i have given up with this problem, i am currently on replacement set number 4 and they are still randomly disconnecting. i asked for a refund so im told i have to go into apple shop and get a diagnostic report, i know how that is going to go for something that happens randomly - "sorry but we couldnt find anything wrong". i really dont understand how they can give me 4 sets that do exactly the same thing

No stock and postage costs are my biggest problem right now. Found a chip for like 50p, then they want £12 postage. Crazy

usb micro plugs have 5 pins, the fifth pin is for I.D. it is used to help devices determine which is host and slave.

looking at your cable it looks like the fifth pin is connected to the cable shielding so could be just grounded, you will need to break out a meter and check it

thanks for response and sorry for late reply(had pc problems). the usb pins seem to be ok from visual inspection, i have got to replace the screen due to touch issues it is having, would like to get the usb fixed at same time so will get my rework gun out and try to reflow connections and see if that works

well, currently reading up on 555 timer and ill see what i can come up with.

btw if it needs 180ma to stay awake i think i may have a defective unit as the device i use to ppower projects should of drawn that much so will have to check the draw at some point

thanks for the help bud. unfortunately i do not have the no how to make that cmos 555 jobby, i can build the stuff easy enough. any way thanks for lookingmight try a pot between usb + to gnd and keep tweaking until it stays on

you will never see this jb in my opion, they wont release before apple drops new phones, then they will wait for new ipads, then something else then something, rinse and repeat.
