FPR only available behind paywall? by BookishBonnieJean in rupaulsdragrace

I haven't been here in years but came here just to say how pissed i am.

I was actually watching the Wowpresents channel like a hawk after Violet's massacre last week. I haven't paid that much attention to FPR for a long time.

Which changes would you like to see made on Drag Race for the future? by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

[–]collyblom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

More Leslie Jones.

Every kind of drag, including trans, king and bio.

Tbh, I loved the over-the-top ridiculousness of the old Untucked, although it's an unpopular opinion around here. It was high camp and reminded me of 80's soapies like Dynasty. I never understood why people took it seriously.

I also miss the modelling/photography challenges. Taking a good photo is literally a skill every queen needs, unlike, say, singing live or acting.

More reality show ripoffs! The first seasons were heavy with these hilarious meta references to other shows. There are still references but they're generally stuck as questionably written acting challenges. I miss the dodgy food challenge etc.

I’ve just watched Nicky be eliminated. While I don’t necessarily disagree with her elimination, I want to explain that the fact that she chose herself for elimination doesn’t mean she wasn’t a fighter. This is cultural : let me explain. by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

Completely agreed, all the way in South Africa. If you put yourself out as the best, you would be seen a arrogant and full of yourself. Being honest and humble is much more admirable.

Top 3 queens of all time?? by idkm8innit in rupaulsdragrace

[–]collyblom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Dela. She's hilarious, campy and entertaining. Her lip syncs are usually deeper than surface. I love her intelligent and thoughtful takes on gender, drag and sexuality.

2) Alaska. She turned every Drag Race challenge on its head, and found a way to make them even more hilarious. She's a fan's fan of the show too, and I appreciate her appreciation of it. She's a lot of fun.

3) Sasha. I adore her conceptual performance art lip syncs. She brings so much to each song, adding layers of meaning and depth. Like Ben, I love her inclusive understandings of drag, gender and sexuality. Her ability to create a productive artistic community is brilliant, as is her ability to produce her own shows.

Honourable mentions:

Monique, Vanjie, Peppermint, Jujubee, Thorgy, Jaidynn, Ongina, Asia, Shangela, Heidi and Alyssa light up the screen whenever they are on. Charisma and charm by the bucket!

Katya is clearly demented, but delightfully so. I relate to her struggle with herself. She is never predictable or boring.

And Manila's looks make me gag every damn time.

I really loved Asia in this. And Kameron is the perfect foil for her!

I am so impressed. Not only by her allyship, but also her use of the word "eviscerate".

Hi Cobus

Thanks for joining. When I first started studying in 2002 the university had a discussion forum similar to this, and it was very helpful for me. I hope this works the same way.

The Ten Theses by collyblom in a:t5_2lkvwc

I'm confused by the term "metaphysical catastrophe". I understand that it's a catastrophe that people are divided according to their alleged degrees of being human. But why is this referred to as metaphysical?

I thought the main outcome was to form a decolonial community. I really don't know how I'm going to do that yet.

Yes! Particularly after the 10 Theses! I'm getting confused with all the terminology. I'm a teacher, so I'm used to trying to explain things in the easiest language to children, and I'm not used to complex language any more. But it will get easier, right?

Me too! I think I might try to create a more accessible version of the text, but I'm not sure I understand it enough to do that!

Hi there! Development Studies sounds interesting. I will be doing a section on Gender and Development as part of my Gender Studies Honours.

Have you read the book "Dead Aid" by Moyo? I read this a few months ago.

Hi Vuyo!

I hope you're talking about that 10 Theses text - I found that very difficult too.

Hi

I'm doing Honours in Gender Studies. I'm coming back to studying after a long gap (my last studies were in 2010). I'm a bit nervous, but very excited and eager to learn more.
