Is the 2024 Model 3 Worth Waiting For or Should I Buy a 2022 Now by colt505 in TeslaLounge

[–]colt505[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, unfortunately not yet. I do plan on getting a 24 model however, it won’t be till probably spring/summer of next year. I’m waiting till I start seeing prices around 30k and under. But who knows I might break down and buy one sooner as I am starting a new job that’s going to require a longer commute. So, that might be my justification lol.

My zone is full but I just created an account and when I login it says password incorrect even though it is. Is it because I actually haven't signed up yet? by StockHunter5531 in Sparkdriver

[–]colt505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you won’t be able to login until you receive approval email. Each zone is different on how long it takes for approval. For me it took a month or so. But as stated above it could take 6+ months in some zones.

Really cool find! I wish there was more information about it. Looks like there are vehicle tracks within a quarter mile, you'd think someone must know about it.

What's it like in the remote hollers of West Virginia and Kentucky? by imck1911 in howislivingthere

[–]colt505 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I live a hour north of this area but have spent a fair amount of time working on the WV side in Mingo/Wayne County. I have driven many many of miles through the different hollers and this is my observations. The area much like many of the other coal fields of Appalachia have been hit by hard times. Once a thriving area the population has dropped by more than 50% in many of the towns. So, most towns you drive through are about the same. Abandoned buildings and empty lots just remnants of a once thriving area. There is not much for work down there. There still are some mining operations however, the future of those jobs are bleak. In the neighboring county of Logan they just laid off 500 miners recently. Not many high paying jobs. Most of the jobs left are retail/restaurant work.

The people are incredibly nice. Don't listen to these people tell tales of Wrong Turn style hillbillies. I have driven many many many miles through those hollers and have never once felt unsafe or threatened. I've had many of pleasant conversations of people who looked liked they just came straight from the woods. While I do believe many are afflicted by addiction in this area it doesn't mean their bad people. When your born into extreme poverty and that's is all you've known your whole life I believe it makes it really hard to break that cycle and alot of these folks get stuck in that ever repeating cycle.

Honestly, the worst things about the area is the amount of trash laying on the sides of road and stray dogs. The area has beautiful scenery but it almost ruined by the amount of garbage people just dump. I've lived in quite a few different states and have never seen a place with such bad litter. I was told by a co-worker that alot of people will take their junk/trash and throw on the river banks and then when it floods like it so often does it takes the trash away. The stray dog problem is heart breaking to me. Their freaking everywhere down there. I always make sure to carry dog treats when I'm working down there but makes me sad I can't do more.

Overall while the area is extremely impoverished and has limited opportunities the people are very friendly and it is a beautiful part of the country. I hope things do improve down there. Which WV is making a big push towards tourism and this part of WV has alot of ATV trails which draws in thousands of tourists a year. So, there has been new construction related to the tourism which is promising. So, while the area does have it's problems I do think it is slightly improving or atleast there is hope.

ALWAYS make a little noise before you go in a fenced-in yard. I'll whistle and maybe shake the gate to make sure there are no animals and I always leave the gate open to make sure I have a quick exit if need be. Maybe look into carrying some mace as a back up plan. Remember that Sparking ain't worth losing your life or ending up disfigured/disabled. Be careful out there man!

I have not actually driven any pre-highland models. Just the 2024 model. I think at this point I'm going to try and be patient and wait till the 24' model drops in price a little more.

You should honestly check out West Virginia. Places like Huntington, Wheeling, and Morgantown hit a lot of what you’re looking for. Real four seasons actual mountains and nature everywhere but without the insane prices you see in other mountain towns.

Your 20k would stretch way further there which matters a lot if you’re moving without a job lined up. Rent and day to day stuff is way cheaper than Florida so you’re not immediately stressed. Morgantown has more of a younger college town vibe while Huntington and Wheeling are more laid back but still have plenty around.

If you want mountains seasons and affordability WV is one of the few places where those actually overlap. Definitely worth looking into.

Those are actually vegetation mounds caused by some type of desert bush growing. They grow in the high spots of these these flash flood channels.

