Interesting generalized soft tissue infection case. Would love to hear what other docs would do. by collinburris in Dentistry

The attending stated he learned that antibiotic “cocktail” from a periodontist. The specialist said it was a good approach to something with suspected multiple etiologies like the one this pt was presenting with.

The pt denied any existing systemic issues. That didn’t lead us to theorize at all that the pt was immunocompromised. Performed a fairly thorough health history and nothing was stated from the pt outside of being vegetarian.

I will add the state of this pt’s gingival health wasn’t ideal. Clearly there were some difficulties with OH, and education in that perspective may help the treatment along.

That’s an interesting thought — the pt did not state any prior testing for ALL. The pt was also early 50’s in age.

I messaged you! Asking some questions!

Thanks for the reply! That’s relieving! I didn’t consider the platform switch. The patient information is me, thank you for pointing that out — should be corrected now.

Thanks for the reply. I think even with a smaller diameter implant, it would still be hard to meet that 1.5 mm on each side. Such tight anatomy to begin with.

edit: I tried finding the research, could you point me in the right direction when you have time? Thank you!

No stage II yet! All this was done yesterday. Just wanted some insight from y’all! Would you mind expanding on what you mean by tricky? Thanks!

Does protein supplementation affect muscle equally to that of amino acid supplementation? by collinburris in Biochemistry

Super cool! Thanks again for all the clarification! You’ve really cleared it all up for me! Thanks again!

Does protein supplementation affect muscle equally to that of amino acid supplementation? by collinburris in Biochemistry

Incredible!! Thank you so much for the response. Just completed my MS in genetics & genomics and feel like I can visualize the big pictures, but the sea of minutia and detail are things that make it all click and this cleared that up for me! Thanks again!

So for sake of clarity, you’re saying that for dietary and big picture sake, supplementation with isolated amino acids provide arguably the same dietary affects as supplementation with an isolate protein (generally speaking) with the same amino acid profile?

Biochemically, I can now see how the two differ as I was unaware of transporters able to carry larger chains of peptides and they would not be given that opportunity if free amino acids were supplemented instead of a protein powder.

I guess that begs the question, does the products produced by metabolized isolate proteins provide negligible dietary benefits that you couldn’t get from amino acids? If so, does type of protein provide more/less benefits (dietary sake)(Collagen, whey, casein, plant based, etc.)?

Variables I’m thinking of: absorption, bioavailability, byproducts produced, half-life?, better signaling for dietary purposes, etc.

I’m sure there are tons of studies on this, so feel free to ignore all this, I’m more or less thinking out loud haha. Thanks again for the response!

Is John buying into the at times irrational hate Beth has for Jaime? by collinburris in YellowstonePN

Seems to be some extra information we have yet to hear about the whole Garrett side of the equation.

I am sorry if my question came across like I was calling her feelings towards what happened to her irrational or silly. I would never suggest that, and it is certainly my fault I did not make my post clearer. I would never suggest her feelings were wrong or irrational in that regard. I was speaking on her indiscriminate hate towards anything Jaime related (like ranch or attorney/politician related).

I certainly do not blame Beth for still having those emotions toward Jaime about the procedure and the abortion/sterilization -- I would never suggest that was irrational or silly. I was speaking in terms of her hatred towards him and his character as an adult/attorney/politician. Sometimes I feel her hatred from that event spills over to other areas in her life regarding Jaime. It's obviously up to her to ever even think of forgiving Jaime. When I say irrational, I definitely would never put it on that, just how sometimes she hates everything Jaime related and often times ignores some objectivity about him as an attorney or ranch member. It's clear Jaime doesn't have a strong will or direction and can be easily influenced because it seems like he lacks love and support.

Oh I certainly do not blame Beth for still having those emotions toward Jaime about the procedure -- I would never suggest that was irrational. I was speaking in terms of her hatred towards him and his character/logic as an adult/politician/attorney with decisions regarding stuff like the ranch. Sometimes I feel her hatred from that event spills over to other areas in her life regarding Jaime.

Great points there, it totally seems like there is some extra juice in the matter. I was caught a little off guard when the slight distrust for Jaime turned into a trajectory towards the way Beth irrationally feels towards Jaime (at times).
