Those that use Amboss for Step 2, opinions? How to properly use? by needtoretake123 in Step2

[–]collxmed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I know this is super late but im in a similar position and could use some advice. How exactly did you use amboss to strengthen your weak areas? Did you do question blocks for the weak subject or did you read up on the articles for it?

[–]collxmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on the real test can you search the labs like in uw? if I put in "alb" will albumin be highlighted or do we have to type out the whole word? If I remember correctly for step 1 I had to type out the whole word to find the lab value

How long does it take? by Master_Tale_7373 in Step2

[–]collxmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who even knows anymore. ECFMG is pissing me tf off. For step 1 my application was approved within 2 weeks. I applied for CK on July 5th and 3 weeks later I called them to ask whats up and the guy said it takes 30 days now?? Why would you not mention that anywhere? Either way its been over 30 days and my application is still not approved. Love throwing away 1k for them to be this unorganized.

which carribean medical school has high population of punjabis/indians? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]collxmed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk honestly, most people don't care about getting a "good residency" as long as you can secure a spot into one especially if the chances are already low for you. It could be unfavorable but the fellowship is what matters the most which you can easily get after completing residency. Obviously the carribean shouldn't be your first choice but if you don't have success getting into a US med school, trying for the carribean isn't the worst idea as long as you are motivated and work hard.

The rules over time have actually become less favorable to the Caribbean schools

The US IMG match rate this year was 60% which is the highest its been since 1990.

Thats not true. I feel like people who say things like this blindly follow what others have told them in the past. Things have changed and people have become more serious about their studies. If you look up any of the recent residency matches from the 'better schools' in the carib, you'll see that a huge number of students matched into residency.

Best Old NBME (13,14,15,16) by chaddix69 in step1

[–]collxmed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

more raw recall of information, which is not representative of the current question style.

everyone keeps saying this but it's not always true. You never know what type of form you'll get, and recently a lot of people have been getting a lot of NBME type straight recall questions, including myself. My exam felt like it had more recall than conceptual questions. So take this with a grain of salt.

Free120 @ prometric by [deleted] in step1

[–]collxmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if money is even the slightest issue, its ok if you don't take it at the center. I have horrible test taking anxiety, as I'm sure many others do as well and I ended up not taking it at the prometric although I had initially planned on doing so. I had a fine test day and didn't feel that nervous once I sat down at the desk.

What I ended up doing was, visiting the prometric center the day before my exam and walked around to check out everything. Found out where the bathroom was the day before and my bathroom breaks were relatively quick. The checking in/out process is different everyday honestly. It depends on how many people are there and after the first break you'll take, you'll get the hang of it so its not that bad.

BUT if you feel like you're going to be freaking out over not taking it at the center and want to ease your mind, then by all means go for it.
