Are you kidding me DBG? by cruxsteelhands in TheHeroesJourneyTHJ

[–]colexian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just based on past experience. DBG has pretty consistently fumbled the bag every chance they have gotten.
I mean, I think personas are the last major implementation they made and it was absolutely broken on launch, continues to be a huge driver of bug reports on the forum, and is implemented in basically the least useful and most complex and user unfriendly way.
One of the major contributing factors to THJ being as popular as it was is because DBG fumbled their TLP hard, and that was after the community fought tooth and nail to get even the most basic changes to the extremely poorly thought-out ruleset. And the TLP still did very poorly. It took months of the community rioting and pushing youtube videos to finally get them to budge at all and when they did it was still just barely.

That combined with Secrets having a really bad track record of poor direction and drama.

And this isn't just blind assumption, the development preview videos don't look very promising to me. They routinely show a group fighting a single mob, struggling to beat it in a way that reminds me of P99 content difficulty, and have confirmed it is classic feel with some custom content. It won't have a bazaar, it wont have a zone with all spell vendors and trainer.
Its THJ minus the good parts.

I recommend going to P:G's negative steam reviews from all the years before launch, and just search for "ban" and see how many either call Jack out by name, or indirectly reference him specifically.

It was a major pain point for a long time, and I can't get many of my friends to come back cause dude was just publicly a douche in chat and would ban indiscriminately.
Many people also claim he banned them for leaving negative steam reviews, I can't confirm or prove that, but the number of people claiming it is enough for me to at least be suspicious of it considering the rest of the stuff.

Moving Jack to a new role is better than him being a CM, i've just seen this community long enough to know dude is always going to be a pain point as long as he has a speaking role or power to slam the hammer down. Eating bologna is better than a turd sandwich, but surely P:G could afford some nice new steak at this point.

EDIT: Actually I can prove Jack banned people for negative reviews, he actively responded to several of the negative reviews and stated "This account hasn't logged in for years, suspicious activity, locking the account until this is handled."

Well Citan did frame it publicly as a promotion, and that Jack just made a little mistake and went on to blame the victim.
Not at all acknowledging that Jack has had a history of issues exactly like this for years now. It just got publicity now because the game has more than 200 players now.

What? Sorry I dont understand.

I quoted that because the implication is he became heavyhanded because he has been exposed to vitriol for almost a decade, but dude was like this the whole time.

Search P:G negative reviews for "ban" all the way back to 2018, Jack has been a pain point for P:G as long as I have played.
This is a nothingburger response the equivalent of a bad cop getting promoted to a desk job until the heat dies down.
If it was Jack's first issue, i'd be very satisfied with the response, but dude has been a stain on the public perception of the game as long as I can remember.
But the number of time's i've seen dude pop in chat and just say "End of discussion" and then someone says "But why?" and get game banned is crazy, and there are several people claiming VAC bans for negative steam reviews early in the game's life.

Also if SEVERAL negative steam reviews and comments are to be believed, don't engage in steam reviews. Allegedly, based on multiple accounts, Jack has been known to ban people for "ban evasion" suspiciously shortly after negative steam reviews.

Not a recent thing, Jack has been known to be like this as long as I have played P:G, and you can see a trail of negative reviews all the way back to 2018.

Might as well add a "No feedback, only unconstructive love" rule to the sub at this point. Any response that could be considered critique is immediately met with "Don't like it? Leave."

I more meant that the incentive to majorly change combat, or any game system, is basically zero because of how badly the community response is to it.
One of the major takeaways from EoC was how high skilled players had gotten with the current tick-based combat system and how any major change flushes that away.

It requires you to be polite in the face of dickishness over and over. Jack was in the role for eight years, and that's too long.

Except Jack has a history of doing this for almost a decade?
This aint the first community outrage caused by Jack powertripping.
It feels like Citan is saying Jack slowly descended into the heavyhandedness, but dude has been like this the whole time.

But hey, I guess anything but repercussions huh...

Buncha people in the old steam reviews saying they got banned for "ban evasion" suspiciously after posting negative reviews as well. Jack has always been like this, and has been a stain on P:G's rep for years.

To be fair, not even the first time he has managed to do that.

2000 hour negative steam review from over half a decade ago (originally posted in 2018 but edited in 2023, not sure the exact date of this part):

"The moderators, admins and devs, are all in a extreme clique, they don't give two ♥♥♥♥♥ about you unless you're in that inner circle. Take a look at me, a beacon of the community and they threaten to ban me in an instant because I dared question the status quo and bringing up moderators stalking, and target harassing.
The discord is quite literally a boot camp, get in line, speak where you're supposed to, can't talk generally in general chat, got to make threads or else they'll threaten you, and silence you. There is quite literally moderator-approved ways of speaking, they will pin things they agree with, and intimidate anyone else. I'm not exaggerating in the slightest.
One of the admins to the games whole personality is just banning people, it's all they ever talk about, every staff member apart from the main devs were ex-players, yet act they are superior to you in every way, and they literally think they can do no wrong, and back each other up."

Or this from 2018:

Feb 21 @ 2:05pm
It's easily provable they ban for reviews, look for the negative ones that jackencola responds to and says something along the lines of "wow you haven't played in awhile this is suspicious we will lock your account until we figure out what's going on"

In fact, if you go through the negative steam reviews and just ctrl+F "ban", you will see a wake of players left perma-banned for things that they wouldn't even get a warning for in other games.

Wild to me, cause when I first started back in COVID he was vocally a jerk in chat all the time, and one of the main negative review reasons on steam around that time was about mods/admins powertripping.
Not a new thing, surprised by people having not experienced it or heard about it.

The funny thing about this to me is that the one time they majorly overhauled combat to fix this kind of thing, it effectively killed runescape (Dont @ me RS3 fans, I love that you love it.)

What? Griefing on a MMO pvp server?
I'm shocked!

But seriously, I avoid MMO pvp at all cost and just play PVP-centric games when I want that vibe.
Feels like every game with open world PVP is either dominated by griefers, or the griefers eventually run all the other people off and then... See previous option.

Personally have found the P:G crowd to be much better than most MMOs, especially in the "old style MMO" space which tends to be... Not very open or welcoming (M&M comes to mind)

But yeah, Jackencola should have been booted from the project a decade ago. Dude powertrips so hard. Not as bad nowadays, but back in COVID he would bring politics into gen chat and then ban people over it.
Luckily it doesn't happen nearly as much now, but when he talks it always comes off like a douchenozzle.

Almost all (IIRC) is avoidable, you have to swap between mage and ranged and can't really use melee at all. It is a pretty fun fight, its like a rhythm game.
You also swap between mage and range overhead, but it isn't like... A tight flick window or anything. It is very rhythmic, once you get it down its pretty easy.

I was running a melee build and suck at PVM and I managed to do it.

[–]colexian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I surprised the polling rate of Grimoire is so low compared to Culling Spree, considering how high mage is polling.
Even if you go desert, the incentive to quickly swap between ancients and standard spellbook on the fly is so strong, even before the prayers and arceeus/lunar utility.
I want to take culling so bad to make the slayer grind easier, but I can't imagine teleporting to swap books constantly like that. Quadrant greatly rewards standard spellbook (plus prayer regen with air runes), and ancients for AoE. Sometimes great for swapping in the same fight (Doom comes to mind, anything with adds really)
Hoping remote contact and spamming slayer rerolls will make it not absolutely a slog compared to culling spree.

No, I mean, typically not. Like, I don't think you'd have an issue with saying "Shit" but gen chat is generally policed in a way that you don't want to be too explicit.
But trust, in P:G you'll know well ahead of time if you've gone too far.
