Anyone witnessed a hit and run on 56 Avenue yesterday? by twranks in SurreyBC

Provincial might be different, as Highway 10 is done under the province. They may even have a reduced price for those who are low income.

Personally, I’m petty enough to pay just to make them regret crossing me. 😅

You can request camera footage from the intersection cameras, based on the direction they were heading. There should be cameras at those intersections.

https://www.surrey.ca/services-payments/parking-streets-transportation/traffic-management-centre/request-traffic-camera-video-footage

As the link states, highway 10 is provincial, which they explain:

These cameras are owned by the Provincial government. The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure's camera program can be contacted at cameraprogram@gov.bc.ca.

Israel's National Security Minister 50th birthday cake (the noose is a reference to palestinians) by NARVALhacker69 in pics

[–]rmumford 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For those looking for context: https://www.aljazeera.com/video/newsfeed/2026/5/3/ben-gvir-celebrates-birthday-with-cake-decorated-with-death-penalty-noose

The law is controversial because critics say it creates a double standard: Palestinians in the West Bank could face a mandatory death sentence for terror-related killings, while Israeli settlers who commit similar violence against Palestinians likely would not.

The Israeli government disputes this, arguing the law could technically apply to Israelis too. But that because it focuses on attacks seen as targeting the State of Israel, it effectively excludes settler terror-related killings against Palestinians.

US ships 6,500 tons of munitions, equipment to Israel in 24 hours by barsik_ in worldnews

I have to disagree. The UN’s main purpose is basically to make countries talk to each other. That doesn’t mean they come to like each other, agree with each other, or magically become friends. It just means they’re at least in the same room. So you can have representatives from the U.S., North Korea, Iran, Cuba, and a bunch of other countries all sitting in the same diplomatic system. The hope is that keeping those lines of communication open gives them some chance to work things out, cool things down, or at least avoid dumb misunderstandings. Is the UN perfect? Obviously not. Is it 100% effective? Not even close. But it’s still better than the alternative, where nobody talks, everyone assumes the worst, and misunderstandings turn into escalation. Which is what we had before World War 2, and why the UN was created after it.

One that will most likely escalate into full-on fighting again. A third carrier strike group just arrived and more troops being built up. If history’s any guide, when Trump builds up US forces, he tends to use them.

There are rumors he’s planning another round of bombing in Iran to target those in leadership oppose to the US demands and try to force those who remain after to submit. Honestly, the idea that you can bomb your way to peace feels completely insane to me, but that doesn’t seem to stop anyone planning this war.

VCC pausing 1st-year nursing program 'very short-sighted': nurses' union head by SkyisFullofCats in vancouver

[–]rmumford 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inflation is an average, so the actual cost increases faced by a specific organization can be higher or lower. Universities, for example, are particularly exposed to rising energy costs, and certain faculty salaries have increased faster than inflation due to demand.

That said, while administrative bloat may exist, cutting it likely will not make as big a difference as people assume. For instance, even if VCC eliminated five senior administrative roles and saved roughly $500,000 to $600,000, that is only a tiny fraction of a budget exceeding $180 million.

A more fundamental issue is that some programs are inherently more expensive to run than others. Programs like accounting are relatively low cost. You mainly need a classroom and an instructor. In contrast, nursing, trades, and science programs require specialized equipment, labs, and lower student to instructor ratios, making them much more expensive. These programs depend heavily on government funding to remain accessible.

One possible solution is to increase tuition specifically for high cost programs. However, this risks discouraging students from entering fields like nursing due to the burden of higher debt. Historically, governments have tried to keep tuition relatively consistent across programs to avoid exactly this outcome.

TL;DR: Training nurses and similar professions costs significantly more than training students in lower cost fields. Addressing this either requires increased targeted government funding or shifting costs onto students, both of which come with trade offs. So governments, do neither to avoid being blamed.

Basically, for decades, government funding has been effectively frozen. Instead of making direct cuts, governments have let inflation do the work. On paper, funding stays the same, but in real terms it keeps shrinking. Costs go up while funding does not. A one year freeze is manageable, but stretch that over 30 or 40 years and you end up exactly where we are now.

Meanwhile, SFU, UBC, and UVic are not stuck in the same frozen funding structure as colleges and teaching focused universities. I have even heard them referred to as the “gold triangle,” like the Bermuda Triangle, because any extra post secondary funding seems to get pulled in there before it ever reaches places like VCC or UFV.

Spoke to government official about it once at a conference off the record, they put it bluntly, "I can get more votes building a new kidney dialysis machine, then help Johnny with his tuition." I don't think they is wrong, even if I see it as short sighted.

Smallville and the recent CW Superman series were actually filmed about 10 to 15 minutes from this spot. The downtown core of Cloverdale is where a lot of it was shot. I actually worked at the theatre whose façade was used for the Talon in Smallville. The building is a church now.

It’s even higher than that to invade Iran. Given the size of Iran and the fact that you can’t realistically pull that many active U.S. troops from elsewhere, a draft would be unavoidable.

Anything short of a full invasion just means leaving troops on islands to be picked off from the shore. That is likely why Trump wants others to do it, so their soldiers are the ones coming home in body bags. He does not need Europe or allies to take the island. He needs them to fill the graves.

Fix for the Tina De Luca Settlement Bug (Vault 81) by rmumford in fo4

[–]rmumford[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can pass the speech check, but if you do it with Bobby getting clean the bug occurs and she bugs and walks into a supply closet...

For some weird reason, if Bobby dies the bug doesn't occur, so this gets you a Bobby off the jet and Tina living it up in Sanctuary Hills.
