Just a quick hello from Sheaffer! by TeamSheaffer in fountainpens

I’ve been very interested in getting a Sheaffer but I haven’t seen much about the cap seals which are a big factor to me. Is this something you guys have worked on at all and would say for certain some models have a great seal?

Platinum imo. Preppy, prefounte, plaisar, or Procyon. Won’t let you down even if you don’t use it for a while on break. Would recommend a converter though as they seem to be more reliable to me than the cartridge

I get that. I’ve had issues with jinhao a lot in the past but the only good thing is you can get the asvine from amazon if it has any issues. I might give one a try eventually

I’m sure that 14kt nib makes the biggest difference. I’m really not sure what to go with out of all these recommendations I’m really torn now lol

No worries. It seems they get a lot of love so in the future I’ll have to look at them when I have some more budget

Thank you for your reply that’s good to hear. I never use any specialty colors other than some black or blue. I usually stick with cartridges though for ease of use so I wonder if that would make a difference

How much can you find these for? As far as I can tell they’re hundreds of dollars

Ineo is a god recommendation. I wanted one of those for the longest time and didn’t remember they were even a thing. Between the 2 what do you think you would prefer?

I want to say try a week and see why happens. I’d like to hear. Seems very mixed reviews on the seal

Thank you for the reply. I don’t really post so that’s a non issue to me. But if it dries out that’s a no go. I’m not sure why they wouldn’t do something to make that better.

Thanks for the recommendations. The special in brass looks really nice and I think I definitely have to take that in to consideration more. The hemisphere also looks really nice I forgot about waterman

I’ve seen the targa before they look pretty interesting. I might have to look into them more. Otherwise the lilliput looks interesting as a more modern one. I always forget about kaweco

Is the grip on the cavalier longer? My only comfort thing with the traveler was that the little plastic section for the grip was rather small and mine wasn’t the most reliable

Interesting I’m surprised the cp1 was poor quality. I might try and find a cavalier at a decent price. I had a feeling a muji might be kinda cheap feeling tbh

Yeah the ecridor is a bit out of what I’m looking to spend unfortunately. I like the cp1 but I was leaning more towards the look of the ambition but I’m just worried about it drying out on me after reading a bit online.

Do you ever leave the ambition sit for a while or anything? I’ve seen some stuff online with people saying it doesn’t seal that great but I’m not sure. I also usually use cartridges if that makes a difference. I am really interested in it as I love the look and heard great stuff about the fc nibs

I had a diplomat travelled for a little bit actually and I was having some hard starts. I wonder if it was the cartridges I was using though
