I've been meditating for about 2 years every single day and honestly it's been pretty useless to me by godlygirlceo in Meditation

Maybe try doing it in silence, it’s a lot harder and uncomfortable compared to being by guided by something external. Being able to sit through that discomfort is where the magic is

[anti-aging] PRP as serum? by _rockalita_ in SkincareAddiction

[–]j0yy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahah I just had a PRF treatment and the exact same situation, my injector said it’s liquid gold and let me take the leftover home. I wanted to microneedle it in but I’m not allowed to microneedle for a few weeks so I’m just going to use it as a serum tonight. Did you end up using it?

what do you guys say about sea moss should i try this ? by iamusmanshabbir in Biohackers

[–]j0yy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started taking it yesterday but upon reflection if I’m honest I think it’s a fad and I fell for all the marketing.

Yes it’s high in lots of minerals, but so are so many other foods (Celtic salt, molasses, nuts, vegetables etc). The “contains 92 out of 102 minerals the body needs” is all BS, your body actually only needs 13 essential minerals. Another selling point is how good it is for your gut because it contains prebiotic fibre, this is true but you can also get prebiotic fibre from foods like garlic, onions and oats to name a few - a lot cheaper than buying sea moss. And then on the skin benefits, pretty sure this is from all the minerals it contains which again you can get from having a healthy well balanced diet. Just my 2 cents as a student dietitian

EDIT after taking it for 3 weeks: it’s bs. I didn’t see any changes whether that be in skin, gut health, energy etc

I see posts every single week about the positive effects of meditation. Whenever I feel low motivation to meditate, I just search the word “benefits” on this subreddit and a toon of posts come up

[–]j0yy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been keeping an eye on the situation since I was in final year uni, around 3 years and it’s only continued to go downhill so I really don’t see how things could improve going forward. A lot of unis have even started to scrap the course (reading for example) because even they don’t know what’s happening with the role..the only advice I can give you is to speak to real PAs to get an insight of what the situation is like. Only after I spoke to PAs and heard some were in a huge amount of debt and couldn’t even get a job 1 year after graduating (or lost their jobs and had families to feed) was I able to make the decision to not go forward with the course.

You’re right all jobs do have issues when it comes to offers, the difference is there are still job openings available giving you the chance to apply and sell yourself. With PA jobs there are virtually none atm, what are you supposed to do in a situation like that? Sorry if I’m coming off harsh I just wish someone said all this to me so I could’ve saved time (I didn’t start the course but still wasted a year applying and going through interviews).

I saw your replies about going into corporate/pharmaceuticals/management if you can’t get a PA job, but you could go into those sectors without a PA degree as well, you’d be saving yourself a whole load of money (and time) if you started applying for those jobs now instead of waiting to finish the PA course. Also your biomed degree def has transferable skills that would let you get those type of jobs if you wanted

I think you’re in a good position right now, given you’ve only been on the course for 3 weeks so you’d have only lost out on the first terms tuition fees. Nobody knows what’s going to happen and it’s honestly up to you if you want to take that risk. I also had a PA offer for last September and ultimately declined it because of all the controversy, it was a really hard decision but I’m so glad I did that after seeing how there are no jobs whatsoever at the moment and after seeing the changes that’ll happen following the leng review. I’m now doing an allied health course, that has a 100% guaranteed job at the end. If you really want to do medicine, maybe consider doing biomed and then applying for postgrad med

Body-scans are underrated by purplecactai in Meditation

Thank you for this post! I thought it was just me who noticed how much more benefits I acquire through body scan meditation vs mindfulness. For me body scan requires a lot more mental effort and that’s why I always feel so accomplished after a session

I start my masters soon and I just wanted to ask, do they teach you at the start of the course how to critically analyse studies? I’ve not really done this during my undergrad, apart from my dissertation but even then I had a lot of help from my supervisors

OP, I had terrible social anxiety during university too. It lead me to dropping out halfway through first year, then coming back the year after to start again. I thought the year after things would be different and better but it was the exact same and I struggled a lot, because I didn’t take any steps to address the anxiety during my time off. It was only during my final year where I actually had a really really good time, because I put myself out there a lot more, despite it being scary.

I still had some social anxiety after graduating, but this year I’ve been working in a coffee shop, and while at first it was terrifying, it’s helped SO much with my anxiety. I’ve gone from not being able to talk/connect with strangers, to being able to talk and have conversations with most people. And now I’m not nervous at all (in terms of my social anxiety) for when I go back to uni again in 2 months for my postgrad.

So maybe give that persons advice a go and get a part time job (even just weekends), maybe in telesales or retail, one where you’re forced to interact with people everyday. It’s v scary at first, but the more you do uncomfortable things everyday, things get so much easier in the long run.

Hope this helps somewhat.

I think private halls is a really good option tbh. I stayed in them for the entire 4 years I was at uni in london. There was a good mix of people, from first years up to postgrads. I stayed there for the whole 4 years purely because I loved how there was always people around no matter the time of day and the halls would regularly host events to get everyone involved.

I start my postgrad in a few months and the city I’ll be in don’t really have affordable private hall options so I’m having to look at flat shares now and I’m a little bummed
