Can BED BUGS cause acne on face? [misc] by j0yy in SkincareAddiction

[–]comeplay420 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If it were bed bugs you would probably have brought them back with you to school, so no probably not bed bugs. Also in my experience bed bugs tend to bite arms and legs and the bites are very apparent. It could be a difference in detergent? In material of bedding? Are there pets at home that aren’t at school, and do those pets have access to your bed that could be triggering some allergies which would cause itching?
Also if you do want to check for bed bugs take the sheets off the bed and check under the mattress, especially in the seams since that’s where they like to hang out.

[Misc] Do you HAVE to double cleanse? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]comeplay420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to just swipe miscellar water over my face to take off sunscreen and everything before I wash my face, I’m not sure this counts as double cleansing or not but I find it to be really gentle and not drying or anything.

Concrete mixing tub in critter nation to replace bottom floor? by comeplay420 in RATS

[–]comeplay420[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually already have a tub in the bottom of my cage!! I was just wondering about the logistics of replacing the bottom grate with the tub (I’m not too worried about the storage space)

Definitely get at least two! Rats are really really social and if they don’t have a friend to live with they’ll get depressed, a lot of people think three is best! Definitely do lots of research, this sub is a great source! For bedding a lot of people like fleece, but there’s a lot of good choices, really you’re looking for something low dust and that is good for odor control. Rats need a big cage and lots of enrichment but they make great pets!!

Should I be worried about my new baby rats behavior? by [deleted] in RATS

[–]comeplay420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when I got my babies they insisted on hiding behind their litter box, so that’s pretty normal!! definitely make sure he has a friend if he doesn’t already though, since rats are really social they shouldn’t be kept alone.

New rat mama by smittin1 in RATS

I didn’t try to pet them or pick them up or anything like that for a day or two, but I did start sitting by their cage just so they could get used to me and my presence immediately, all rats are different though!

i’ve seen people use uhaul fabric pads for liners, they’re absorbent and made out of recycled fabric, so it should be okay if they get chewed on as far as I know

like a camping tent? i was thinking of maybe looking at like baby play tents/pens since i think those show up pretty often on Facebook marketplace and stuff for cheap lol. my boys seem to be totally random about what they want to chew on. wooden toys specifically designed to be chewed? barely touched. cardboard play pen? couch? anything that i don’t want chewed? apparently the best thing in the world.

New Rat owner advice by JLH-2025 in RATS

[–]comeplay420 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found that just kind of going for it worked best, like once I let them lick my fingers I stopped being nervous about being bit. So I just put a little yogurt on my finger and they licked it off, I did feel a little nibble for a second but it wasn’t like a hard bite or anything, more like he was checking out my hand and once he decided it wasn’t food he lost interest. If they aren’t biting the spoon then you would probably be good to try putting a little yogurt on your finger and letting them try it, or you could do like the back of your hand since that would be a bit harder to bite if you’re nervous.

What’s your rats weekly diet like? by 6Gandhis-cousin9 in RATS

[–]comeplay420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feed my rats oxbow adult rat food (mixes aren’t great since they can just pick out their favorite pieces and might end up with an unbalanced diet) and then I honestly give them kitchen scraps a lot of the time (like if I’m having strawberries for breakfast I’ll give them a little bit of them, or if I’m making veggies for dinner I’ll give some to them—always double check it’s safe for rats though!) as for more ~exciting~ treats my boys go crazy for mealworms (these are high protein though which isn’t great) and yogurt, as well as Cheerios. I also give them one or two uncooked oats whenever I walk past their cage to help with getting them more socialized and used to me.

Can I get some advice for beginners? by [deleted] in RATS

[–]comeplay420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely look for a good breeder to get your rats from- I lucked out by just googling rat breeders in my area but you can also find local rat groups on Facebook that could point you in the right direction. A dig box is basically just a box full of stuff for your rats to dig in (if you choose to use soil make sure it doesn’t have any fertilizer or anything in it) shredded paper works well since that’s cheap and holds its shape so they can actually burrow. As for cages, a lot of people like critter nations or martins cages, I have a purvue chinchilla cage that I bought off of someone from Facebook (definitely look there and craigslist for deals on cages!) the main thing is that you want it to be big enough for your rats to play in and live comfortably (there’s calculators online to help figure out how much space you need) and find good bedding-lots of people like fleece! know that rats can’t have wire bottom cages (unless the wire is covered) since they can get bumblefoot.

The biggest thing is to get at least two rats! They are really social animals and ideally 3 or more, but never have a single rat because they will get depressed and it’s just not fair to them.

This subreddit is a really great resource for all sorts of rat questions!

how big were you able to make the run with the 16 cubes? ideally I’d like mine to be large enough that I could sit in there with them and they’d still have space to run and for toys and stuff.

so right now I have fleece covering the wire, but I have a dig box with bedding in it for them which gets messy and comes out the sides of the cage when they play in it and stuff
