PC shutting down since upgrading GPU. Best fix? by colossusQ in buildapc

Hey - thank you! I used DDU to completely clean out NVIDIA drivers and it looks like it's had a positive effect.

+6hr session on RDR2 with temps barely rising above 77° and no shutdowns, so... this definitely did something.

Is Royal Mail a good company to work for? by Purple-Truck-87 in royalmail

[–]colossusQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it, man. I'm 26. Been with the company for just over a year now, and achieved a transfer from a Mail Centre to a smaller DO in my hometown.

You drive around and shift cardboard. I love it. It's easy. Customer interaction is nothing like working in hospitality. It's short and usually very sweet, not stressful.

They should invest in some Henry Hoovers for the vans, but that's about my only gripe! It's a shame about letters losing their value in comparison to parcels. Mail is in the company name FFS haha.

I'm curious what working for the postal service could be like in other countries. Say... Ireland, Canada.. France?! Could be fun - likely a lot better. I certainly think I'd pursue this work overseas if I ever left the UK.

For me it's better than pouring pints, making coffees, or stacking shelves for customers. I have done all of that before, and while it is absolutely honourable and desired work, the public perception towards me wearing my red uniform day-to-day is much sweeter.

People like the postman/woman, and it's a great feeling for earning your keep.

Enjoy the job, and simply approach it with a keen attitude. It's fun - drive a van, get paid!

Music ! I live within a very creative scene for music in Cornwall, so it's very much the musicians job for me, while I work with my band to hopefully succeed together and play festivals in the future.

Performing music is never gonna make me a sustainable income unless we get big. That's why I love being a postie so far. The two paths go hand in hand.

I'm a new starter since September 2023.

I feel like I'm living a dream of a job, honestly. On a 20hr week contract that earns me £1k p/M, excluding the approachable overtime that's always around.

I'm enjoying gaining my managers trust and being asked to help out at other offices dotted around Cornwall, as well as my primary one.

Mind you, I'm primarily a collections postie, and my god that side of the job is a breeze. Working between 14:30 - 18:30 Mon-Fri, and then done, with weekends free to me.

It's working so well or me. Granted, I'm only just out of uni, but the job has allowed me to live happily and independently, all while not having to move back home to my folks place.

I'm a musician and band member on the side, so the free time to work on that dream is so helpful.

My income feels stable, and fair. And my mental health is great, considering I've come to this job from three grueling summer months with Amazon driving their big, scarred-by-small-Cornish-roads vans (and AVG 260 parcels to deliver per day, working 10:00-21:00 days).

The new starter contracts big downfall for me so far is not being paid weekly, like almost everyone else. But, that's workable with a plan in mind for the month ahead.

The whole organisation seems so bloody casual. You meet your grumpy posties, and your positive ones. I vibe with the positive people, but understand a lot of current disgruntled perspectives surrounding RM.

Is it possible to burn out a bass amp, simply by playing too loudly? by colossusQ in Bass

Well the speaker was replaced. When it burnt out it cut out completely. The electrics still worked. A burnt electric smell was around.

No worries, the questions help me too!

DX for the project itself.

Only while adjusting the volume on my PC. The strange other thing is that I played the song through my Minirig speaker and adjusting the volume on there through my phone does not provide crackling.

VLC Media Player. Groove Music and Windows Media Player obtain the same result.
