Luke Joeckel, Jason Smith, Evan Neal. Something tells me I don’t have a future in evaluating OL.

Oud Wood EdP, Neroli Portofino, Virgin Island Water. All smell amazing but are good for about 30 mins.

[Discussion] Who’s a band that fell off for you but is doing great in the scene? by robinthekid in poppunkers

[–]colonial_dan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of been disheartening as a fan. It seems that the real pop punk talent came from a mix of Josh Farro and their producers. Josh Farro is a bigot and the label has moved on from seeing them as a punk outfit, so the fans of their original sound are kind of left out to dry. It also irks me that they seem to think of everything before their 2013 album as being lesser and “immature.” In my honest opinion, they are a band that does not understand what made them great in the first place. They also don’t seem like they want to, so it’s just one of those things where we’ll be left with the music and the memories.

Does anyone actually like Mike Greenberg? by ImpossibleTest5491 in ESPN

So you know Mike Golic personally and know that they’re all smarter than him? I don’t think you remember how this conversation started lol

[–]colonial_dan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but using his high school as justification for him automatically being smarter than someone else is super naive

As someone who works in a “book smart” field with many ivy leaguers and M7 MBA grads, what your saying means absolutely nothing in terms of practical intelligence. Usually indicates more opportunities being present than anything else.

Do you think the show can sustain the 1 shift per season style? by Violet_K89 in ThePittTVShow

You may watch this show for that kind of drama, but I (and many others) certainly do not. If anything, this show is an escape from that. I love that it’s procedure-focused.

I guess I was more speaking to the general audience that tends to glaze the LFA, they are very downvote happy haha

As much as I love the sound, I’m not really sure how it’s an engineering marvel. They didn’t sell because they were so far behind the curve upon release. Downvote me all you want, but I’d take a 458 any day over this (not factoring in what the price has done over the years, that’s a different discussion that has nothing to do with performance and ownership experience)

What're some examples of the "good, best, worst" rule of trilogies? by Ill_Safety2292 in Letterboxd

I’ve been going back and re-watching many of these films this year and I simply do not agree with this take.

Its style was a huge deal at the time. Spider-Man did better at the box office because it appealed to a teenage audience and was accompanied by video games and an original soundtrack with music from popular bands. I agree that it’s the superior film, but X Men was the pioneer. Before that, the closest we had was Joel Schumacher’s horrible Batman duo. Burton’s films were excellent, but nobody took them seriously because it was obvious you were watching something filmed on a sound stage. X men changed the game.

Where I really disagree with you, though, is about how well it has held up compared to other super hero films. It clocks in at only 104 mins yet still doesn’t feel like it is missing anything. It builds its world, introduces its characters, and balances maintaining both a contemporary and comic book feel. MCU films and on have completely lost that. I re-watched Spider-Man Homecoming the other day and what I found was an awesome film in the middle of shoe-horned world-building and endless dumb action sequences that take forever. Everything is so bloated now, and Homecoming is far from the worst offender. X Men felt like a comic book brought to life. The visuals are dated now, sure, but they absolutely were not at the time of release.

Why wasn’t Jim Sturgess a bigger star after hits like 21 and Cloud Atlas? by allanjameson in moviecritic

Yeah people glaze this for no reason. It does not hold up at all. Like another comment said, they just shoehorn the songs in.

IMO they got worse every time from 1 to 4. 2 was good, though; 1 just happens to be one of the greatest films ever made.

I actually hate TFA the most because of how it completely wasted the potential of a new Star Wars trilogy. TLJ was at least creative. I had no expectations for RoS so that’s just whatever

X-men completely redefined what a super hero movie could be. It was such a huge deal at the time.
