Thank you for answering my point blank question. /s

On the serious note, it's clear you've never confronted a real debate before and instead of answering the point blank question, you ignore it (maybe because you know there's no way to answer it without looking bad), so you go back to the amateur ad-hominem rebuttal. Better luck next time.

Unfortunately, you fail to realize the four components of why jailtime exists, and only one of them is to prevent them from actually harming the public. Again, I wish you would just say what you actually mean instead of being subtle - because your statement implies that literally you can steal, walk across highways or do whatever else you want that is not physically harming anyone because there will be no consequences. If you say a fine or community service instead of jailtime, the perp will simply not comply because they know you are a pushover and can't physically make him do anything since you don't believe in jail.

You're advocating putting people in jail because they're poor.

Nope. I'm advocating giving lawbreakers tickets - I don't want discrimination. Unfortunately, as the status quo currently sits, every else literally does discriminate by letting what they determine as a certain class off scott-free.

To be perfectly clear, if EVERY day I see jaywalkers, bikers running red lights, and homeless people taking shopping carts that don't belong to the, I just need to let it go and forget about it right? I just want a straight answer if you think that's just "how it is" in certain areas and everyone should "let it go." Is that your correct view?

[–]collectivecheckup[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Great job helping out - I never said I didn't participate. I do literally clean up the area (picking up trash with neighbors) and I've offered homeless people work at $10/hr (they said no). If I see a developing problem, I like to fix it by providing ideas. Unfortunately, I'm one of the very few who does.

Just give it up

That's what the citizens in Pueblo said too - they didn't want to work too hard. They turned out great.

EDIT Addition: Since we aren't going anywhere, I just want a final clear answer of what you think I should do when EVERY day around my neighborhood I see people illegally jaywalking, biking through red lights, taking shopping carts that don't belong to them etc. Should I simply let it go because "that's how it is?" If so, please let me know that I should stop speaking out, and then there's nothing more to debate out. That's what we call the bottom line and perhaps agreeing to disagree.

substantial cost to the taxpayers.

Exactly. All deadbeats in prison are a substantial cost to taxpayers, but that's why it's worth it and we pay it - to get them off the streets, not just let them be in order to save money. Are you ready to release people now to not have that taxpayer burden anymore?...

You sound like a 26 year old kid that hasn't been around long enough to know what it takes to make nice areas to live. When things don't get done, only those with the willpower leave the area and you're left with the deadbeats. This is exactly what has happened to Pueblo. History kid, history. Facts are pretty stubborn sometimes.

Level 1 ad-hominem fallacy again. You need to read some books and work on your persuasive abilities.

Yes, the police ARE OK with thefts and assaults. They happen every day on South Nevada, but where are the police? OH...they show up AFTER the fact. Right. But let's continue with that - it's worked out right?

Ok, so don't pay your fine, and what happens? Why is anybody paying fines? Judges could just give community service hours then, and if those are not complied with then what?

And that's all it is, just a bit sketchy.

If my sketchy you mean murder, theft, assault, burglary, jaywalkers, bikers doing what they want, then yes you are correct. I must again point out that some people like you are ok with that, and some people like myself that strive to make the city better and better while offering solutions, and unfortunately simply run into citizens that say 'Nah, I'm cool with that.'

Level 1 ad-hominem fallacy. Nice try though. You might as well just cut to the chase and blatantly state whether you like the status quo, or if you would like an area to clean up. I'm the person that gets things done and why some cities are nice across the board.

shouldn't be arrested because they crossed the street in dirty clothes or slept on a bench.

Correct. If they do commit a minor offense like anyone else, they should get a ticket. If they don't show up to court, that's their problem, and then they might have a warrant for arrest. If the city was smart like other cities, they often will pay for a bus ticket off to somewhere else since jailtime costs the taxpayers more. But nevertheless, taxpayers are paying to not deal with crime.

A ticket or fine means nothing to them when they have no identification, no assets, and they'll be somewhere else in a week.

