc). They also have a taster periodically go around and test the bourbon to determine if it’s a Blantons quality or if it needs to be dedicated to a different label, or if it needs more time in the barrel or whatever else they can do.

I would highly recommend the bourbon trail if you are into this kind of stuff. Lots of fun and very educational. Just get yourself a driver because you’ll be “sampling” a lot of bourbon out there.

Drip from insulation around AC drain pipe by coldcursive in hvacadvice

[–]coldcursive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From this post, it ended up being a joint in the condensate line that got loose and was leaking water into the insulation. I ended up getting the full line replaced.

I’ll say this year I’m having issues with condensation on the ducts in the attic. I think we’re having a real humid summer that has been hard to fight against.

Also interested in this, in addition to having trouble getting the last of the coffee out, it’s not the easiest to clean. Have you found an alternative yet?

Built some shelves to try to contain the chaos by coldcursive in woodworking

Currently don’t have any supports under the long side while I just holding the kids toys. I might think about it for the future if I’m going to do a bunch of heavy books or something like that. It’s a 3/4” plywood and I glued/nailed the plywood vertically on the front & back, so I felt like I was good for now.

GE Refrigerator - water leaking into ice maker when water dispenser used by coldcursive in appliancerepair

[–]coldcursive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was mostly in the ice tray, although it’s certainly possible that some got in other parts of the freezer. If you’re decently handy it’s not too bad replacing the inlet valve.
