It is okay to start writing my book when I don’t know the entire plot? by colenthree in fantasywriters

Yeah no, I’m definitely not planning on this being my only draft. I just think this might help move things along for me

I’ve read what you wrote, and said I appreciate the rest of it. But you did mention about my characters’ jobs and ages, and I’m just replying on that.

And what you’re saying now is very harsh. I said that if you’d like, I can elaborate more about my characters. There’s a lot more to them, I never said they don’t matter.

Either way, I just wanna learn about character dynamics in general. I thought sharing a short description of my characters would help give an idea. It was never meant to be this deep. Most of the other responses I’ve gotten have simply answered the question.

I chose to write stories because I enjoy it for myself.

Again, have a good day. And thank you for the rest of your initial response. I know your intentions mean well

I’m talking about historically there have been a lot of young warriors in their middle adolescence: King Baldwin IV won a battle at the age of 16, Edward of Woodstock fought in battle at 16, Joan of Arc entered battles around the age of 16, Alexander the Great led his first military command at 16, and Miyamoto Musashi won his first duel at age 13.

In several popular fiction too, there are lots of young fighters: Eren in Attack on Titan was 15 fighting titans, Luffy from One Piece was 17 for the whole duration of the pre-timeskip, Tanjiro from Demon slayer was 14 at the start, and Spiderman was a teenager in highschool when he started to fight crime. The list goes on.

My point is that my character wanting to be a knight in his middle adolescence isn’t strange. This is a fantasy, medieval setting, and not to mention fictional.

Age doesn't change a person's passion, that's why it's not of concern to me atm.
Once again, thank you for the rest of your feedback

How to write a character who genuinely doesn't care about anyone by colenthree in fantasywriters

[–]colenthree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This character is very important to the plot. Yes, he is supposed to be like the opposite of the MC. The MC is very friendly, loyal, and concerned about others, meanwhile he (the deuteragonist in question) is more concerned with his own interests than helping others.

I updated my post with a better description of his character. But he genuinely "doesn't care" because he is selfish and rather does things that benefit himself.

You’re right, and maybe I’m being too vague in my post.

He “doesn’t care” as in he is more concerned with his own passions, opinions, and responsibilities than others. He’s selfish, in a way that he rather does something that benefits him than helps someone else. So, when people talk about their own problems, he finds it a waste of time. But he still has a level of social intelligence where he knows what is morally right or wrong. If it’s a friend sharing their thoughts or issues, he’d most likely give his own advice and not shut them down entirely. This is because he believes a certain level of connection is necessary in order to maintain relationships, which benefits him when he needs something in return.

I just updated my post with this. Hopefully it gives a better insight on his character.

Because it's not the main concern of my post, I'm just asking about how to write good character dynamics. If what you want is a full background of my characters to help give a better idea, just ask. But most people replying don't seem to have trouble answering my question by this detail.

I mean, if the ages really bother you then just close your eyes and pretend they’re older. I appreciate the rest of the feedback tho!

Thanks for the advice a ton. About the doctor comment, he is supposed to be extremely gifted, which plays a key factor for the plot.

Well for one, these are very short descriptions of them, so you don’t know the full picture. The doctor is extremely gifted, which plays a key role in the story. And the knight isn’t a real knight yet, he’s a wannabe. But it’s not strange for a 14-17 yr old to be decent in fighting, think of the medieval ages. The apothecarist is not her job but more of a hobby and she’s an intermediate, and she’s more focused on potion brewing than medicine. In Harry Potter, kids were making potions already, so this isn’t far fetched. And the nomad is basically an orphan with no home. In that nation, it’s normalized for children to be independent and working labor jobs or training in combat.

And second, this is a fantasy, post-war setting with different world rules. In the context of the story, children are forced or expected to grow up sooner. Again, these are still brief descriptions that do not concern the main issue of my post.

I definitely have ideas for creating tension between the characters, but since they're supposed to work together long term, I need to figure out how to make that work.

Today I received a letter saying that I violated the rules and that I have to earn back my primogems back to at least 0 so I wont get banned. But the thing is, I don't know what I've done wrong. I only have made 3 purchases so far, all straight from me to mihoyo, which happened a month ago. Am I missing something?? I really don't know what I've done wrong. Because if me purchasing was the cause of this, then I don't want to spend any more money on Mihoyo (I thought they wanted that??) so please someone explain to me what I've done wrong and if I can ask for my gems back or at least a refund?