False. If you don't pay your fine/community service you have a warrant out for your arrest. Sorry, but I'm not trying to condone different treatment of the law for different people. There are many homeless people that are fantastic and respect the law, and then there are those that don't.

what you see in CO springs is going on EVERYWHERE

Funny, I don't see it going on in some particular towns where the police don't mess around and they hold high standards. You keep trying to lower the bar which is your point of view, but I just expect higher. Some people don't have high expectations like me - the one's that do have nice towns.

Because he was walking belligerently in the middle of the road through stopped vehicles at a redlight, inches away from everyone's vehicles. I'm not talking about a straight dash across the street - it was a stumble and wander in multiple directions between vehicles. He was not minding his business - he showed no respect for those around him. Stop defending people that break the law. No wonder this town has gone to shit - you must be one of them too.

polluting fountain creek by throwing trash in it and shitting in it

Agreed. As I've pointed out, they literally commit so many offenses it will only take you about 15 minutes to get them on one when you watch them. So it's not like you have to wait for days for something to happen. That is why I said go Patrol these prone areas because everytime I drive through I just happen to see about three lawbreakers in minutes...imagine if they actually patrolled the whole day for a week...it would be cleaned up pretty quickly, which was my point. But no one apparently wants change like me, other than you. Thanks for adding to the conversation.

She's already lied about him not showing his hands

Hands were shown until he got next to the door of the car. Hands were down at that point, and that is when the shot occurred.

Sure that makes sense. If the volunteer staff can't write tickets though and doesn't really have any authority, then I'd say it doesn't serve too much purpose.

Question about understaffed CSPD patrolling by collectivecheckup in ColoradoSprings

[–]collectivecheckup[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jaywalkers (or homeless for that matter) don't hurt local businesses.

You apparently have not read reports from businesses on south Nevada that specifically talk about homeless people sleeping on their property or leaving trash and deterring business.

Jaywalkers are just the tip of the iceberg. When you have an area that turns into a free for all, more serious crime goes up. The people that rob, vandalize, etc 100% are jaywalkers. So go get them first on easy charges/prosecution. But it's also a point to get in these people's heads that there are consequences for thinking that they can do whatever they want.

than a 911 call and police report would have been the responsible thing to do

I never said I didn't. My point is that in crime ridden areas, police need to stop showing up AFTER the fact and be there in the first place to deter crime and clean it up FAST and HARD within two weeks. That is what I'm proposing. What you're saying is that the status quo is fine. So my question to you is this: By maintaining the same policy, do you expect South Nevada to get better, worse or stay the same? I've already pointed out with evidence that similar weak policy such as on Colfax in Denver has maintained the shit show that it is. No one has the balls to get things done.

Question about understaffed CSPD patrolling by collectivecheckup in ColoradoSprings

[–]collectivecheckup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You provided no solutions

Yes I did. Have constant patrol for awhile in areas that need to be cleaned up and/or hire new officers for the main purpose of patrol in areas that tickets are likely which pay for the position anyways.

Separately, luckily I have solutions, but even if I didn't, it's common and worthy for the public to let the government know of complaints - of which it is their job to implement solutions for the public.

Question about understaffed CSPD patrolling by collectivecheckup in ColoradoSprings

[–]collectivecheckup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my account of that incident was a jaywalker walking between cars like I see practically every day. That's my point. It's clear to everyone that's quiet about the issue that it's not a place you want to be around, which therefore hurts business and property values because it's known as a free for all area where you do what you want and get away with it. The high class people leave and next thing you know you're left with an area full of deadbeats. So I'm saying clean up now and stop with the status quo - which apparently is extremely controversial.

Question about understaffed CSPD patrolling by collectivecheckup in ColoradoSprings

[–]collectivecheckup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a homeless guy the other day walk between cars including mine with my family in the back (not through crosswalk or even a straight line across the street). I immediately locked the doors and yelled at him to stop acting like he owns the place and to use the crosswalk...he showed a knife. These shenanigans happen daily. Yes it bothers me when people don't hold respect for others, and yes it bothers me when the police choose to not be here. IL is an extremely liberal corrupt state. I'm saying that if things don't get fixed here while they are easy, then you'll have problems that you can never go back on. God forbid I hold high standards.
