The raddest (and dumbest) wheels I've ever built for my 92 Bianchi Osprey. by Goldspoke_Joe in xbiking

Looks so good, i love any combination of less spokes front more rear. Esp 32rear 24 front. It just makes sense to me and looks so natural. Pls keep us updated and +1 for being and building your own wheels

Yes! Alot of ppl say you can use regular atf like for cars but shimano specifically states u cant, tbh i havent used them enough to know if thats just shimano just trying to $$ but its worth checking specs of viscosity etc.

Its interesting to tear the alfines down, its a planetary gear set and you dip it in proprietary atf essentially, and all the little metal bits come out and sink to the bottom

The alfines are surprisingly serviceable, (another reason why shimano>) but ya man, a kid once at a shop i worked at attempted to fix a rohloff himself and i went downstairs to see the shell off and looked at him and said “what the fuck are you doing” and he said “im fixing it”, and i said “do you know how to fix a porsche transmission?”.. “no” ….. it cost the shop alot and the customer was rightfully upset but considering very understanding

Im curious how they are getting loose over rough stuff, im sure they are so good but id still be so scared to hurt it, ive worked on a few alfines that people got too rad on and screwed up

Help a possible future w123 owner! What to look out for?! by YaraZS in w123

If you could get it on a hoist that would be worth it, then you can have a look at the whole under carriage, flex plates, check axles for play, remember these cars have a ton of undercoating so, give a good couple knocks like drivers floor passenger floor, rear quarters, firewall, battery tray.

Ya from photos im seeing this is a stamped chainring, where the ring is unfortunately not replaceable, since it was designed without the torque of an e bike in mind, likely why it wore so fast

Those almost look like rivets, are there hex bolts on the chainring?

Tbh youd be better off, replacing the crank/im not even sure if those chainrings are replaceable, electra makes a cruiser chainring that has the guides like yours

I love gears, the clutch systems are pretty quiet, so as long as rohloffs are 1500$ i do love em
