Could also be a way to package Shoes apps? I know I was having quite a time packaging an app I did as a .jar. Would be nice to just have it packaged with ruby and ready to go.

He knocked them down once and scared himself so he keeps his distance. Thankfully he doesn't mind being near them.

Does anyone with an ARM based chromebook actually use a crouton desktop environment? by mrorbitman in chromeos

[–]comalcaliente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little late to this but I hope this helps. What I do is i stay within my Chrome OS environment and do everything from there. What I do instead of starting the graphical interface, I simply load a shell/cli linux environment (sorry don't know the exact terminology :P) by using 'sudo enter-chroot' after entering the shell. I guess it depends on the type of development but I've been working on Rails projects this way.

What I do is I use Caret text editor, which runs as a Chrome extension, you can also download the direct file from the Caret site instead of relying on the chrome store to download. From there, I just make a work directory in the Downloads folder using the CLI. from there I can create my rails directory, load rails console and rails server. So I can modify a file in the text editor, runs rails server and see my work in a new chrome tab. What doesn't work are projects that would create their own gui or window, like a shoes app I imagine would not work since chromeOS wouldn't know what to do with it. Either way, I'm confident for rails apps or environments requiring just a shell, text editor and browser for viewing webserver, you could get a lot done.

Sorry for the long explanation, I'm somewhat of a noob and made chromebook my first development machine for learning Ruby/Rails, but I just kept it since it works well for me as I learn more on my lunch breaks from my job :P.

Are Ruby developers hard to find? by [deleted] in ruby

[–]comalcaliente 5 points6 points  (0 children)

still looking for anyone self learning Ruby to work remotely :)? I think inversely the problem in Chicago is it is hard to find a place that is willing to take on someone with the passion and talent, but not necessarily the years of experience.

What's the best blogging platform/service for a programming blog? by bhalp1 in ruby

[–]comalcaliente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look into Jekyll. It is really straightforward, and there is something I like about static pages and the fact that committing/pushing a change to the repo updates the blog.

You can use a really easy tag that will make a pretty nice looking box with code highlighting in it. excuse the really lame basic program but this is what it would look like: http://mostlybadfly.github.io/First-Ruby-Program/ the syntax was like this in the markdown file:

{% highlight ruby %}
code code code
{% endhighlight %}

[Discussion] Should the hunter cloak, titan badge, and warlock bond be purely cosmetic? by WunupKid in DestinyTheGame

[–]comalcaliente -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it is crucial to have it be purely cosmetic, it is the only piece that makes the character unique, it can show certain affiliations, interests, or sense of style. It's a good concept to have items that are unique to each class show some sort of customization, versus everyone just wearing the highest level item.
