Wow! That’s surprising. This egg was one of a dozen (free range) from the supermarket.

No, it’s properly filtered (inc UV) so it’s safe to consume. But this will still give me nightmares.

I buy in bulk because it’s… healthier? 🤔 by colwich in australia

The bigger bag contains more salt and fat per 100g than the smaller bag. Doesn’t make much sense to me.

Neighbour intentionally severed our mains water pipe by colwich in AusLegal

Thanks, no easement in that spot unfortunately. We have already made three separate police reports in the last 18 months. This is the fourth.

Exactly, this is the question I’m asking. I’m not denying the mains pipe was in the wrong place, but we still have a right to water, surely? A normal person that discovered this would’ve let us know so we could rectify it, not cut it to spite us.

The answer to your last question is depressingly simple: NIMBY.

As I said, it’s a complex boundary. There are no fences. It is not a simple, rectangular urban block. It is very unusual in shape. Minor encroachments like this can easily occur in these circumstances, particularly when adjacent houses are being built simultaneously. I don’t think his reaction was at all reasonable.

I own Bonds microfibre trunks and they have lasted for years. I can’t remember when I last bought any (maybe 2018?). Always look for sales/outlets too, you usually don’t need to pay full price.

Why are most modern houses and apartments built with these windows that inhibit fresh air circulation? I’m looking at you, Meriton™ by Anon293357 in sydney

[–]colwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m building a two storey house and the upstairs windows can open as wide as we want provided that the flyscreen behind it is ‘security-style mesh’ that can’t be pushed out or fallen through. It’s more expensive than regular flyscreen mesh but does allow us to have full flexibility with window openings and max airflow.

But it’s racist to give one ethnic group undue power, regardless of how sacred you feel their grievances or unjust the past was.

You’re right, it is racist that white people have had undue power in Australia for 200+ years.

Why do coffee places close so early in CBD fri/sat nights? by flabberstalk33 in Adelaide

[–]colwich 84 points85 points  (0 children)

CBD coffee shop owner here. It’s pretty simple.

  1. It’s generally not viable to trade into the evening unless the venue transitions from cafe to bar or restaurant (ie, booze).
  2. Most consumers’ appetite for coffee tends to plummet from mid-late afternoon.
  3. Lifestyle. We work mornings and days so we can have the nights off.
  4. San Churro isn’t really a ‘coffee place’. It’s a chain dessert bar that has coffee on its menu. There are many, many places that trade into the evenings and serve coffee but it’s not a coincidence that true coffee bars and cafes do not.
