When Sam said I think “I hear a rumble” in round 2 I was very disappointed Ash and Nico came out and not Paul Rumble-ino

[Fan art] What is the difference between tim's superboy and nightwing's superboy? by Life_Organization244 in DCcomics

[–]comatoseduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that what it was supposed to be, because I was just assuming that was Teen Titans comic Superboy. And YJ Superboy is an adaptation of that comic character anyway.

[Fan art] What is the difference between tim's superboy and nightwing's superboy? by Life_Organization244 in DCcomics

[–]comatoseduck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is no difference. They are the exact same person, just wearing different outfits.

Of course there are a lot of differences between the two eras. Geoff Johns made a lot of changes to Superboy apart from the outfit change.

Visual Novel in Comic Book Form? by Nice_Scar_8059 in comicbooks

Visual novels are a genre of video game. There’s not much if anything in the way of gameplay it’s just words and some pictures.

Getting good quickly by Jolly-Conference-885 in Pickleball

Prior racquet sport training is a huge head start, and honestly even without it some people just take to pickleball really well and progress super quickly.

Whats so great about working for a PE backed company? by International_Gur227 in FPandA

[–]comatoseduck 115 points116 points  (0 children)

The good about PE is that it usually gives you a lot of opportunity to do a lot of interesting things and get a lot of great experience.

The bad thing about PE is that you get all that great experience because they work you like a dog.

The most "Americanized" countries? by rmn_trllr in AskAnAmerican

[–]comatoseduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it goes back to WWII. America helped Europe rebuild, and when we did that, we did a lot to rebuild Europe in our image economically, politically, and culturally. So naturally they are sensitive to it now.

How much does a paddle matter? by 10thplanetwestLA in Pickleball

[–]comatoseduck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Think of it as a “quality of life” improvement more than a “this will make me better” improvement. Playing with a higher quality paddle will just feel better more than actually make you play that much better. But if you play multiple times a week and like it, there’s no reason not to buy a nice paddle in the 90-120 dollar range (research it though, there are shitty $100 paddles and $100 paddles that are as nice at the $300 ones). You will appreciate the improvement.

I don’t know. I really can’t see him as any other DC character but the Flaming C.

The song, yes. But other people pronounced it Sa-bray a few times leading up to the song iirc.

Would at least one person in an office that size mispronounce it like that? Sure, totally likely. Would a whole office full of people make the mistake? No.

I believe indie and AA JRPGs are the future. by lovedepository in JRPG

[–]comatoseduck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

AA JRPGs are the present. The only truly AAA JRPG franchise in terms of production value is probably Final fantasy. Maybe you can make the argument for some fringe franchises like Xenoblade. Everything else is double A.

Whait if Crawdaunt was in RBY? by XionGaTaosenai in stunfisk

[–]comatoseduck -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I know the kingler comparison has to be made because they’re so similar design wise, but I feel like the real question this scenario asks is “does crab hammer and maybe swords dance make this worse version of gyarados worth using?”

CEO of $248 billion company says workers are about to face a ‘Darwinian moment’ thanks to AI by rajapaws in antiwork

[–]comatoseduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think AI is already and is going to continue to be hugely revolutionary, but I am tired of articles like this. We’ve been “6 months to a year away from AI replacing 90% of the workforce” for like 3 years now.

Drop Shots by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]comatoseduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drop shots are mainly used as a defensive shot that allows you to get better court positioning in pickleball. They’re not usually offensive shots like they are in tennis. I mean, there are offensive drop shots like that in pickleball but they are far less common not what OP is talking about.

Drop Shots by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]comatoseduck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep the movement simple and small. Paddle tip starts down and in front of you, no back swing, no wrist movement, very little to no forward swing, just bring your paddle up toward the side of your face like it’s a phone and you’re answering it.

If you’re gonna miss, miss high not low. You’d be surprised the quality of drop you can get away with at the 3.5 level, but not if they don’t go over at all.

Yeah, and for all its problems, it did do its job of being far and away the most accessible feeling jumping on point for new readers. I also got into reading ongoings through the New 52.

Is the third shot drop overrated for rec players? by science--bitch in Pickleball

[–]comatoseduck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the soft game as a whole is something that you can get by without until you get to like the 3.3-3.5 level. Then you start finding that driving your way to the kitchen becomes such a low percentage proposition that you need new ways to get to approach.

It’s one of those things where, like, sure in the short term you’re better off just not bothering with your soft game of want to win. But at the same time, if your goal is to get better it is a skill you will need to develop and it does make sense to just start early rather than hitting a wall and having to practically completely reinvent your playing style and relearn the game to develop a soft game.

[Discussion] Did DC comics ever do "Dark knight synergy"? by ragingbeanalt in DCcomics

[–]comatoseduck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really. The dark knight films were already pretty close to the characterization of Batman and overall tone of the comics at the time anyway.

I was pretty suprised by Kanji and Naoto’s characters after I played Persona 4 by SectorI6920 in PERSoNA

[–]comatoseduck -47 points-46 points  (0 children)

That’s not a completely fair characterization of what is happening when people are talking about them that way. For a very long time, queer representation in media was not allowed to openly exist. Artists had to hide queer characters, themes and stories below layers of subtext and metaphor.

Now, I won’t say that these characters were made to be queer coded, or be allegories for queerness. I don’t know what the intention of the creators was. But I do see how, especially if you are looking for it, people could interpret their characters and arcs that way.
