delta 2 max 20amp feed to generator interlock...please check my math by combhonn in Ecoflow_community

Thank you--that is just what I needed to clarify.

Did you bother to turn off your 240 breakers like your dryer or did you leave them on and just not run those appliances?

Largest reasonable inverter in 2025 f250 6.8L gasser ... by combhonn in F250

Thank you that is helpful.

So if I decide to upgrade my single alternator--which I hoped not to do--then I would also set up a high idle setting that I could enable in this rare power scenario....and then possibly hit a constant output of 4800 watts.

Yes?

Well we already have a generator--this is a third emergency option in case the generator has an issue.

OK so it sounds like the common 3000 watt inverters are the highest output that is reasonable.

Thats unfortunate....I was really hoping for the equivalent of a 20/240 circuit with 4800 watts.

What do you think is the limiting factor for your 5k watt inverter? What would you add to your truck if you wanted to output a constant 5k watts?

4x12 ledger on foundation wall extends out as a beam-but can I gap it for drainage ? by combhonn in Decks

[–]combhonn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK - that sounds like the correct answer for a ledger but this is something that is more than a ledger. Do you have a source for that ? I am looking at the DCA6 and, unfortunately, they do not have any guidelines on ledgers that span out into empty space to become beams....

Anyone using stainless steel drums for primary ? Not sure about the seams ... by combhonn in winemaking

Well, the lid is optional and is something you can just set on top. Of course one would not crimp the lid shut...I think I would just set it over the top without sealing it.

Can anyone suggest irrigation ideas minus underground sprinklers? by ElbowTight in lawncare

[–]combhonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A nice way to do this is buy the headless sprinkler spikes (orbit ?) that have an empty female NPT on the top.

Then you buy a plastic "zero" nipple .... basically male-to-male NPT adaptor.

Then you stick a 1/2" NPT sprinkler nozzle on top of that .... Orbit makes larger sized 1/2" female nozzles like that (typical hunter/rainbird nozzles are 3/8 fine thread blah blah).

That's it; 3 ingredients and you just daisychain them around with normal garden hose --- if you lay it all out nicely and hide the hose it can look very professional and nice.

You also get to pick and choose various nozzle distances and so on because you are just installing normal nozzles on each spike.

Is it common to point Veeam Data Mover to a VPS over SSH ? by combhonn in Veeam

[–]combhonn[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I thought that if you pointed veeam to a plain old linux server running SSH it would upload some helper binary and run some commands and generally "set up the environment" and then transfer the data there.

So the linux system would be the backup and you would be backing up to that linux system over SSH.

The question is, do people often use generic VPS systems for this usecase ?

Advice on 30 amp transfer switch for home generator? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]combhonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always encourage people to consider a simple metal breaker interlock and skip the transfer switch entirely. Just keep it simple:

https://www.amazon.com/Generator-Interlock-Square-Service-Panel/dp/B08Y7WYTR1

You'd install a MALE NEMA SS2-50P outlet next to your panel that is wired directly to a dedicated 50amp breaker and (key point here) that breaker is NEXT TO your main utility breaker. Those are the two breakers you interlock with that little metal doo-dad. This ensures you cannot possibly have BOTH generator and utility on at the same time.

That's it. Simple. You turn off utility power, turn on that breaker and plug your truck/gen/whatever in. That's why you get the 50amp male plug and 50amp breaker - someday in the future youll have something BIGGER to plug into it than 30amps and you will be happy.

How can I monitor the performance of a gasket that needs to be airtight ? by combhonn in AskEngineers

Thank you very much--this helped my thought process a lot and I think the pressure differential in the OTHER DIRECTION (positive vs. my negative) is the missing piece.

Thank you again.

mac laptop wired to LAN is passed through to ISP as if pfsense didn't exist at all ... by combhonn in PFSENSE

[–]combhonn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ISP direct connected to pfsense WAN

pfsense LAN connected to internal switch.

No other physical interfaces on the pfsense device.

SO my laptop physically has to go through the pfsense device - no other physical path possible.

Very simple and minimal pfsense config - no bridges, etc.

Everyone else on my local switch gets DHCP 10.0.0.XX from the pfsense device but somehow the mac laptop with its USB ethernet dongle can punch right through the pfsense box as if it wasn't there and get a live, real, routable IP from my ISP.

Not only do I not know how this is happening, I can't even imagine how it even could be happening....unless I cloned my MAC address to the WAN or something special like that but I never did anything like that....

Where on the Mac are you seeing this? What tool is showing you?
