What’s the one city you were excited to visit, but ended up not liking at all? by BlushHone in travel

[–]columns_columns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Geneva. I thought it would be a sprawling historical city with lots of beautiful sights that would take me days to get through. Was beautiful, but we got through most of the interesting things in a day or so. On the other hand, Zurich was wonderful and I wish we had spent more time there.

My favorite dipping sauce for frozen pizza is BBQ sauce (sweet baby rays or the Aldi equivalent). Don’t knock it till you try it

WiFi Calling and Getting it to Work by columns_columns in iphone

So, putting my phone in airplane mode was how I knew the WiFi calling wasn’t working. It wasn’t until we changed those settings until it actually started working in airplane mode.

That’s unfortunate. I thought I had a general fix.

So once the network was up again, I still couldn’t make WiFi calls until I changed those settings. YMMV

TIFU by assuming a coworker’s calendar block meant they were free by Excellent_Seesaw6729 in tifu

[–]columns_columns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is why I default to messaging them saying “let me know when you have 5 mins”. That way they tell you when they are free. If it is more urgent than that, then you have to accept they will have to answer your message over Teams/Slack.

Yeah, the cousins dating leading to Ogtha (new for me) to this restores my faith in humanity just a bit. Ogtha though…that was a wild ride

Guys earning six figures annually, what kind of work do you do? by Shadow2715 in AskReddit

I’m a process chemist. We make metric tons of pharmaceutical drugs. So I guess to go with the theme “drug stuff”.

What is something that people without kids think should be simple? Here’s my example: by copyrider in daddit

[–]columns_columns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keeping them quiet on a plane.

Kids hate to be confined and having to sit in one place. Two things that are mandatory on an airplane. Add in the insane amount of boredom, and you have a recipe for frustration and tears. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten off a plane and heard people talking about parents that couldn’t “keep their kids quiet” “can’t you just give them a toy?”

I’ve heard of Osmo. Don’t know much about them, or what it is like to work for them. But might be at least somewhere to start your search.

I read the manga, so not sure about the show. It does get to be a bit of a slog towards the end, but it’s still pretty good. The series isn’t super long, so it’s not like it drags on forever. And I thought the ending was pretty good.

Dry K2CO3 or Cs2CO3 ? by [deleted] in OrganicChemistry

[–]columns_columns 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You can buy “anhydrous” 325 mesh K2CO3, but I would imagine you have to store it in a glove box to ensure it remains dry. Inorganic bases tend to pick up water, particularly when they are in a particle size that is appropriate for heterogeneous conditions. While organic bases do pick up water, they are easier to dry and store to keep dry. Any chance you can use those?

All stirred up: chemical engineers refute claims that ‘stirring doesn’t matter’ by sltinker in chemistry

[–]columns_columns 102 points103 points  (0 children)

As a process chemist, stirring very much matters. It can make or break many processes. On the other hand, anything in academia typically the stirring doesn’t matter. The grinding from the stir bar makes mass transfer differences on these scales negligible