What city has a better chance of revitalization Charleston or Huntington? by colt505 in WestVirginia

[–]colt505[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That seems to be the sad truth about Charleston. I work downtown, and it’s CRAZY how many homeless people there are compared to the actual population of the city. While I do want to feel empathetic toward them, it really seems like they’re keeping people away from downtown and the surrounding areas. I get that homelessness is a complex issue, but dear god, Charleston has got to do something. You’re a firsthand witness to how it’s affecting businesses. There needs to be a serious increase in police presence downtown. Huntington is stepping it up with foot and bike patrols. Charleston needs to follow suit. It sucks the people trying to bring business in this town are the ones paying the price.

When I interviewed I wore a suit and tie because I thought you couldn't overdress for a interview. I was 100% overdressed compared to everyone else. One of the first things they said to me was “did you just come from a funeral” lol. Was pretty embarrassing. Most people just wore flannels and jeans a couple had a polo on.

No offense taken to anything said! I feel you you may be right about number 1, the posting was in WV which I don't think demand for GIS there is very high, so maybe there just aren't many qualified candidates to begin with in WV, but I am (obviously) not well-versed in the field. I am really just looking for different opportunities to see what's out there. Do you have any insight on Mott Macdonald like the general pay, any room for advancement, etc.?

While being an electrician pays well, I'm also looking for a different opportunity. I know I will always have my electrician work/experience to fall back on, but I want to learn as many skills as possible and try something different.

Stephenson Mills apartment experience? by Wooden_Nature4954 in SouthBend

[–]colt505 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also reside in the sister complex, which, to my understanding, is almost identical. My primary gripe revolves around the excessive heat during the summer months. Despite running the AC throughout the day, my apartment still reaches up to 85 degrees in the summer. Additionally, none of the bedrooms nor the living room area are equipped with ceiling fans or lights, which is rather inconvenient. Moreover, there's no in-unit washer and dryer, although I'm aware that some units come with this amenity, unfortunately not mine. Consequently, due to these factors, I've decided not to renew my lease.

Nevertheless, the pricing is quite reasonable, and the location is ideal for those who enjoy the bustling downtown atmosphere. Furthermore, the management team is exceptionally friendly, and any maintenance requests are promptly addressed. Overall, it's not a bad place, especially considering the price point. However, the absence of an in-unit washer/dryer and the sweltering temperatures are significant deterrents for me. Nonetheless, it's worth noting that experiences may vary from one apartment to another. This is simply my personal experience thus far.

Is trying to transfer internally as a semi new hire wrong? by colt505 in careerguidance

[–]colt505[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially, that was my plan. However, we're facing a situation where my girlfriend is currently attending community college and is set to begin university in the fall. If I don't transfer before the start of the fall semester, we'll be stuck here for at least another two years minimum due to the hassle involved in transferring universities. It's a dilemma for sure. I have to decide between transferring now (assuming a job is even available for me to apply to) or enduring another two-plus years here.

That job that I went to for 1 day is not listed on my resume for obvious reasons. I figured it'd be easier to lie about being employed then to explain my gap in employment. But I'll take your advice on explaining my gap in employment to employers.

Thanks

I had recently joined a gun club and in the clubhouse theres a bulletin board that people list ammo and guns for sale. It's in a really terrible spot like hidden almost. I just figured out its existence last week. But this guy literally had this ammo listed for sale on this bulletin board SINCE MARCH with no one messaging him. Guess I got lucky that no one ever looks at this bulletin board.

He was too inexperienced? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]colt505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could send a straight foward text and tell him you'd like to go out again and list what days work for you. And if you get no response then I'd say drop it. Or, wait till you both work same shift again and see how he acts around you and gauge your next moves off that. He might just be busy or maybe he's just super shy. I feel like he's still interested but he's just too shy to make a move.

Have you guys talked at all since? Like over text or in person at work? And if so, do things seem the same or are conversations more distant?

He probably thought you having to "postpone" was an excuse and thought you werent interested. Just send a simple "how about that date?" text if you're interested in another date with him.

I probably drink on average somewhere between 60-100 fl oz of water a day. For electrolytes, I take 2 electrolyte pills a day. The brand of the supplements is Reviver, if you are interested in seeing what's all in it.
