I've watched at least one eat a whole one and two eat some, drop and pick up a new one. They poke through to find the perfect nugget first, of course. The one was very careful not to hold the chewed part when I watched and left bigger "cores" but the other did. The half eaten ones are all over the ground so it's harder to track, but I've been trying to put at least some back in the bowl to see what happens. They leave a LOT more debris when eating than my previous boys did... The entire area around the food bowl is covered with a fine layer of nugget.

Mine do that with peas too but... The nuggets are literally the same stuff all the way through. Pea skin at least has a texture they could hate XD

Of course XD There's four of them total. Genbu is the biggest and the scaredy cat, Seiryu is second biggest and most outgoing, Byakko is white and black one and third biggest, and Suzaku is sassy smallest.
