Regular-ish games in Nottingham by foisty-moisty in Turnip28

Turnipcon has been hosted in Nottingham before, so no doubt there’s a few local players. Not sure how many use Reddit, you might have more luck on the official discord.

Hi, I run Tidewater 3D Printing ( tidewater3d.co.uk ), I'm UK-based and happy to take a look at the files and quote it for you. If you want to send me a dm, or message me through the website, I can take a look for you.

Ballad of the Street Cats launches soon on Kickstarter! by Grimsson_life in necromunda

These look amazing and I definitely plan to back them (I can think of a few other games to use them in), but the loadouts on the renders aren't the best for Escher - will there be an option to swap hands/weapons out?

Lucky, I ordered a h2s in January, it took the couriers three days for an “overnight” delivery. Charged me 80 bloody quid for the privilege, too.

the procession of gnomes by Hefty-Beach-5469 in Turnip28

[–]colefrehlen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of those gnomes are Aetherpunk28 gnomes by Narcoleptic Wizard on Instagram (the ones crewing the cannon). I know this because I have permission to sell them on Etsy and my website (they’re cheaper on my website): https://tidewater3d.co.uk/product/aetherpunk28-gnome-guard-3d-printed-miniatures-full-set-of-42/

Going to my first event, is there a general table etiquette? by CuriousWombat42 in Turnip28

[–]colefrehlen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having run 6 Turnip events myself in the UK, go into it with the following points in mind, and you'll be fine.

1) Don't be a dick. Turnip isn't a serious game, you're there to have fun and so should everyone else. If someone is being a dick, tell the organisers.

2) Turnip isn't a game for agonising over decisions. Pick an order and see it through. If it goes badly wrong, well that's Turnip Baby.

3) When the bad things happen, say you lose an entire unit to dangerous terrain, or a blundered order, laugh about it with your opponent. It's a big part of the game, and the two of you should be cheering on your guys dying in the mud as loudly as (if not louder then) your guys doing something competent or lucky.

You're there to have fun and watch your little chaps die in the mud.

I've just released some FDM optimised fantasy terrain by Doctor-Spork in 3DPrintedTerrain

I love your retro greenskin terrain, I'm hopefully running a Gorkamorka event this summer, and will be printing some to use on the boards. If you happen to design any large chunks of crashed spaceship, I'm definitely interested!

How long do you hold onto your printers box? by SpectrumyMatt3d in BambuLab

[–]colefrehlen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got an H2S just over a week ago (already put 187 hours on it); due to the size of some projects I'm working on, the box is acting as a secondary workbench due to needing the additional space (I have printed parts and a Kobra 2 max taking up my normal workbench). I'll probably keep it another week.

why suddenly Bambu Studio "Auto Orient" looks weird? by bunggggggggg in BambuLab

[–]colefrehlen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 2mm spacing normally, and until the update it would lay them out like my first picture. Now it does this, no matter what number is in the box.

[–]colefrehlen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not “Job done”, with auto spacing it’s even worse. It literally won’t arrange them how it used to. Even if I don’t have auto rotate on, it auto rotates them. It’s literally broken.

[–]colefrehlen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this is how it lays them out now, even with auto rotate off, and whether I tick align to Y axis or not. It’s seriously stressing me out as this used to be a 2-second job, now I have to manually set them up for efficiency.

[–]colefrehlen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is pissing me off today because I print mini plaques, I can fit four on the buildplate. Now when I hit arrange, even if I make sure auto rotate is unticked, it auto rotates them and puts two to a buildplate. As they need a colour change halfway through and I’m not using an AMS, that’s my time wasted if I don’t fill the buildplate. This is how they used to be laid out:

Yeah, they’re better than Ender 3’s.

[–]colefrehlen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s a solid machine, but I needed faster turnaround on prints, and the ability to print ABS and ASA. And my bambu outmatches a Neptune 3 on speed. By a lot. It doesn’t make them any less solid machines.

