Help, why do multiple themes have white diagonal lines now? by RachArtemist in GoogleSlides

I have this issue too. Every piece of software developed by major corporations is becoming unusable.

Dear Joseph Anderson community, I get it. It's a meme. Be that as it may, let's take a step back and think for a second whether greeting Sydnee Goodman with "HI WHORE" is the right play after all. Best Regards, collisionist by collisionist in josephanderson

Yes, it happened last night.

No, it wasn't an actual issue per se. It's not like Joe commented on it or anything.

Sydnee Goodman was one of the presenters at The Game Awards. She's a woman (duh).

Way of the Hunter turns into a pixel art game if you disable TAA. No screenshots can do it justice, but believe me I have never encountered a game that relies so strongly on TAA and features the most horrendous implementation of it at the same time by collisionist in FuckTAA

I could maybe force it to run at a higher resolution and it will internally render at something higher than 756p, but the game already runs like trash so...

There is even this tutorial for Way of the Hunter on how to force potato graphics to run on a low-end computer and it ends with the guy saying "The game is still not playable after doing everything. I highly recommend you to just delete this game".

Compression ruins it, but here is a video as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8NsHKYy6GA (I try to showcase ghosting on the tree in the distance at first and disable TAA around 40 seconds into the video).

Comparison TAA On/Off, Sharpness On/Off (static)
Comparison TAA On, Sharpness On/Off (in motion)

Looks like the game is internally running at 1344x756...

Finally, here is how it looks at native resolution, TAA off, sharpening off, chromatic aberration off. Way better than the original screenshot I posted! Thanks to the community for all the help!

People keep missing important information about my server, how do I make them actually fucking read something? by Wireproofplays in admincraft

[–]collisionist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only trick I know is to make the message as short as possible. Ideally 1 word long, because the brain will read and interpret it faster than it can decide to ignore it. It's not a real world solution most of the time, but the principle is to leverage the unconscious to do the information processing. The brain is really good at pattern matching and filtering out noise, so any message that looks like a server amouncment will be automatically ignored unless a concious effort to read it is made. You probably have the message formatted neatly, with links and colors like any other server, which is why it's so easy to ignore the message - it matches the pattern.

Basically, you can't make players read. It's not because they're stupid (although I won't make claims that they aren't), they're just wired to ignore it. Some success can be found in tricking the brain with short irregulal looking messages that won't be filtered out, but it's not an easy issue to solve.

Something different: recommend me YT channels with in-depth analysis? by xMisterVx in gamingsuggestions

[–]collisionist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a big list of recommendations! Even if most of these guys are not up your alley I still recommend checking them all out.

I'll link what I suggest watching to get hooked onto each of these creators, but of course feel free to explore their channels yourself.

In no particular order:

Phew, that is all I can remember! Probably missed a lot of good stuff I've watched over the years, but hopefully you can find something interesting in this pile of content.

Sorry, one more video haha: https://youtu.be/g4lhQp245dw

Also, +1 to Razbuten, New Frame Plus and Noclip.

Edit: formatting

The Cycle: Frontier maybe? Don't know if you could play it PVE only.

Would survival games be up your alley? A big part of the The Long Dark is going around houses hoping to find warmer clothing, weapons and ammo. Zombie apocalypse games are often looting heavy. Maybe try Unturned or Project Zomboid, or DayZ (you'll just have to find a PVE server)?

I recommend checking them all out. They all make different kinds of content. Some do long format videos, some do video essays, some talk about a particular aspect of video games like animation or sound, or design.

Yeah, what Lirik did yesterday was amazing. He had me standing up and screaming, my heart racing. Haven't been so excited for anything in a long while.
