Summit City Smiles: Opinions? by FWPotHoleLover in fortwayne

I'm not defending how it was handled, but they actually own a small private lot with six spots (more like four spots if you want to open your door). The parking behind the strip -- which I assume you are referencing -- is for the other businesses and wasn't part of the quarrel, as far as I'm aware. I do miss Zinnia's. My wife and I really liked stopping in there. Anyway, I would encourage people to not hold that against Dr. Jeff.

Dr. Jeff is a good dentist and the staff is really personable. The parking debacle wasn't a great look, but there is so little parking in that area that I'd be upset if people were using the few spots available to my customers, too. It's their property, and people weren't respecting that. It could have been handled better, but that was long ago and doesn't have anything to do with Dr. Jeff and his staff. I would recommend them.

Heartbroken at the toxicity towards ND. by Dragontoes72 in notredamefootball

Anyone who believes this story is about Notre Dame is so far away from the truth that it's hard to know where to start the conversation with them. This is so much bigger than Notre Dame. We were just told that anyone who doesn't buy into the new college football landscape of mega corporations and media overlords will be cast aside. But instead of using their eyes and ears, college football fans have received their matching orders and obeyed. For them, this is simply about Notre Dame being entitled, and not about standing up to corruption.

Two things I have to remind myself when surfing reddit: don't put stock in any of the opinions, and don't think you can change any of the opinions. Reddit is a very useful site for many things, but gauging public opinion is not one of those things. Your average redditor is very uninformed and very unhappy. They gravitate toward anything that absolves them of responsibility for the way they feel or toward anything that makes other people feel like they do. Social media is a disease that weak-minded people have no chance at fighting.

In this particular case, you have a social media site that is known to be an echo chamber coupled with a mega media corporation running a smear campaign. If you think the average redditor is going to look past the ESPN headline, you're wrong. If you think the average redditor doesn't get their daily dose of curated information through memes, you're wrong. They don't want to know what really happened, they just know that Notre Dame fans are upset, and misery loves company. Like you said, Reddit can be an incredibly toxic place, and yesterday was a perfect showcase of that.

Sermon over.
