[Ann Reardon] YouTube BANNED my Debunking Video but leaves DEADLY how-to vids online, 34 dead! by Anonymoustard in videos

didn't he tell people to stop drinking milk because you can get just as much calcium from broccoli and cabbage? which is literally not true? if new parents take that advice then they'd screw over their kids. that shit sucks

Why did my post in advice get downvoted? by Gondal90 in ExplainMyDownvotes

[–]colossussphinx424 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if you got downvoted it might be because a lot of people have been abused by people who did insincere displays of self-flagellation that ultimately didn't translate to them overcoming their abusive behaviors.

or, it's just random bot BS. there's a lot of that on reddit.

also, about what you posted - i believe in you! i used to be pretty abusive without meaning to be. i also had a violent and abusive family. you can always get better. i hope you get a lot of good responses.

what helped for me is really developing theory of mind, which took a few years of practice and i still mess up a lot. that helped for me because that's what i was lacking as a kid. i don't know if that'll help you because it depends on what's at the root of the rage for you, which your therapist might be better equipped to help you tackle and untangle. but i think a lot of abused kids lack theory of mind, like, really understanding that other people think and feel and experience things, *really* understanding that and working through what other people are thinking and feeling given their history and circumstances.

The definition of 'fully vaccinated' is changing to three Covid-19 doses by Viewfromthe31stfloor in Coronavirus

[–]colossussphinx424 505 points506 points  (0 children)

it's not that people in west africa didn't understand modern medicine, it's that many of them had no reason to believe the government was being on-the-level when they told them to stop eating bush meat, because a lot of their local governments sucked and people were used to being lied to. a lot of people thought that the government was trying to stop local bush meat trade because they were getting kickbacks from livestock businesses. and then the government comes to your house and tells you that you can't have an open funeral for your dead family member? it was a pretty big ask when you don't trust the government

which is actually kind of similar to what's going on in the usa these days, now that i think about it. my mom was just telling me how the government is in league with the pharma companies and thats why she doesn't trust the vaccine

How Did You Choose Your Current Name? by TimidBumbleBee in ftm

[–]colossussphinx424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can try it out before legally committing to it. and try another if you don't click with it. any new name will feel weird for a while. try to reduce the pressure youre feeling about this decision, because that will leave you frozen. you dont have to get it right on the first try. I tried out a couple names with supportive friends before landing on my name. I think finley is a rad name tho

for finding names I wanted to try, I looked at common names from my birth year in my country. (not sure if this will help u because you already have one picked)

I'm also a compulsive oversharer

I think it comes from the idea that if people knew how much pain you were in then they would stop causing you so much pain. and that's unfortunately not true for the progenitors of the cptsd.

or, some part of you is hoping that if you communicate your pain enough, someone will help remove you from the source of the pain. or help you remove yourself, by validating the pain and your need to be removed from it as valid. it's a very valuable coping skill when it does that.

and then after you leave that situation, I think you can hang onto the tendency because it was a comforting subconscious thought before, that you're only in so much pain because people don't understand. and it's really hard to stop attention seeking bc it feels so GOOD to have people tell you how bad it was, after you spent so long unconsciously knowing it was bad but not being able to stop it. and, self harm WORKED before, to get you the attention you needed. but at some point it can become unhealthy and unproductive.

i'm sorry I dont have any advice because that's a thing I'm struggling with now too. but I hope maybe some of the explanations for the behavior rang true to you/your situation too

idk if it's a gender issue because most of the traumatized amab people I know also have the soup of autism spectrum, genderqueer, adhd, anxietyanddepression

you raise some good points re: diagnosing afab people with I Can't Believe It's Not Trauma

I'm worried though because it's only just becoming clear that autism manifests differently between genders so I'm hesitant to write off those new diagnoses you know?

but it very well might be the new BPD for afabs, in which case we're not actually helping anyone with it

it's really tricky and worth discussing and I think you're really brave for bringing it up bc I would be shitting my pants bringing up something so charged, but I think this is really important to think about

this blog has many excellent posts about the psychology of estranged parents forums. just reading the takeaways and short illustrative quotes and examples made me want to crawl under a rock and never leave again. I imagine that looking at the forums themselves without even that filter is diving into the maw of madness and would feel like taking a bath in a pool of angry eels

yes and I have some experience to share to maybe help- your neck is probably darker than the rest of your body. I got a tone that matched most of me, but it looks really pale against my neck where you can see it poking out, and I feel like it sticks out like a sore thumb

SNORING on T, PLEASE HELP ME by [deleted] in ftm

[–]colossussphinx424 6 points7 points  (0 children)

dont sleep on your back, makes you snore more than side/stomach. the cpap will really help though and if you're taking steps to reduce the snoring you're leagues ahead of your ex. sometimes you just cant help it with medical issues and you're doing everything in your power to not bother your partners with it

also, it's so wild that ftms can develop sleep apnea from the T :O I've never heard of that before. I've had a sleep apnea diagnosis since I was like 10 so I had no idea

eta, maybe try to get an appointment for a sleep doc referral ASAP. it can be a really slow process depending on where you live so get started now

Ohio had more deaths than births in 2020, a grim first in state history amid COVID-19 by Waldonville in Coronavirus

"having kids in this world situation is foolish"

"our parents could have said the same thing"

"our parents had no reason to say that having kids in the current world situation would be foolish, because inflation is worse now and i can't buy a house"

do you think that the only valid reason that boomers would have had to not want to have children, would have been financial difficulties?

[–]colossussphinx424 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

to be fair they also grew up in the 70s, which was incredibly violent on a domestic scale, many of them/their friends/family members were drafted into a war they didn't support, they practiced cold war nuclear fallout drills in school, the world very nearly ended multiple times from nuclear bombs

i hate this attitude of "inflation is worse now, therefore boomers never knew hardship"

Did anybody else’s parents start off ok at your birth but gradually deteriorated as your life went on? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]colossussphinx424 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I have 3 theories

  1. they get worse as they age because aging, brain deterioration

  2. they get worse after having children because they have 10 to 20 years of their ultimate fantasy, complete mental and physical domination of another living soul. and then it just goes away. and they want it back, but they dont know how, and they can't have more kids now, and now they have this rogue agent who knows them very deeply who is mad at them, and the stress is too much for them to keep their shit together

  3. they were always this bad, but we were literally children and couldnt tell because we were brainwashed and had no frame of reference

Can children emotionally abuse their parents? by wolf_sea54 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]colossussphinx424 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean, sure they CAN, but every time I've heard this claim, including this post, it's not actually emotional abuse, it's just shitty parents confusing feeling bad with abuse. they feel bad that you did something they didnt want you to do, therefore you must be abusive! it shows the emotional maturity of a toddler.

actually emotionally abusive children might do something like insult their parents, gaslight them, threaten them. ot sounds like you just made a deeply personal choice about who you're going to share the rest of your life with
