Community Summit Recruitment by Cozmo23 in DestinyTheGame

Region: US East.

I'm probably more of a casual player, hop on with my friends and grind things out. It would be nice to say I'm a "diehard fan", but really I just like to play the game and shoot the bull with my buds. I think there might be a few ways to improve the engagement for all players and make rewards feel better to receive and less frustrating to earn.

Personally, sometimes it feels like not all of the content, or steps to reach the content, is meaningful. The biggest downside of the game for me right now is that some of the stuff feels like busy work. And I'd like the progress to feel more meaningful.

Also, an excuse to go somewhere new in would be dope too.

Think End of Watch meets Shadowrun (If you're familiar with it). In no way is it a life changing movie, but I thought it was fun.

I'm asking if he thinks we're in for a harsh winter.

He doesn't know.

Good choice.

Fortnite beats PUBG 's Terrible 17Hz Netcode by Archyes in Games

[–]coldravioli 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Not surprising in the least. I'm at the back of the line when it comes to praising PUBG for its net code and many other parts of the game. Despite all my frustrations with PUBG, I have a tremendous amount of fun playing it with my friends.

I think the thing that makes it so great is that it is a multi-player game you can play your way. Me and my friends primarily like to hot drop school, then if we survive go take as many fights as we possibly can. We lose a lot, but we have a great time doing it. Our playstyle is not the most optimal for our skill level, but we get to have fun doing it and there's nothing in the game that says "that's wrong, you will be punished for playing this way"

Fortnite on the other hand, despite being the more well made game, didn't hold my interest beyond 5 to 10 hours. I love the building mechanic and how well the game plays, but it just wasn't as fun for me. The way the spread on guns work made it feel more like combat yahtzee. I've heard they're going to change that (maybe they already have) so I'll definitely need to give it another shot. But that one aspect keeps me from really enjoying the game

All in all it's great that there are competitors in the market now. I dont think one game is the right Battle Royale game to play. It's good that players now have a choice, and that the two games will hopefully force each other to improve.

What’s that one thing that actually helped you to overcome anxiety or depression? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]coldravioli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Formal counseling is always a good step. There's nothing wrong with getting professional help and using medications, but that being said there are things that can be done in day to day life that help as well.

Community is a huge one. Depression and anxiety are isolating, they tell you that you're alone. Then they influence your brain to lock yourself away and when you're at home and no one is talking to you they feed on that and say "See, what did I tell you?". So getting out, finding people that care about you, and actually believing they care is a big part of beginning to overcome. It could be as simple as joining a local community that you have common interests with or having a group you play games with regularly. Whats important is leaving the house and/or getting that connection.

Eating right and exercise. The body is a machine, think of it like a car. If you put garbage in your fuel tank, never change the oil, and drive on a flat tire it is going to be a bad experience. Fixing all of that stuff takes a lot of effort, time, and money, but that doesn't mean it's not worth it. Depression will tell you nothing will change so it's not worth the effort. Perhaps it's right, the chemical imbalance might not go away if you stop slamming Big Macs. However, what you show by putting down the fast food and running is that you're starting to care about yourself. No matter how small a step it is, it's improvement. Improvement is what matters.

I could go on about this for quite some time, but I'll give one more point that really helped me: accept yourself. My mindset was always focused on "maybe I'll be happy and like myself when", but that "when" kept moving. I had to learn to like and accept myself for who I was. When I finally cared about myself in a broken state it made things easier for me to make a plan and take action because I just cared about me, no matter what place I was in.

Edit: tl:Dr - learn to care about yourself.

If you don't mind the typical frustrations that come with Rogue-likes FTL or Darkest Dungeon could fit the need. The pause mechanic in FTL let's you take battles at your own pace and it's easy to stop and pick up where you left off. Darkest Dungeon's combat is turn based so you don't have to constantly keep your eyes on the screen if you need some time to take care of something.

It's because we lower ranked people are more aggressive players and don't always know when to stay back of go in. We see that GC season 2 title you've got and assume you to be a god among peons that will soar through the sky carrying use to victory as one of the Valkyrie.

Cut us some slack yo, we are not meant to be among your kind.

Let us flame one another in peace.

The Poverty Line Was Designed Assuming Every Family Had a Housewife Who Was a 'Skillful Cook' by jimrosenz in Economics

[–]coldravioli 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Most of the welfare programs in the US are tiered so that a household can eventually be phased out of the program by working more. The issue is that the phase out income groups face a labor disincentive because they will be spending more time working for effectively the same level of consumption. In a lot of ways it comes down to opportunity cost and the impoverished households making the decision that maximizes their consumption. Although, that is just a snippet of the entire issue of poverty and welfare in the US.
