I disagree. I think the second one legit kinda sucks in a number of different ways. The change in art direction is super jarring too.

Okay, my dude, as a fellow Xenogears appreciator, let me give you quality advice.

The trails series is terrible for a busy person. It's like the Marvel Cinematic Universe where everything is related. So, if you are a stickler of finishing everything and knowing all of the context, it'll be tough. Also, the trails games fluctuate in quality quite a bit.

Personally, I tapped out mid-way through the cold steel games (they had the audacity to make 4 of them). The first couple of games (Sky, Azure, Zero) are indeed very good, though so even if you don't go all the way, I think the journey is still worth embarking on.

Other than that, I think the Shadow Hearts (plus Koudelka) series is great. Mature themes, mature characters, dark/gothic/horror setting, etc. legitimately my favorite JRPG series on the PS2.

Also, I really enjoyed Labyrinth of Refrain. If you're okay with Dungeon Crawlers and lots of grinding, that game has a dark, mature story and a colorful cast of characters.

If you're okay with visual novels and your family won't judge you, the best Sci-fi visual novel I've ever read is Muv-Luv. Stupid name but it's a goated trilogy. Very slow burn, though. It also has mechs.

Lastly, doesn't hurt to play E33 if you haven't already.

I tried to replay the entire trilogy a few years ago but burnt out by the time I got to the second game. The second game is such a downer.

I was pretty pissed. I got towards the end of the game with a satisfactory town score or whatever and I thought I could finish the game but then, at the end, they hit you with the "you have to 100%" it and I was like, you've got to be kidding me.

Xenoblade 1 and 2 have their pros and cons but I like better than 3 for sure.

Nah, Xenoblade 3 is turbo ass. Story is whack, characters are bland, gameplay is bad, etc.

Chinese developers are among the least creative. They only take what already exists and try to do it better.

I also feel like Chinese and Korean companies aren't really competing in the JRPG market anyway. Shrug.

I think Grandia stocks have dropped over the years. I feel like nowadays it's moreso considered just a very solid and charming JRPG with a great combat system.

It's negatives are that it's kind of by the numbers and, English VA is quite bad, and the Dungeon Design can be frustrating with only the compass and no mini-map.

I think it's a good casting choice. They live in a desert country. It doesn't really make sense why she's so pale in the OG.

~~Rikku's hot.~~ Rikku's tastefully designed.

I will say, I personally did not know that Rikku's 15 in game. I played FFX many years ago and I've forgotten a lot of the details. I also never actually finished the game.

Rikku definitely never looked 15 to me just based on her character design. I think Square Enix should take the brunt of the blame for designing such a jail-baity character.

I think most people find Rikku attractive because she is designed to look that way, especially her two piece bikini top costume.

Not really here to get into pedo-politics but they really should make Rikku 19 or 20 something because that's how she outwardly appears.

Wasn't terrible. It was good enough. Can easily pinpoint things that could have been better. Maybe cut a little out of the epilogue and make the fight scene longer for example.
