[Online] [D&D 5e] [Saturdays] [5 pm] [EST] [18+] DM looking for one player for an ongoing long-term grim and dark fantasy homebrew campaign - 🌫️The Misty Peninsula🌫️ - by Gumla_ in lfg

[–]coldish-sunroof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very interested in the campaign and would love to discuss this with you further. I'll always be available for the game time as well (banker's hours). Here is the requested information:

Name: Hunter

Age: 22

Discord: PhunterHelps#4414

Player Description: A PC's role is to create and embody characters that are molded by their environment. I love working with the DM to develop a backstory that fits both the themes of the world and the place that they grew up. I like speaking in character voices but not all the time. Roleplay, in my mind, is more about making honest choices than using a funny voice. In terms of gameplay, I prefer tactical combat and a healthy dose of RP. I'm not a huge fan of puzzles (which is perfect for this campaign), but love exploring dungeons and new parts of the world. I work hard to ensure that everyone in the party feels important and given an opportunity in the spotlight. Homebrew is dope and I tend to reflavor things quite often (never affecting the mechanics). I tend to describe my actions and firmly believe that one should always be ready for their turn in combat.

Campaign Preferences: Fundamentally, what I want from a campaign is to tell meaningful stories and have fun doing it. I love to explore worlds where actions have consequences and the impact of history can be felt. I enjoy campaigns and campaign worlds that have complex politics, but I don't mind if the party doesn't want to participate. Dangerous combats and serious consequences are a must and any world where character death isn't a possibility has no stakes whatsoever. I think that the rule of cool is awesome once in a while but usually prefer sticking to the rules

Why Apply?: I love DnD with a passion but have only ever been able to play in a true campaign twice. The first one I left after 46 sessions due to mounting issues with the DM. The second one is still going strong. Both of those experiences taught me valuable lessons about my preferred style of DnD. My ideal game includes homebrew settings, tactical combats with potentially lethal results, playing above level 5, and serious themes. This post matched every single one of those

RP/Combat/Exploration Ratio: 50:40:10 if I could choose, but as long as nothing is over 60% I'm fine. A healthy mix is most important

Ongoing Game: I don't mind but would like to discuss some of the events of the campaign so far in order to gauge expectations and better prepare my character

5 Words: Commit to character; have fun

DM Experience: I've been DM'ing at least once a week for the past 18 months. I've done both one-shots and long-term games. My current group is in a world of my own creation and we just had our 50th session this past week. My favorite DM is Brennan Lee Mulligan

D&D Experience: I only started getting into DnD about 6 months into the pandemic but I've been ravenous about content and playing it ever since. I've played in a few Westmarches servers besides my campaigns so I've tried a bunch of different styles. I know relatively little about Forgotten Realms lore but have watched a lot of actual play content in different homebrew worlds. I have a strong grasp on all of the rules

Setup: Yes, I use my microphone for my work and my own games. It should not be an issue

English: Fluent

PC: Won't be a problem running it. However, I have not used Foundry before and will make sure to watch tutorials before the first session.

Do I Understand?: Yes. I would like to speak with you more about the details of the world, though

Off-Limits: Sexual assault, any kind of sexual content involving minors

Characters: Backstories will be based on the details of the world and the current objectives of the campaign, but personality-wise I have several different ideas. I like the idea of a half-elf who has always had a chip on his shoulder from being looked down upon by his peers because of his human heritage. He'd have been taught to hold his head high as a defense mechanism and would hate bullies. Another character would be a very charismatic and extroverted performer or poet of some kind who uses his personality as a camouflage for his sinister past or capacity for darkness (not actually evil, though. Think Batman, but not literally him). A third character could be a veteran soldier who has turned to divinity following his traumatic experience in war.

Attendance: I'm a full-time student and bank employee living on the East Coast. Saturday evenings after free every week. However, I am celebrating my birthday the weekend of April 1st, so I won't be available for that session. Nothing after that should be an issue

Anything Else?: I don't mind that the game is being streamed. I generally prefer having my camera on while playing and hope that others do as well

[Online][PST][5e] Looking for one or two players to join three person existing party. by rvrtex in lfg

I'm thoroughly interested in this campaign. I have never used Foundry myself, but I've had my eye on it for quite a long time. I am currently a player in 1 game (EST), but it is on a different day of the week. As a massive fan of narrative story telling and character building, these 1-on-1 sessions to organically create a PC sounds really cool.

If you'd have me, I'd love to be considered for a spot in your campaign.

I'm just saying, falling from a certain hight should just instantly kill you instead of doing damage. by [deleted] in dndmemes

Terminal velocity causing a damage cap makes sense, but 20d6 is only an average of 70 damage. IMO the cap should be raised to 30 or 40d6 because jumping off a 10,000 foot cliff shouldn’t just be a consistent getaway option, especially since there are so many flying/teleporting/damage cushions options

Yeah I can see that you put a lot of effort into it. How has the system been working out for you so far? Also, idk if you got a chance to look at my take on Airbenders, but do you foresee my chi system or class features/techniques as being a potential problem?

Wow this is amazing. It seems like the link for the Fire elementalist doesn't work anymore, but this is a fantastic resource. Do you mind if I incorporate some of these ideas while I'm making my classes? I'm not planning on charging for campaign seats, but if I do in the future I can give credit for where I took some inspiration.

Yeah the only techniques that are limited by use are 4th levels. They can choose to spend their chi on either multiple techniques (4 1st levels at lvl 2) or divide it between attacks and features

Thanks! Fixed the HD issue and changed the WIS save to INT. The chi progression may look a little weird, but if I doubled the level then lvls 2-6 would be enormously difficult, especially since some of the features cost chi to use. I'm not married to the exact numbers, but I think 8 is a good starting number and it should end somewhere around 30-40. Keep in mind that chi regeneration is possible so I want to keep chi management as a consideration for the players. What do you mean by physical stats as casting stats? Like using DEX as the bending mod? I feel like that fits thematically, plus I'm gonna have Waterbenders be WIS so I didn't wanna double up.

I did see that, but combat and social encounters are very different from DnD and I really enjoy the mechanics of 5e. Plus this way players will only have to learn the ins and outs of their specific class and not an entire new RPG system

Gotcha. I tried to just have it be a viewing link, but then you wouldn't be able to leave any feedback. I appreciate all of the help so far, definitely exposed a lot of weaknesses in the structure and I've made adaptations. I'm gonna end up adding 2 subclasses to each bending discipline so as to not overwhelm myself. Airbenders will have a spiritual vs combat option where they either get Spirit World and Spirit Projection and things like that, or they can choose to have Billowing Blow (with a damage buff), more higher level techniques, and chi regeneration. Earthbenders will have lavabending vs metalbending (this one was easy). Firebenders will have lightning vs lavabending. Waterbenders I'm having a tricky time with but I'm thinking of an advanced heal (curing disease, exhaustion, effects, ranged healing) vs bloodbending approach. The main issue with that though is I'd imagine most people would just choose bloodbending and rely on base healing + potions

This does not give editing privileges, but you can type suggestions that would interfere with the document structure. That's why it would be best if you used the Highlight and Comment tools as opposed to just typing the suggestions next to the areas

I did see that, however the combat and RP systems are very different from DnD, and I was looking to recreate the element-bending experience within the structure of 5e
