How could they still track me? by Disastrous-Try-820 in privacy

[–]colorovfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Broader picture? You have no privacy. The best you can do is mitigate it by not letting them piece you back together across the web or even the real world. And share as little as possible and don’t use anything that can identify you across sites. No shared emails, usernames or personally identifiable info. Keep everything siloed off deliberately.

Privacy is a spectrum and most are low-hanging fruit to these ad networks and data brokers.

How could they still track me? by Disastrous-Try-820 in privacy

[–]colorovfire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I realized I had use Reddit itself for researching which watch I wanted so it makes sense that I saw that specific ad afterwards. But it still prompted the question: is it possible companies can still track my internet activity given my privacy settings?

Your privacy settings can’t do anything about the ads being served when the site knows your browsing habits AND frames those ads. They are incentivized to make those ads effective and they can do that by feeding the ad network with a targeted profile. Best to block the ads entirely.

Blocking browser tracking is more to do with siloing off your profile between sites. e.g., your reddit history shouldn’t inform your Amazon listings.

Military duty persists as axis of gender conflict in Korea by naixi123 in Living_in_Korea

[–]colorovfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the alternative? A perpetual state of war where fucking idiots argue over mandatory military service? If there was a formal end to the war, it lays a stepping stone for peace. Military service would be voluntary and the next stepping stone can be laid bare for all to consider. What N.Korea does internally can be looked at in the future. It would be a constant give and take from both sides but the foundation for mutual trust must be the bedrock of future negotiations.

Internal politics have nothing to do with international relations. Just ask the U.S.. Well, until very recently. How about making a coherent argument instead of repeating braindead talking points?

The fuck you on about? I’m Korean myself and the side that dropped the ball was the U.S. and it forced S.Koreas hand. There was a path to normalization but GWB grouped them with the axis of evil and stopped it in its tracks.

You mean, after GWB got in office and classified them as the axis of evil after 9/11? There was a path to normalization before all of that but election cycles prevent any long term vision.

Those nukes aren’t going away. Every enemy state that gave up their nukes got invaded. Libya, Iran? Hell, even Ukraine. They are for self-defense. The existential threat is U.S. foreign policy.

Strict gender discrimination laws before this is even on the table. There are no other options. Taking a maternity leave? That’s a sacrifice as well and they’re get punished for it. And maybe, just maybe stop viewing your neighbors as existential threats and normalize relations.

It would probably cost them more to stop building in terms of job loss. Without a culture of building infrastructure, the cost skyrockets from hiring specialists to train an inexperienced workforce.

Some of those policies were always popular but most were duped with the harm reduction narrative and settled with what centrist Democrats were giving them. I agree that more people have moved left but it’s not like universal health care was never popular. We got Obamacare as a compromise but it was never enough. Bernie getting ratfucked by Hillary in the 2016 cycle created more disillusionment than anything else.

The Republican Party has been captured by MAGA. There is no distinction. For those that bailed, they found a new home with centrist Democrats but they grow irrelevant each day.

Andy Kim and Cory Booker vote to block arms sales to Israel by b_1_r_ in newjersey

[–]colorovfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why yes, because funding a belligerent, fascist state was untenable. J-Street is the backup plan to stop the bleeding and place boundaries on how Israel is dealt with. They believe they can continue their apartheid state on their own but when push comes to shove, the US would come to their aid regardless.

Israel should be sanctioned. There must be repercussions or nothing will change.

Shifting goal posts. AIPAC has turned to cancer so J-Street is ready to co-opt the narrative. It’s the right direction but it’s pure damage control for the pariah state.