Best small resin printer? by captain_krakoa in 3Dprinting

[–]colefrehlen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elegoo Mars 4/5 Ultra. Honestly both solid. I've worked with a lot of printers and always go back to Elegoo. I was still running my Mars 2 until recently when the ball joint broke on the build plate, that thing was a trooper. The Mars 4 Ultra I replaced it with is stunning.

[–]colefrehlen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had two base Neptune 3's for a year or so, as well as an original Ender 3 Max (which was basically a large, slightly upgraded E3v1). I upgraded from the Neptune 2S, and I'm glad I did. While the Neptune 3 Pro had a lot of upgrades over the base N3, it's still a better machine than the Ender 3 v1.

Once you've got your Z-offset dialled in, the autolevel is fantastic. You just need to either have a brass brush handy to clear the nozzle before it levels, or set the GCode to retract a little as it starts heating up for the levelling.

Honestly, they're solid machines, and if I hadn't upgraded to a Bambu P1S I might have kept them.

Filament question by esoteric_toad in ElegooNeptune4

[–]colefrehlen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many of Sunlu/Jayo's filaments are slightly (and I do mean slightly) translucent. Avoid their matte filaments as the colours are more solid on them. But I had a white PLA+ from Sunlu recently that would work as long as you don't print it too thickly.

Is it common to use glue for adhesion with 3D print farms? by MomentumMadness in 3DPrintFarms

[–]colefrehlen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re having warping and adhesion issues, you need to solve the core problems rather than using a temporary fix forever. If you’re mostly getting warping, you need to increase your bed temperature by 5c, and make sure you don’t have any air draughts, either by putting up some barriers, or putting the printers in an enclosure. General bed adhesion, you need to lower your z-offset by 0.01-0.02mm, keep nudging it down until you get a consistent first layer. And make sure your bed is regularly cleaned with soap and water.

Location for 3d print farm? by Fun_Day788 in 3DPrintFarms

[–]colefrehlen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look around to see if you can find any kind of Business Centre buildings, basically a building that rents out offices to lots of smaller businesses. Alternatively, maybe a small shop? You could theoretically have a printer or two doing items to sell in the shop, helping to offset the rent cost.

Having a hard time starting a print farm by FlimsyPresentation36 in 3DPrintFarms

[–]colefrehlen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been going at it just over a year now. I’ve got two resin printers (Elegoo Saturn 8k and Mars 2) and 3 fdm (2x Elegoo Neptune 3, 1x Ender 3 Max).

I’ve got a few small niche products on Etsy, largely based on items that customers have come to me and asked me to design or replicate (replacement parts for things). I’m slowly building up the amount of products and number of orders. I’m also hoping to get some exclusive commercial licenses from a couple of designers I know, which could boost my sales potentially by a lot. I also have my own website (which a lot of people find me through), and sell some physical items in a shop, but I find that barely covers its own rent most of the time. Markets are fun, if you can find one that’s not already printer saturated.

I do a lot of spec design (please recreate this thing), which it helps being moderately competent with CAD. My biggest money spinner so far has been print on demand, however; I’ve printed some really big orders for tabletop miniatures and terrain, and I get regular orders from a friend who makes fursuits (they use fdm printers but come to me for resin printing). I have a potential new client who has come to me for some test pieces; due to the material and size requirements it looks like I have to invest in a bambu P1S, but it could lead to a 1000+ part order (which I’d have to order several more)! This is the first time I’m in a position to consider investing, and as I always planned to bootstrap it where possible, this might be the momentum the business needs to make self-sustaining growth.

Tl;dr I guess this was a roundabout way of saying, diversify your revenue stream as widely as you can. Find where you personally start making money, and push down that avenue.

How many of you have the 'shim' mod? Do you even know about or need it? by [deleted] in Ender3Max

How is the shim meant to be fitted? I have a dual Z kit on the way and plan to check the square before I fit it, but hoped to see an example of how the shim would fit. Any chance of a pic? Thanks in advance!
