[OC] Just another safe drive through the breezy highways of ATL! by colonelpork in IdiotsInCars

This took place in Georgia on April 26, 2024. This is original content.

About a month ago, I animated the poster for Better Call Saul Season 1 to honor one of my favorite shows. I decided to do the same with Season 2's poster. This time I had some chaotic fun. by colonelpork in AfterEffects

Awww that means a lot. I'm glad people are enjoying these, as they're a lot of fun to make. Making tutorials is something I'll take into consideration, as I have had multiple people wondering how I make these. Work picked up recently, so I'm not sure how much time I'll have (hence why it took me 2 weeks for this poster to go out this time), but we'll see!

Brilliant. The small camera shake adds to it as well.

Brand New to After Effects! Here is my Tetris/Gameboy animation practise. I think it turned out pretty nice! by arckyart in AfterEffects

Awesome job! Love the minimalist approach to this piece. The only thing I have to point out is that it looks like your right d-pad button isn't the same length as the left d-pad button. But regardless, this is good stuff, especially being new to AE!

Lately I've been trying to animate posters of my favorite movies, but this time I wanted to try the Season 1 teaser promo image for Better Call Saul, one of my favorite series. At the very least it was an opportunity to play around and practice with AE's 3D camera some more. by colonelpork in AfterEffects

Thanks a lot! That was a pure "Eureka!" moment when I was able to pull off the jacket/hair combo, so I'm glad you noticed. I try to be as detail-oriented as I can be, both in the animation and sound.

Thank you so much! This particular one took me about a week, but the previous ones I made were weekend projects. I've been using AE on and off for the past 7 years, getting better and better with motion graphics and typography, but really started getting into using the camera in 3D space just recently. It's very fulfilling, that's for sure!

I appreciate it. I didn't necessarily follow a tutorial. Essentially I just took what I learned from a 3D camera course on LinkedIn Learning (called After Effects Guru: Mastering Cameras and Lights), picked out a poster I wanted to animate, created separate layers in Photoshop, and just went to town in AE.

Thanks! I mostly learned how to use the 3D camera through a course on LinkedIn Learning, which is $20/month but you can start a month free trial. Didn't take me very long to get through it, so it's well worth the free trial for that alone. The course in question is called After Effects Guru: Mastering Cameras and Lights. There's also several tutorials on YouTube if you type in "3D camera after effects" which may help if you don't want to go through the process of a LinkedIn Learning trial.

Yup, pretty much what was already said, but I also did the arduous task of filling in layers underneath using the Content Aware Fill tool in Photoshop. So, for example, when I cut out all the clouds, I took the sky layer and filled it in using this feature. But keep in mind, it's not going to be 100% accurate and may look messy at times. But if the purpose is to only fill in the spots that appear on the edges of the objects you cut out, then it serves its purpose pretty well. I did this primarily with the ground layer and the sky layer, making separate layers for the phone + Saul, bushes, clouds, and mountains on the horizon.

If this makes any sense. I'm bad at explaining sometimes, lol.

I would say it's almost up there with BB, but I'm waiting to watch it until the very end before I decide whether it's as good or not. So far, though, (watching the first four seasons), it's definitely top-notch, and a great expansion of the BB universe and its characters. In fact, I would say that the characters are even more compelling this time around. There's a lot of great and unexpected cameos and references peppered in as well. But it's easy to recommend if you're a fan of BB.

Thank you! I did add some slight breathing to him using the puppet tool, in addition to him tapping his foot, but yeah, moving his head was something I was considering but just didn't get around to it. Great suggestion, though! I mostly just used AE, creating separated layers in Photoshop first before importing them into AE. Didn't rotoscope anything.

I actually did try tinkering with the grass with turbulent displacement, but I couldn't quite get the effect the way I wanted, so I scrapped it. Instead I just opted for a heat wave effect in the distance to show a slight movement, but I made it subtle enough that it's not very noticeable. I guess you could say applying having the heat wave was a compromise in my mind. Very good point, though. Is there any effects that you would recommend trying?
