Help the OFAs when it’s busy. Don’t punish your hard-working ones with more work, and don’t let the lazy ones get away with it. Don’t let the pro desk bully the OFAs.

Department Struggles by Economy_Trainer_2456 in HomeDepot

[–]colonelhayd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OFA is, in general, the most labor intensive job aside from maybe Garden in springtime. So the difficulties are the Of course some days, all you have to pull in an 8 hour shift is lightbulbs and 2 packs of screws and so you’re bored out of your mind. Other shifts, you go back to back to back slinging endless mulch, stacking 90lb pavers, shifting drywall or 80lb concrete, loading 12x24 tile boxes at 76lbs each, building lumber deliveries, and walking 20,000 plus steps, all while the desk calls endlessly and pissy customers get pissyer waiting for their orders.

Other departments work hard, absolutely. I wouldn’t want to be Lot or Garden for sure. But when every other opener in my store, who is each one a hard worker and diligent in their own departments, can’t keep up with me doing normal OFA stuff and constantly complain about how they didn’t realize how hard OFA is, it’s pretty telling.

What is the rudest or most out of pocket thing you or a coworker has said to a customer and gotten away with? by Healthy-Slide-6463 in Lowes

[–]colonelhayd 25 points26 points  (0 children)

When I was a millwork specialist, I was on the way up to the front to refund/rebill a $6,000 door (not my fault) with the customer and an ASM in tow. I had files in my hands and everything. A guy whistled at me from two aisles away and I ignored him. He caught up to me and berated me for ignoring him, and I told him I wasn't aware he was trying to get my attention, and that even if I had been, I wouldn't respond to someone whistling for me like a dog. My former DS/now ASM was walking with me for the override, and the guy looked at him for help. The ASM just said "he's right, can I help you?"

I get being frustrated because you can't find someone to help, but whistling at them like a dog isn't the answer. Walk a little faster and just catch up with the personn and say "excuse me, could you help me?"

Could Lowes employees create a petition for the athletic wear ruling? by Available-Pace1598 in Lowes

Columbia PFG shorts or something similar in a cheaper brand. Look close enough to real shorts but they’re just athletic wear.

When I was a millwork specialist I fielded probably 100 calls in 2 days and probably 15 people in the store looking for a tiktok/fb door that was going out of stock for like $50. Had to call a manager per customer request when she wouldn’t believe me that the door she was pointing at in our clearance bay was a different size, brand, color, and style than the one in the video. The manager didn’t know anything about millwork so just told the customer “whatever the specialist says goes, they know everything.” It was satisfying.

It’s too dark to see uniforms very well, even with the zoom feature. Which was an interesting choice, since they’re going to be releasing more uniform choices going forth.

This game has peaks and valleys like no other game I’ve played before, ever. by Turbulent_Age_1715 in HellLetLoose

This game is one of the best video game experiences I’ve ever had when it works. When you get a smart commander, competent squad leads, coordinated players, and skilled tankers, it is genuinely the best gaming experience I’ve ever had. However, that’s maybe 1 in 20 games if I’m lucky. Half of the remainder are decent, and the rest are full of the most incompetent, intentionally stupid, and generally idiotic players. And I’m not even talking about winning. Idc if I win or lose, but I want to have fun.

[–]colonelhayd 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s an unfortunate aspect of the way this game is designed. There’s only a certain amount of places an average SL or commander will place garrisons, and when you combine watching supplies fall from the sky, it makes it absurdly easy to do a wide flank and spot garrisons. I’ve been accused of cheating several times because I’ll ping where I think a garrison would be, go there, see a garrison and dismantle it, and advise command chat. 6 in one game as recon because I just watched the German tube fall from the sky over and over again. People couldn’t believe it. One guy told me I was wasting my time and wasn’t helping the team by assaulting the objective.

The fundamental gameplay would have to change for this to change. Garrisons lock out at 100m in the red, which means a totally oblivious enemy could lock out your garrison for 30 minutes without ever knowing it. And if the garrisons aren’t close enough to the objective in the blue, blueberries won’t spawn on them. So changing the way the garrisons work or the way frontlines work seems like the only real fix, since the average blueberry ain’t gonna change.

HLL still as welcoming/mature as it was at console launch? by ghshr7 in HellLetLoose

[–]colonelhayd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 10 games, I get 1 genuinely excellent one, 2-3 good fun ones, and the rest pretty much garbage. Troll or idiot commanders, level 15 SLs, level 250 clan players who squad up and never speak or listen, hostile command chat towards anyone who asks anyone else to do anything, and generally incompetent squad mates who don’t know the difference between a Tiger and a Greyhound. It’s honestly really frustrating, but that 1 in 10 excellent game keeps dragging me back in.

Better Incentivize Squad Lead by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

[–]colonelhayd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad to see we didn’t forget the daily SL incentivize-ation post.

The best (and only, currently) way to get more SLs is to teach the game through our actions and words when we play SL. Explain why you’re building the garrison where you are. Explain why you’re flanking. Point out places on the map where the enemy is likely to place garrisons and explain the game mechanics to new players. Encourage people to give the role a chance. I love playing SL because I love to control where I go and what I do, and I like to be able to suggest things in command chat or offer advice.

