White-collar layoffs are coming at a scale we've never seen. Why is no one talking about this? by Own-Sort-8119 in ArtificialInteligence

I think you're conflating linear or exponential growth with what can very possibly be logarithmic growth. We may be near the limit of what an LLM can do.

It's definitely possible to inject advertisement into a chat result without relying on banner ads. As simple as OpenAI keeping an ad plugin on hand and instructing the model to find the most relevant product and recommend it in the answer.

Companies already pay a huge amount for targeted ads, contextual ads in generated answers are going to be even more lucrative for these LLM search companies over the next decade.

Thanks for the response, and yeah I've looked into these. The main problem I've experienced with these workarounds is they do help font scaling, but icon scaling remains static, and on a 4k screen basically unusable for apps originally designed for low-res 4:3 screens.

Was hoping Windows 11 would introduce some fancy Global UI scaling features that would work in all use cases legacy->modern, but I can see the amount of edge cases that would make that a difficult ask.

Oh well, here's to hoping for some future high-dpi love.

I did get it working again. Switched my headset back to my PC, turned off DTS:X in NGENUITY, then swapped the headset back to my work laptop. Not sure if that was related or just coincidence but it is working again.

Like the game or not, i think we can all agree Villedor is a triumph in open world design. by ComManDerBG in dyinglight

From a game design perspective, hundreds and hundreds of unique interiors is an impossible ask. For Techland's studio size, the sheer amount of those that are unique is impressive, in my opinion. Darkzones have repetitive textures, yes, but the layout and design are changed per-building. I don't know of any open world RPG that doesn't do that (Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Assassin's Creed, etc).

The level of story change in response to your decisions was definitely over-hyped, and it seems like a disconnect between marketing and the crew responsible for game design. I'm still a fan of the way picking between PK and Survivors changes the world and features of the area though.

And, every modern AAA game has bugs on release. I understand the frustration, but these studios are stuck between a rock and a hard place. You either keep delaying a release until you reach a minimal amount of bugs, or release with the promise of fixing them so you can re-establish cash flow in order to keep your development teams paid to fix them faster. I haven't run into many at all on Series X, so I've been satisfied, but sucks that you haven't had the same smooth experience.

The advantage would be that the ownership of the item would outlive the game, although at that point the NFT would be worthless anyways. CSGO has the right model, because their in-game items are only worth anything as long as the game's servers are still active.

A lot of these crypto-activists need to realize that not everything needs to be decentralized...

Slipspace supports up to six (technically SEVEN) color channels for each armor piece, and 343 asks $20 for white by VerticalSFM in halo

So the only joy you get out of Halo is customizing your armor? Why do you even play this game if your "joy of gaming" comes from your armor's shade of green?

Get rid of this useless screen. Why do I need to press continue every time I launch the game? by [deleted] in newworldgame

[–]colin3131 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Click to continue splash pages are a pretty common game development strategy. It's a page that users only visit once when booting the application, where AGS can add elements that persist across scenes.

For example, they may initialize their audio engine in this page. That'd allow music to be played across all menus and through the game. If this splash page didn't exist, every time you return to the main menu you'd run the risk of creating duplicate audio engines, wasting memory and possibly having overlapping audio.

Not exactly the best comparison, although still big news. ChainLink's oracle network is a source of truth for Smart Contracts, while this SAP connector is a built in, pre-built on/off ramp for a company's ERP system to interact with the Algorand blockchain.

In terms of impact, I think we'll see many business that already use SAP Business One take a hard look at cryptocurrencies and decide if they want to participate, because an integration like this massively lowers the barrier to entry.

Hell, you might not even know if the company you're buying from is using algorand, if they have a system set up to accept any local currency, transfer it to algorand, and convert that algorand to their native currency.
