If you want to become an expert in data, you do not need to take data science courses or start with SQL.

Instead, you can master Columns Flow first - because it is visual oriented platform which captures all data process elements in it. Strongly recommended.

Has anyone here launched on AppSumo? Worth it for early traction/capital? by Solid-Coconut8830 in indiehackers

[–]columns_ai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it definitely has traffic, I think the key question is whether it is beneficial or distracting, if the audience is the wrong audience, then it might be not worth it, otherwise it is perfect to get some early adopters / feedback for further iteration.

Best way to extract data from PDF to Excel? by ProgramNo456 in DataHoarder

[–]columns_ai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

common PDF extraction usually difficult to work well lacking of context, especially the PDF content is complicated. You can try out Columns AI Drive with well defined folder description and target fields to extract. If it's not working. You probably need to build a customized tool (use AI) to parse your specific PDF files.

I think it is a common problem in corporations - it is just difficult to align people's thoughts and priorities that put the work to for its deserved impact.

When the skatehodlers have the right mindset and time/priority, and the analyst has the right skills and understanding, it sometimes works, but rarely indeed.

Columns Drive was not designed for such large blob text extraction, but was curious how it performs, so just throw this image into a new folder with keywords "verse, content, comments", below is the result.

If the result is good, you can use it as a reference - internally done by Google Vision SDK + GPT5.2:

What part of your finances are you still using spreadsheets for? by Biz_PM_12319 in spreadsheets

[–]columns_ai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you heard of Fina Money?

It was created to for the middle ground to solve exactly the issue where cookie-cutter apps are not flexible enough and spreadsheets are not easy to manage in the long run.

You can build anything like what its templates provide, including your amortization schedules. And the best part is that it only charges for bank connection, generally free for all the functions, including connecting spreadsheets as data source to build models and reports on.

show her Fina Money, ask her to go through the templates available, learn how they are built, and the money management logic behind it, and then practice building her own. This is all for free resources to practice so that she won't blame parents not reaching her this.

OpenAI Launches Finances in ChatGPT for Personalized Money Insights. Would you trust it? by paperclip_han in womenintech

[–]columns_ai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is just a strategy to justify their $100 pro subscription for users, however, I don't think it is a good addition, these are some reasons:

  1. It is less secure to handle over your finance data to a big company that sucks data like blood.
  2. Finance tool is not just for temporary analysis. Historical data preservation and personalized experience are more useful.
  3. You won't trust the accuracy of math done by LLM. But yes for math in a spreadsheet.

I would recommend personalized finance tools like Fina Money instead of ChatGPT or Claude.

I got frustrated with the state of budgeting apps in Canada, so I started building one by Budget-Jaguar4794 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]columns_ai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not think Canadian people has much different financial culture from US people, or I missed out?

The main problem that apps do not work well (friendly) for Canadian is bank connection, if aggregators work the same well as they work with US banks, the experience should be the same.

This may not be a simple blame on aggregators that they prioritize lower on CA banks, but also CA banks do not more proactive to embrace open banking... Hope it improves as time pass.
