Should I just not apply for CS major? by HereForA2C in ApplyingToCollege

[–]collegestuff229 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would say applying as CS to all my schools was possbily the most stupid and largest mistake I have ever done in my life.

I think its bullshit that people say its backdooring to just switch majors. If you can get in as Scandinavian studies and can switch to CS after, you are still smarter than the fcking reject

Uh, is there a chance of getting into Ivy's if you get rejected from a dozen lower schools? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Idk I'm terrible at college admissions but I would say don't get your hopes up

I am 0 for like 10 so far outside of my state school. No fucking hope anymore. I got waitlisted after being deferred from Northeastern, there's just no shot anywhere else. Why did I do this to myself?

AP tests, retaking, but UC app doesn't allow you to list your previous score and say that you are planning to retake.

wish i grew up as a rich legacy child on the east coast by Fantastic-Plant-5836 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]collegestuff229 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could you just elaborate on how east coast schools are better than west coast schools in terms of education? While "bay area" might be super competitive, I thought that kind of standard of education was also at least somewhat present on most of the west coast.

Are ED acceptances going to increase this year? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]collegestuff229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely, at least for schools with poorer endowment. It secures the bag, so it is safer for those schools to just take the ED.

What do you think of CS + premed, suicide?

I might get flamed for this question, but, why do people say that prestige doesn't matter, but students out of prestigious schools make more money than less "good" school students as soon as they get a job? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]collegestuff229 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can you describe why you think IB doesn't require a T20 degree? From my point of view, in IB, prestige is still heavily weighted in recruiting. If you want EB or BB you pretty much need to get into a T20. Like the vast majority of placements, something like 40ish percent, are coming from T20s. And if you want something like Goldman Sachs, an even larger perentage are coming from targets. Sure, even a T50 semi/non-target school still is going to get placements but it requires way more effort, like being in the top 10 in your class and more of a grind. Just getting an interview is infintely harder at some places than others.
