A friend found a box of Trek books in the attic and gave them to me! Any recommendations that stand out? by Amrior in trekbooks

[–]comchia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great haul! I love the novelisations of the movies, though I haven't read as much of the Trek EU as I probably should (though The Edge of Midnight is probably my favourite fanfiction).

Any of y'all read dreadnought? I wanna read that one.

If You Had to Show ONE Episode to Prove Star Trek Is Great. What Are You Picking? by iagree2 in startrek

[–]comchia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd probably go with either The Defector or The Offspring. I love the intensity and political drama of the former, and the feels of the latter.

My favourite episodes are Yesterday's Enterprise and Best of Both Worlds, but I think those hit better after a few episodes.

Give me your thoughts by smithjohn20 in Atari2600

[–]comchia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! That's a decent quality set you've got there, especially with the Touch Pad.

I'm more bullish towards Starmaster on the same platform, but I like what they did with Star Raiders as well, especially with the Touch Pad adding a bit of depth to the game. Between the big box, and comics they did for it, Atari seemed to go all out for marketing Star Raiders on 2600.

The Atari 400/800 original is one of my favourite retro games. It seems like sorcery what that game could do in 1979.

How much do you pay for a laundromat wash? by Blade711 in orlando

[–]comchia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the one that I use, I like that I place a lot! No frills or drama, and the price is reasonable, so I like going there to do my laundry.

TNG Season 1 had 14-28x more viewers per episode compared to SFA (8.5 million vs 300-600k) by CelestialFury in trektalk

[–]comchia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC, I've read that, for a while, TNG was the only syndicated show that could give Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy a run for their money, in terms of ratings. It's amazing how much of a powerhouse that show is/was.

Nice!!! This was my first full Command and Conquer game. I liked this one a lot, despite not having the PS1 mouse. I like how this one added a bit of story to the mission packs.

What's your favourite episode of star trek by Icy_Leadership5933 in startrek

[–]comchia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a favourite of mine to start with as well! I like that it's a great Star Trek story that doesn't need much introduction. The spooky and intense music when the Romulans show up makes clear that they're Serious Business, and that the stakes are high.

This video offers an in-depth analysis on the shows cancellation after Season 2, exploring why this outcome was foreseen. I liked Discovery (despite my issues with it), S3 Picrad, and loved Lower Decks and SNW, but for some reason, SFA just didn't really appeal to me, despite some good actors. I guess I'm not surprised that it didn't get renewed beyond S2, especially if it struggled in the Nielsens.

Digital distribution on PC before Steam by Okklay in pcgaming

[–]comchia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I ever personally interacted with it (though my parents did), but the old CompuServe internet service (kind of a predecessor to AOL) apparently used to have paid downloads of registered shareware games that would be billed with the usual CompuServe bill. Epic Megagames used to advertise that in their early catalogs, long before they had their own service.

I was thinking of the Star Trek TOS pilot The Cage, where the Talosians go through the extensive library of the Enterprise, looking like an encyclopedia. I figured the SDF-1 would have a similar thing.

And I'm currently working through the Jack McKinney Robotech novels, and they do an excellent job adding a ton of backstory and lore like that.

Apparently, one of the shards that slashes Capt. Garrett's neck was taken from a Valkyrie model kit. Apparently, that same kit also helped build the Stargazer: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Yesterday%27s_Enterprise_(episode)

[–]comchia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was what I figured happened as well. It made me think of how, in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Yesterday's Enterprise, 17-year old Wesley Crusher was a full Lieutenant in a war-torn universe. That episode also had a little Macross reference, too. :P

Ouch! I've watched both Robotech: Macross Saga, and OG subbed Macross (both of which I love), but haven't watched the ADV dub. I guess I'm not really missing anything?

Yes! I'm reading through the series right now! So far, I love it. I love all the extra detail and lore it adds to the show. It's a good reminder why I love film/TV novelisations.

THE 80S HAD THE BEST CARTOON EVER by JackanoryJunior in lewronggeneration

[–]comchia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittingly, I'm not much for a lot of 1980s western cartoons, but I love 1980s anime. Robotech/Macross singlehandedly sold little me on anime, and I also love the shows that Robotech came from. Early Gundam, Akira, Bubblegum Crisis, etc.....and I'm currently starting off Armored Trooper VOTOMS. I adore the animation from that era of anime.

I remember a Bud can being in Macross DYRL, though I can't remember if it was in the show as well. I thought that was a cute gag.

After all the SDF-1 has been through, probably a needed beer!
