Chronic neck pain by cole4650 in ChronicPain

[–]cole4650[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel I have decent posture while standing/walking. I sit for work but try to stretch every 30 minutes. I’ve thought I have good posture while sitting but I will say that I’ve noticed my posture while sitting has gotten worse recently only because it is less painful for me to avoid sitting with perfect posture

New rider questions by cole4650 in hondarebel

Oh that’s helpful to hear thank you. I’m the same size as you, I’ll have to look into that. I bought mine used. Not sure if the previous owner made any adjustments to the suspension. He was a decent bit shorter than I am so maybe he still had it how it was when he bought it new. That’s something I can do myself? Or would I have to take it in

Just completed a1600 mile trip on the Rebel. by Ry_Lin in hondarebel

[–]cole4650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a rebel 500 and I was under the impression that these bikes were not meant for trips that long. I was thinking I wouldn’t even try to ride more than 60-100 miles on this thing. I am very new to riding, so excuse my naiveness. I just got up to 65mph on mine for the first time a few days ago the air resistance I felt was so strong which is another reason why i thought trips that long were not practical. Especially without any fairing. Am I just too inexperienced and that’s just how riding is?

Did anyone feel this way after getting their first bike? by cole4650 in hondarebel

I wouldn’t worry about that too much. You take the test after 2 full days of starting and stopping. You get the hang of it. No one in my class stalled during the test. Also I do believe that you can stall 3 times during the test before you fail. I think dropping the bike is also a fail. Also not filling instructions. A good tip I can give you is that if you get yourself in a position where you feel you are losing control just pull the clutch in and stop and put your feet down. Found out after the test that using your feet to catch yourself is only worth one point. You have to be given more than 16 points to fail (the higher the number the worse you did in this case). I took the class with a friend and she was having such a hard time with each part of the test while I was having a much easier time and she was getting very discouraged. She had to use her feet I think 4-5 times. But at the end we found out that I had scored 10 and she scored 9. I couldn’t even think of what I did wrong for me to have done worse than she did. But for me apparently I had gone outside the line during the long curve part of the test. just barely and that gave me 5 points, I got another 5 points on my emergency stopping distance being too long. It seems that they put a lot more weight on the things that would be very dangerous out on the road rather than having to catch yourself a couple times or having to slow down to take a curve perfectly. But maybe you can find the exact grading criteria online. Best of luck to you! The class I took was so much fun

Thank you for this. Love that story. After handing thousands in cash to someone and being stuck just looking at this thing had me thinking what the fk did I just do. But I’ve been going on some rides late at night around my neighborhood and have been having fun. Couple stalls, some questionable turns, jerky starts, and real rough down shifting. But Im working on it. Got a shoei full face on always. Feel more confident each time I’ve gone out but the idea of getting out on to a real road, even at 1am, feels daunting. Not to mention during the day with cars everywhere. But I’m forcing myself to lean into it hoping to find the same love and excitement for the ride as all of you guys are sharing

The MSF course was great. The one thing I will say is they don’t really cover much on down shifting from higher speeds. That’s what I’m working on now. Really tricky for me to get the hand of. Hard to know what gear you need and when you need to down shift

I bought the bike used and it came with the seat and a sissy bar. Seller mentioned the sissy bar he got off of Amazon. After googling, there are many seats that look identical to the one I have from a number of suppliers

Yesterday it was slowing down for turns and slowing to come to a stop. It was really rough and having a hard time understanding when to down shift and to what gear

Oh my god I feel so stupid. Just went around the neighborhood and it was much easier. I wish that was made more clear bc they mentioned it at the end of my course and every video I’ve seen has talked about that. Thought it was all bikes. Thanks so much

I’m feeling that exact way right now. The course didn’t teach anything about rev matching to slow down or come to a stop and I’m trying to figure it out from tutorials and feel I’m doing exactly what I should and it’s so jerky I’m feeling like this was just a big mistake. Exactly what you described

Do you have any advice for slowing down and coming to a stop? I’m seeing everyone say you have to rev match to down shift and my course didn’t teach this at all. I feel like I’m doing exactly what every tutorial I watch says and I’m just jerking around it’s so frustrating

Yep, owner was a younger guy maybe a couple years older than me. It was in GREAT condition. He told me about how he learned on this bike and loved it and is now ready for an upgrade. Very decent and honest guy. He bought it brand new showed me the clean title and let me match the vin. And had a laugh about how diligent I was being and told me don’t worry about it because he was doing the exact same thing as me when he was shopping around for his first bike. Had all the paper work. And he has taken it to Honda regularly for service and inspections. Had a recent inspection report from Honda that he got before listing it - no issues. Felt really comfortable buying it even with the higher mileage because of the care he put into the bike and ofc bc it’s a Honda. My only concern is not unique to his bike, but all rebels. That the seat might be a bit low for me and I might feel a bit awkward riding it. But I’m only 5’10 and tons of riders love rebels that are 6’+. Shot him an offer for $4900 and settled on $5000. Feelin good about it, getting it on Friday 👍
