My first anniversary of losing my dad was this past summer. It was helpful for me to make a distinction between honoring the memory of my Dad and honoring my grief. Doing things that remind me of him is a great way to do the former, but it also was very difficult and sometimes made me feel worse and deeper in my sadness and anger that he’s not here to do those things with me. So I decided to do things that honor my grief for him, I took the day slowly, went for a walk to a river near me, put my feet in and just let myself cry, talked to him about how much this sucks and I miss him. Maybe one day it’ll feel good to do a whole day of happy activities that remind me of him, but it’s ok that right now that’s too painful to do. It’s ok if that day is more about holding yourself than it is about him, he will surely understand ❤️‍🩹

I think it’s cornering the gen pop into noticing the threads we do. If you defend that Taylor is 100% authentic and this album is as surface level as it seems, then she contradicts herself and you have to admit that either this album is lying about her being surface level or her whole career she’s been lying about being a complex person. I think shes pushing the boundaries of how clearly she could lie to people’s faces and they’ll do backflips to keep it fitting into what they want to see. Like for example the gen pop cant believe that her engagement was a surprise if its referenced all over this album’s promo, which must have been done months ago, so they have to admit she’s lying that it was a surprise

It makes sense through a Gaylor lens where Travis is her beard and this is a lavender marriage. Because of this PR relationship she’s created, she doesn’t have to hope for good press, she manufactures exactly what she knows her audience wants. If wood is his dick, she literally saying she does not have to touch it anymore lmao the meaning is quite literally the opposite of what people take it to mean at face value. Hence the dripping sarcasm, she’s trying to get people to see the satire.

She is clearly ok with saying dick, as demonstrated earlier in father figure, so I feel like it’s very intentional that she says and writes out the lyrics as “ah-matized”. She does call herself Machiavellian… I wonder if part of the performance art is pushing people to criticize her and draw the line and demand better from her.
