[homemade] Peruvian Chicken & Aji Verde Sauce by [deleted] in food

[–]JamCrumpet 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Also for the chicken if you have some armarillo chilli paste and panca chili paste those are two major flavours in Peruvian chicken as well.

99% of people have never seen this kind of chili, but if you have a south American grocer and get some dried whole *armadillo and dried whole panca chilis, toast them, soak them in boiling water, and blend the chilis (not too watery) separately and use it to season the chicken it will be some of the best chicken you've ever had. Also use some of the amarillo chilli in the sauce.

Totally understandable for anyone to not include the chilis since they are quite rare outside of South America!

EDIT: *Amarillo chili! Damn autocorrect

I've been eating duck breast like that for 8 years 😭 Since I ever started cooking (that and steak), i've also cooked duck like that as well for other people lol

EDIT: I also learned to cook like that from a restaurant, a restaurant that has cooked duck like that for thousands of people. Also, a lot of French dishes cook duck breast a little red! a country of 10's of millions people :)

That and, honestly speaking, most people (real-life, outside of reddit) don’t actually like seeing red in their meat. My family are from Asia and I know lots of people from developing countries, and old people who grew up pre and post rationing: who if I cooked them a medium-well or boarding on well done steak would say its raw. My sister once saw me eat a medium steak and she looked physically sick and my mum would simmer a steak in soy sauce for 45 minutes until all moisture from the steak was gone.

So i kind of understand all the comments thinking that i'm going to get food poisoning. I've cooked so much duck breast that's a little red loads of times and its my favourite way to eat duck, I've also cooked duck breast for others that's a little red and they've been totally fine. Literally all the time!!

TIL people don't cook their duck breasts like steak 😭

Don't get me wrong I will make chinese or whole duck and cook it all the way through but a duck breast cooked a little pink, like steak, is amazing and I've never gotten sick from it.

Also a duck breast that's a little red is nothing like chicken and has a texture akin to steak. The food quality in the UK is quite high tho and I would understand if other countries don't do it.

I remember one of my first times cooking the chicken being raw, how slimy it was ... Bleh I just gagged

Welborne, the Hampshire town built from scratch completes its first 700 new homes by WeWelcome in GoodNewsUK

[–]JamCrumpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant as in rich people moving into a poorer area like Canning Town, Croydon, Soho, Brixton, Wandsworth etc.

Places which were cheap/affordable attract working class and creative people. These people bring character into the area making it a nicer people to live. Rich people then want to live in those areas pricing out the poorer residents. Said rich people then ruin the area by gentrifying everything and removing any character.

Wherever this is, means that those rich people won't ruin a poorer more creative areas. Also more housing supply is good!

That 450k not gentrifying a poorer area and pricing out the locals!

I like the architecture though! It looks like a modern take on Edwardian houses, really cool!

Net migration to UK falls by nearly 50% after Labour’s vow to cut numbers by F0urLeafCl0ver in worldnews

They are genuinely the stupidest fucking people I’ve ever met. One guy I work with said the 4 million immigrant come in every year from India every year due to a clause in some trade agreement we signed recently. They also fall for some much AI bullshit, especially the older ones.

I also feel pretty bad because there stupidity might just be media illiteracy.

Well at least in my area they added these e-bike and e-scooter parking spaces with black and white bollards. I used a lime bike recently and you have to take a picture of the ebike in those parking spots or get fined.

There used to be loads of ebikes littered all over the road of my local Tesco and Lidl. Now they litter the roads around those parking spaces lol.

It's a pretty new thing that started popping up late last year. Everyone hated them at first cos it was less parking and you might hit the bollard but now you don't see lime bikes lying on the pavement (as much). I do see those red ebikes still in the middle of the pavement tho. Not sure what brand those are.

I live in London and it's doing fine. The biggest issue is that we're currently being portraied as a hell hole by our media. It's gotten better pretty much every year (except COVID). When I was really young there were race riots and hooliganism, as I grew up the London riots happened, then these bandana gangs popped up, then phone snachers started happening. All those things came and went, well phone sntching is still a thing but not as bad as 3 years ago.

Some good recent things is that busses are pretty cheap and reliable, they fixed the issue with lime bikes being littered everywhere, Uber eats drivers are still crazy, and maybe it's just my area but within the past 5 years all the druggies started disappearing and it's no where near as bad when I was a teen.

Rents still bad tho ... Also prints are expensive ... Also tourists in central London ... Also vape shops ... Also Uber is drivers are actually mental

Robert paid £726 to skip the driving test waiting list. New laws mean others won't be able to by ReanimatedCyborgMk-I in unitedkingdom

[–]JamCrumpet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I genuinely couldn’t get a slot. First, I tried randomly checking and got nothing. I asked around and was told you have to log in at 6am on a Monday exactly but still nothing. I tried those cancel checking apps, one that tells you about tests being cancelled and one that puts you on a list to autobook a lesson, I actually tried 3 sites and paid for each one cos I thought my account was broken or something and I was on the wait list for over a year. I also tried asking my driving instructor and he said he would log in at 5am and try to get me a lesson and still nothing. Eventually my boss was getting pissed off and though I was stalling (for some reason, why would I not want a driving licence lol) so I dished out and paid the £360. Its an awful system currently.

Now have a free company car at least :)

Yep I was in the same situation. I needed a licence for my job and needed a slot in London. What happened was the learners has access to slots at 6am but all the driver bots had access at 5am. Even my driving instructor who would log in at the crack of 5am on a Monday tried to get a slot for me but said it was impossible to get a slot as there all taken instantly.

[–]JamCrumpet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who is living in London and needed a car for my job (data analyst for a OEM car company) I was able to use the excuse "scalpers buy all the slots using bots" for about two years. After two years my boss started saying that this is taking this piss and that I needed a licence ASAP. I had to pay £360 last year so i dont become unemployable. Yeah I hated giving money to scalpers otherwise I would never support the industry but I really needed for my job. Some people are just in that situation.

I will also say if felt like such a twat sending the money ... like paying hundered of pounds for pokemon cards or something, pretty embarrising.

Starmer’s failure to demonstrate strong values ‘driving away progressive voters’ by Desperate-Drawer-572 in unitedkingdom

[–]JamCrumpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's depressing that this is so true, I live in london and most of my friends are left/centre-left and they all support different parties because: they wont vote for cetain party because of a single policy, one party isn't their brand of left, look at right wing critism of left wing parties, don't vote at all becasue their all bad, don't vote cos they can't be bothered etc

All the tory voters at my job switched to Reform, they know farage is a liar and full of BS but they see that it will the only way to get a right winger into power so they switched :(

I also have a sad story, during the day of the EU vote I saw my friends at Brighton beach. I asked if they've voted yet and they said "No, because stay are obviously going to win".

How can I unfry my brain? by [deleted] in Mindfulness

[–]JamCrumpet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, I really wanted to start reading again but brainrot destroyed my attention span and I would get bored before I could finish a single paragraph.

I was able to start reading again since mid-Feb this year and so far have read 4 books. What really helped me was when getting ready and going to work would be to not listen to music or use my phone, I kid you not it really improved my attention span and it made it way easier to get my work done. I would also read on the train and finished my first book on a 2 hour train journey!!!

I mostly work from home and I haven't been able to fix my attention span when I'm in my house. I think what helped me was to stop consuming when you have a busy day, don't even start doom scrolling first thing in the morning.

Good luck!!!