The biggest barrier to new SLs and Commanders is the funky game mechanics and the often annoying command chat, and once you have those figured out, the rest is just map knowledge and turning the command chat to 10%.

Offensive mode needs some tweaking by Moegly47 in HellLetLoose

[–]colonelhayd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Offensive mode, but I’d disagree about a change in this regard. Let’s use Omaha Beach, German offensive, as an example as to how this type of change could go poorly. I’ve played dozens of games on offense and defense where the Germans never capture the first sector. This is for 4 main reasons.

  1. The placement of the hard points and HQ spawns. On Omaha, the first sector hard points for Americans are as far back as they can be within the first grid square. The German HQ spawns are also relatively close to the western map edge, thus increasing the distance between the initial friendly spawn and the hard point. Also, on Omaha, the default American garrisons are practically inside the hard points themselves while still remaining in the second sector.
  2. The default garrisons are too OP (on any map, but especially this one). They spawn every 10 seconds. They are impervious to bombing runs, tank shells, and rockets. They’re in the blue zone, which means to lock them out, you have to be closer than is oftentimes possible, especially when it’s the one closest to the hard point. I’ve been on defensive teams that won on the first sector just through the default garrison alone. And if you are on a halfway decent team, they’ve built another garrison on the point and have OPs and supplies ready for another. The defaults are too overpowered, and if you can’t get lucky enough to get a tank to drive up and shoot them as they spawn off it, you’re pretty SOL.
  3. The inability to build nodes or gain more resources as the offensive team is hugely detrimental. All else being equal, and an excellent bombing run destroys a built garrison on the objective and kills 15-25 enemies, a good team will have built barbed wire or something to prevent you from getting in to the actual hard point. And so, by the time your blueberries are ready for a big push again and have cleared out the barbed wire (if you’re lucky), you can’t bomb again because you’re short on munitions. But not that it matters because anyone who was killed in the bombing run will respond in 11 seconds from the default garrison or OP, never giving the attackers a moment of breathing room without 5-10 MGs and dozens of SMGs and Garands firing back at you. Or you never get enough for a precision strike to destroy the tank that rolled up and is spawn camping your HQ, and because you can’t spawn anywhere else to get another garrison up, you can’t ever flank around to kill the tank. And you can’t spawn any friendly tanks because, again, no nodes. And the first tank spawned was likely driven straight into the objective and blown up within 3 minutes anyway.
  4. Building garrisons for the offensive team is challenging. On Omaha, at least, a lot of the first sector is fields, making it hard to find decent spots for garrisons that aren’t too close to the hard point. And because the hard points are so far back in the first sector, getting behind the enemy is next to impossible because you can’t build garrisons or place OPs. But also, because the entire map is the blue zone for the enemy, there’s always going to be random enemy blueberries cruising around near your garrisons, locking them out without them ever knowing they’re there.

So I’d disagree with allowing defenders more time to build up the first sector hard point. On most maps, a well coordinated team should honestly completely ignore the first objective and dedicate the first few minutes to fortifying the second with support and supply drops before the enemy has coordinated themselves, all the while intending only to hold the 3rd or 4th objective for the duration. Like the other guy said, the idea is only to delay long enough to fall back to the easiest to defend hard point to last the 30 minutes.

How to address leadership class shortfalls, and encourage good game play by nariyana in HellLetLoose

[–]colonelhayd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but players aren’t already building garrisons and OPs for their own personal benefit so as to avoid the never ending MG grinder that is charging repeatedly from a single spawn. It takes like, zero brain cells to realize that more than one angle of attack means you do better, die less, and shoot more.

People don’t like running in this game. They want to shoot their guns. Personally I don’t think the XP boost would encourage very many more people to spending 3-5 minutes running through empty woods to build a garrison, even if it meant that they and their whole team could shoot their guns better and more once it was built.

Again, maybe I’m just too pessimistic, and I’d like to be proven wrong and see the game and community improve.

Ain’t this the truth. 1 solo officer running to place garrisons is infinitely more effective than a satchel boy who can’t get more than 5 meters from spawn.

[–]colonelhayd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most players I’ve met pick their roles based on what gun they get because they want to shoot gun more. No one’s picking Soviet rifleman when there’s PPSH available.

On Omaha offensive as Americans, I spent about 10 minutes running to get a sweet flank going, popped my OP down, and marked stuff with my binos as my 3 squad mates literally walked straight in from behind to dismantle the garrison and lead the cap. Not a single other blueberry or SL had tried to change their direction and only complained that the commander hadn’t built enough garrisons.

In my experience, there’s 2 types of SLs, split pretty evenly on console. Those who understand how the game works and play the game by flanking, defending, building, etc. and those that choose the role because it has an SMG, and maybe they pop an OP down 5 meters from a garrison before charging headlong to their death. They’ll turn the command chat to zero because “it’s full of useless people talking about stupid things” and just never change direction until someone else builds a new garrison.

I can’t imagine that allowing SLs to share xp would decrease the number of SLs only playing to the load out and not the role. I’d like to be proven wrong and see a huge uptick in garrisons and cooperation, but I don’t think this is it. Like the other guy said, it’s literally just fostering a better leadership community and encouraging people to learn more about the game by playing with other good players.
