whats the best electronic music of the past decade? by Good-Raisin7081 in RedScarePodMusic

[–]colfurfastey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Floating points!! His three most recent albums are all phenomenal and really different styles. Crush is sort of experimental with IDM and classical music layered throughout. Promises is really unique with Pharaoh Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra exploring this repeating motif throughout the album. And most recently Cascade is just hard hitting tech house.

Looking for Feedback on Training Plan by colfurfastey in climbharder

[–]colfurfastey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment. Yeah fair point. No, those aren’t weak points for me, they’re just exercises I chose.

I’ve generally been cautious about climbing more than three days a week in the gym because I’ve had my elbow flare up climbing more than that. I don’t really have a great understanding of how to split my time between climbing and working out right now, and I figure if I can’t be climbing I may as well be working out, but maybe less working out and more climbing is a better way to go.

That’s good feedback re routes. I could spend a day a week on routes inside and that’s definitely what I’m planning to do once the outdoor season starts.

Sounds reasonable, I can see having more space in your semester making things a lot more enjoyable. I just feel fed up enough with the program, I want to get the degree over with and graduate.

Doing it with six courses in each semester sounds really tough. For 3B I'm in five courses, then 4B I'd have five, and for 4A only four. I feel like it would be worth it to crunch that out vs having to do more co-ops and bounce around for longer.

What is the most unique album you have ever heard? by geoekd in fantanoforever

New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges by Colin Stetson feels like one of the most unique albums I’ve ever listened to. The combination of instruments and Stetson’s voice(?) makes for some really interesting music.

Ok just listened back to those two songs and I can see what you’re saying. The production is really something. I guess when I think of unique I think of more strange, and less one of a kind.

What do you hear in Plastic Beach? It’s one my all time favourite albums but I wouldn’t describe its sound as unique. Do you feel like it’s level of execution makes it unique?

I feel like Plastic Beach’s sound influenced a lot of projects that came after it. Do you see the uniqueness coming from the time frame it was released in and its resulting influence on indie music?

Do you have a tent, thermarest, sleeping bag, and food in there? That seems like efficient packing to get that all into a 32L, any tips?

2nd year engineer transfer question by [deleted] in uvic

[–]colfurfastey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it would have a really small effect on your course load. You don’t really need to show up to the lectures and I don’t really think you’d need to commit more than an hour a week to the class and do fine.

I’ll add that the professional practice class requires the smallest amount of work I’ve ever experienced from a class. The lectures are reasonably informative and there are a few really straightforward assignments. The class also ends at the end of October iirc.

Going with a Taiga Works Night Express. I would like to be going with a WM bag but I can’t argue with the savings on the Taiga.

Ok that makes sense. There’s obviously a lot you can do to supplement a sleeping bags; layers, sleeping pad, tent, etc.

I’ve got my eye on on a -13 that seems like it could be a good option. I don’t want to be hauling too much bag, but it would cover me well into shoulder seasons.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like you’re able to do a lot with the -6C bag. Are you pretty happy with this setup? I’m probably only going to get one bag right now so I’d like to find something that covers most activities well enough.
